Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of producing a presentation for transmission over a data network using streaming. The presentation comprises a relatively low bandwidth first clip followed by a relatively high bandwidth second clip. The method of producing the presentation comprises the steps of establishing a nominal maximum transmission bitrate, determining the bandwidth requirement of the first clip and allocating spare bandwidth between this and the nominal maximum bitrate for buffering of the second clip. The values of the spare bandwidth for the first clip, the duration of the first clip and the duration of the second clip are used to calculate an indication of the optimum number of bits into which the second clip can be encoded for streaming.
