Abstract

A mobile service request system, for example, a taxi requesting and booking system, is disclosed. A request is received from a user via mobile telecommunication apparatus (410) and is passed for attention to a service provider local to the location from which the request was made. This system removes from the user the need to know where best to direct their request. The service can be contacted from a wide geographical area through a single request point, such as a single specified telephone number or an Internet URL. A request is then sent (428) to one or more mobile service providers (such as taxi drivers) who are given the opportunity to accept the request (438). Once the request is accepted, the system allocates a mobile service provider to the request and informs the user and mobile service provider accordingly (442).
