The difficulty is that the buttons are different for each tab, and the screen reader only describes the buttons displayed.

Figures 2a, 2b show two examples of such an application interface in which we see four tabs at the bottom (film, VOD, radio, review), one of which is selected (the first Film tab for the figure 2a, the third Radio tab for figure 2b), the latter being associated with three / two buttons (rooms, outputs, archives for figure 2a, live, podcast for figure 2b) at the top of the screen.

If another tab is selected by the user, the buttons at the top are replaced by those of the new tab (eg rent, buy for VOD).

The user of a screen reader, very often visually impaired, must thus memorize all the menu items scattered on the screen and establish an overview in order to be able to navigate within an application.

In addition, besides navigation, the user currently cannot quickly know where they are and where they can go, unless there is an additional effort of exploration and memorization.

This truly destroys the desired ergonomics within a user journey.

A transition following a navigation action causes a change of current page, and it can thus be assumed that for a given current page there is a subset of said set formed of the pages to which a transition is possible.

The application of a navigation action consists in selecting, as a function of this navigation action, the new current page in this subset.

It will be understood that each page does not have a unique appearance (it can include areas that can change dynamically, for example a central area for scrolling and displaying content, buttons, etc.), but present at a minimum a predefined skeleton and so-called “selection” zones in a given state.

More precisely, the selection zones correspond to zones common to all the pages of the set which can take several states, and thanks to which navigation actions between pages can be applied.

In other words, modifying the state of a selection area causes a navigation action, i.e. the transition from one page to another, which has the effect of changing the current page as explained.

The selection areas can be varied in nature, in particular selection bars (displaying several alternative tabs) as in Figures 2a and 2b, but also wheels (selecting the area opens a pop-up allowing to choose between the possible states), scroll bars, a virtual keyboard, etc.

In this case, there is a plurality of selection areas, ie at least two (a first selection area and a second selection area will be designated for convenience), so that each page is associated with a unique combination of states of the selection areas, advantageously a combination of states of each of the selection areas.

The current page can be displayed by the graphical interface 13 of the virtual keyboard with a view to the application of navigation actions, but as will be seen below, the display functions of the graphical user interface 13 can optionally be deactivated for various purposes, without this changing anything in the present process.

In a conventional control mode, the user performs a navigation action on one of the selection zones, for example by touching (in the case of a touchscreen interface) a sub-zone or by moving a pointer therein ( mouse for example) corresponding to a possible choice.

As explained, the display functions of the graphical user interface 13 can be deactivated, this is called the “black screen” mode.

In the embodiment in which the graphical user interface 13 is a touch screen, the screen is quite simply inactive, the touch screen itself functioning normally.

In the embodiment in which the computer equipment 1 is a computer, the screen / monitor is turned off but the pointing device and the keyboard are working.

The black screen mode can either be the consequence of a security option in which the display is interrupted to avoid the eyes of third parties who are not visually impaired (we can also possibly provide that the reading mode screen activates cc black screen mode), or a simple desire to save battery.

Indeed, it changes absolutely nothing for a blind user.

In all cases, it will be understood that in such a black screen mode, only the execution of the display is not implemented, the processing implemented by the data processing module 11 (for example the selection of the current page) and the input remaining unchanged: although they are not visible, the selection zones are always "present" and navigation actions are always possible (in the same way that you can always click with mouse over an item without the screen on), although the lack of feedback makes it particularly difficult to use a classic command mode.

Screen reading mode

In a conventional control mode, the user navigates by making selections in the selection zones (for example by pressing certain sub-zones) corresponding to the transitions he wishes.

As explained in the introduction, this becomes tedious in a screen reading mode, in particular if the elements of a second secondary selection area change for each element of a first main selection area.

The present method cleverly proposes to present vocally all of the selection zones as a single block within which a plurality of navigation actions are available.

In other words, instead of having several types of navigation actions corresponding to the various selection areas (ie navigation actions by selecting a new state from the first area, plus actions different navigation by selection of a new state of the first zone, etc.), there is a single type of navigation action corresponding to a direct selection of a combination of states of all the selection zones.

For example, to go from "rooms" to "podcast", instead of changing the state of the first selection area from "Film" to "Radio" then the state of the second selection area from "Live" to "Podcast" (which is impossible to intuit for a visually impaired person), we go directly from the combination of states (Film.

For this, a list of possible combinations of states of said selection areas is defined.

According to a first embodiment, the list contains all the possible combinations of states of said selection zones, i.e. makes it possible to select any page of the set.

Such a list can be defined once and for all.
