L'invention concerne un procédé de contrôle de la vitesse d'un véhicule ferroviaire circulant sur une voie ferrée comprenant au moins une itération d'une phase (100), dite de contrôle, comprenant les étapes suivantes : - détermination (102) de la position dudit véhicule sur ladite voie ferrée, - identification (104) d'un point de transition de vitesse le plus proche, par comparaison de la position dudit véhicule à la position d'au moins un point d'échantillonnage préalablement mémorisé dans une base de données, - comparaison (106) d'une vitesse actuelle dudit véhicule à une vitesse à atteindre au niveau dudit point de transition ; - en fonction de ladite comparaison, commande (108) dudit véhicule pour atteindre ladite vitesse.
