Abstract

A method for managing a DJ's presence at multiple venues includes generating an avatar image corresponding to a DJ using a DJ console at a main venue on a ship and transmitting to from the DJ console, an audio stream produced by the DJ console to multiple other sites on the ship. The avatar can then be displayed on each of the other sites. In the end, the display can be animated in coordination with the movements of the DJ using the DJ console. Technical field of the invention

The present invention relates to the technical field of the coordination of the performance of a disc jockey (DJ) and more particularly the multi-room reception of audio and video of the performance of the DJ.

Technical background

The venerable DJ has been an integral part of the live social entertainment venue since the advent of recordable music. Traditionally, the DJ selects a playlist of music and sequentially plays each song in the playlist through a DJ console so that the music can be amplified through speakers located near the console. During the playback of the playlist, the DJ can engage in dialogue with the audience as well as dance with it as well. Like any other musical performance, the ability to experience a DJ's performance relies on bringing together the audience, the DJ and the DJ console on the same site.

Representing a DJ can often be non-professional in nature, a hobby of the performer. But in many cases, the DJ is a professional and therefore receives financial compensation from an employer or client, as the case may be. Like any other musical show, a good DJ can be expensive. For a single-site captive venue such as a nightclub or restaurant, a lot is expected. But for a larger venue such as a hotel and especially a cruise ship where many venues require entertainment, hiring multiple DJs can be very expensive. Of course, as is the case in a multi-room nightclub, it is still possible to simultaneously stream live video in one site in one venue to display screens in other sites in the same venue. But by doing so, apart from the hosts of the main site of the venue, the immersion in the DJ performance does not exist as the other hosts in the other rooms of the venue simply watch the performance on a TV screen.

Embodiments of the present invention address technical deficiencies in the art with respect to multi-room reception of audio and video of a DJ's performance. To this end, embodiments of the present invention provide a novel and non-obvious method for managing a DJ's presence at multiple locations. Embodiments of the present invention also provide a novel and non-obvious computing device suitable for performing the above method. Ultimately, embodiments of the present invention provide a novel and non-obvious data processing system incorporating the foregoing device to perform the foregoing method.

In one embodiment of the invention, a method for managing a DJ's presence at multiple locations includes generating an avatar image corresponding to a DJ using a DJ console at a primary location on a vessel, or optionally at a site external to the vessel, and transmission from the DJ console of an audio stream produced by the DJ console to multiple other sites on the vessel. The avatar can then be displayed on each of the other sites. In the end, the display can be animated in coordination with the movements of the DJ using the DJ console. In this way, regardless of an audience member's location in any of the venues, the audience member can experience the DJ's live performance as if the DJ were present in person at the audience member's location. .

In one aspect of the embodiment, the avatar image is holographically displayed at each of the other sites so as to provide a more realistic appearance of the avatar. In another aspect of the embodiment, the avatar image may be displayed on the main site near the DJ so as to create a contrast between the appearance and movement of the avatar and the appearance and movement of the DJ. In each case, in yet another aspect of the embodiment, an image of a face of a host at one of the other sites may be overlaid on an avatar face at that site so as to create a novelty experience hosts on this site.

Optionally, one or more of the other sites can be a guest cabin on the ship. In this case, at least one cabin light can be activated remotely in coordination with the audio stream. Therefore, even if the host remains in the privacy of his cabin, he can immerse himself in the performance of the DJ as if he were present in the main site with the DJ.

In another embodiment of the invention, a data processing system can be adapted to manage the presence of a DJ at multiple sites. The system includes a host computing platform that has one or more computers, each with memory and one or more processing units including one or more processing cores. The system also includes a module for managing the presence of a DJ on multiple sites. The module includes computer program instructions that are allowed, while being executed in the memory of at least one of the processing units of the host computer platform, to generate an avatar image corresponding to a DJ using a DJ console at a primary site on a ship and transmitting from the DJ console an audio stream produced by the DJ console to multiple other sites on the ship while displaying the avatar image at each of the other sites. The program instructions are further permitted to animate the displayed avatar image in coordination with movements of the DJ using the DJ console.

