Abstract
A method for forming a crimped joint between opposing overlapping portions (6,7) of the tubular body member (1) and end caps (2) to be secured thereto, which method comprises applying folding forces to the overlapping portions so as to form the crimped joint, characterised in that the folding forces are applied by a plurality of formers located circumferentially around the terminal portion of the tubular body member and urged without significant rolling action against the overlapping portions (6,7). The joint may be used to join end faces to silencer tubular members in vehicles exhausts.
