Abstract

The invention relates to a mobile communications network having an Internet-Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). Once a SIP session has been established between two or more end points or users, communication can be carried out using a variety of different protocols, i.e. for streaming audio or video. A method of establishing a communication session between a first terminal 1 supporting a first plurality of communication types, and a second terminal 3 supporting a second plurality of communication types is disclosed. The method includes determining at least one type common to both terminals, enabling communication between said terminals by one of said common communication types, and allowing the communication type to be changed to another of said common types during the session.