In yet another embodiment of the invention, a computing device includes a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium with program instructions stored therein. The instructions are executable by at least one processing core of a processing unit to cause the processing unit to perform a method for managing the presence of a DJ at multiple sites. The method includes generating an avatar image corresponding to a DJ using a DJ console at a main site on a ship and transmitting from the DJ console an audio stream produced by the DJ console to multiple other sites on the ship while also displaying the avatar image in each of the other sites. The method further includes animating the displayed avatar image in coordination with movements of the DJ using the DJ console.

In this way, the technical deficiencies of producing a DJ's multi-site performance are overcome due to the ability to simulate the DJ's live performance in each of the single venue's various locations without relegating the hosts to the different sites to watch the performance presented on a simple television screen.

Claims (18)

A method of managing the presence of a DJ on multiple sites comprising:
generating an avatar image corresponding to a DJ using a DJ console at a main site on a ship;
transmitting from the DJ console an audio stream produced by the DJ console to multiple other sites on the ship;
displaying the avatar image on each of the other sites; and
animating the displayed avatar image in coordination with movements of the DJ using the DJ console. A method according to claim 1, wherein the avatar image is holographically displayed at each of the other sites. A method according to claim 1, further comprising displaying the avatar image at the main site near the DJ. A method according to claim 1, further comprising overlaying an image of a face of a host at one of the other sites onto a face of the avatar at one of the other sites. A method according to claim 1, wherein one of the other sites is a guest cabin on the ship. A method according to claim 5, further comprising remotely activating at least one light fixture in the cabin in coordination with the audio stream. Data processing system suitable for managing the presence of a DJ on multiple sites, the system comprising:
a host computing platform comprising one or more computers, each with memory and one or more processing units including one or more processing cores; and,
a module for managing the presence of a DJ on multiple sites comprising computer program instructions authorized during execution in the memory of at least one of the processing units of the host computer platform to carry out:
generating an avatar image corresponding to a DJ using a DJ console at a main site on a ship;
transmitting from the DJ console an audio stream produced by the DJ console to multiple other sites on the ship;
displaying the avatar image on each of the other sites; and
animating the displayed avatar image in coordination with movements of the DJ using the DJ console. A system according to claim 7, wherein the avatar image is holographically displayed at each of the other sites. A system according to claim 7, further comprising displaying the avatar image at the main site near the DJ. The system of claim 7, further comprising overlaying an image of a face of a host at one of the other sites onto a face of the avatar at one of the other sites. A system according to claim 7, wherein one of the other sites is a guest cabin on the ship. A system according to claim 11, further comprising remotely activating at least one light fixture in the cabin in coordination with the audio stream. A computing device comprising a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having program instructions stored therein, the instructions being executable by at least one processing core of a processing unit to cause the processing unit to perform a method for managing a DJ's presence at multiple locations, the method including:
generating an avatar image corresponding to a DJ using a DJ console at a main site on a ship;
transmitting from the DJ console an audio stream produced by the DJ console to multiple other sites on the ship;
displaying the avatar image on each of the other sites; and
animating the displayed avatar image in coordination with movements of the DJ using the DJ console. A computing device according to claim 13, wherein the avatar image is holographically displayed at each of the other sites. A computing device according to claim 13, wherein the method further comprises displaying the avatar image at the main site near the DJ. A computing device according to claim 13, wherein the method further comprises overlaying an image of a face of a host at one of the other sites onto a face of the avatar at one of the other sites. A computing device according to claim 13, wherein one of the other sites is a guest cabin on the ship. A computing device according to claim 17, wherein the method further comprises remotely activating at least one light fixture in the cabin in coordination with the audio stream.
