Description
BENZOXAZINE HALOGÉNÉE UTILISABLE POUR LA SYNTHÈSE DE POLYBENZOXAZINE
Polym. Sci. 32 (2007), 1344-1391, ou « Recent Advancement on Polybenzoxazine - A newly Developed High Performance Thermoset », Y. Yaggi et al., J. Polym. Sci. Part A: Polym. Chem.
Xi et X2, identiques ou différents, représentent O (oxygène ; cas d’un monomère diol) ou S (soufre ; cas d’un monomère thiol) ;
Ari et Ar2 représentent chacun un noyau benzénique non substitué ;
HALOGENATED BENZOXAZINE USEFUL FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF POLYBENZOXAZINE
1. DOMAIN OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to the monomers used for the synthesis of thermosetting resins, intended in particular for adhesive systems in particular for bonding metal to rubber.
It is more particularly relating to benzoxazine compounds capable of synthesizing polybenzoxazines used in particular as adhesive layers in metal / rubber composites intended for the manufacture of rubber articles such as tires, pneumatic or non-pneumatic, for vehicles.
2, STATE OF THE ART
Metal / rubber composites, especially for vehicle tires, are well known. They are most often made of a generally diene rubber matrix, crosslinkable with sulfur, comprising reinforcing elements (or "reinforcements") metal such as son, film or carbon steel cables.
Subject to very significant constraints during the rolling of the bandages, in particular to repeated compressions, flexions or curvature variations, these composites must in a known manner satisfy a large number of technical criteria, sometimes contradictory, such as uniformity, flexibility, endurance in flexion and compression, tensile, wear and corrosion resistance, and maintain these performances at a very high level as long as possible.
It is easy to understand that the adhesive interphase between rubber and reinforcements plays a preponderant role in the durability of these performances. The traditional method of bonding the rubber compositions to carbon steel is to coat the surface of the steel with brass (copper-zinc alloy), the bond between the steel and the rubber matrix being provided by sulfurization brass when vulcanizing or baking rubber. To improve adhesion, organic rubber or metal complexes such as cobalt salts, as adhesion promoting additives, are generally also used in these rubber compositions.
However, it is known that the adhesion between the carbon steel and the rubber matrix is likely to weaken over time, due to the progressive evolution of the sulphides formed under the effect of the various stresses encountered, in particular mechanical and / or thermal, the above degradation process can be accelerated in the presence of moisture. On the other hand, the use of cobalt salts makes the rubber compositions more susceptible to oxidation and aging, and significantly increases the cost, besides the fact that it is desirable to eventually eliminate the use of such compounds. Cobalt salts in rubber compositions, due to the recent evolution of European regulations on this type of metal salts.
For all the reasons stated above, manufacturers of metal / rubber composites, particularly tire manufacturers, are looking for new adhesive solutions for bonding metal reinforcements to rubber compositions, while at the same time compensating for less in part, the aforementioned disadvantages. Thus, applications WO 2014/063963, WO 2014/063968, WO 2014/173838, WO 2014/173839 recently published, filed by the Applicants, have disclosed novel polymers containing urea, urethane or thiourea units, as well as their starting monomers, which meet the above objectives. Used in particular as adhesion primer on metal in metal / rubber composites, these polymers advantageously make it possible to bond the metal to the rubber matrices, using then simple textile glues such as "RFL" (resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex) glues. or other equivalent adhesive compositions, or directly (i.e., without use of such glues) to these rubber matrices when the latter contain, for example, suitable functionalized unsaturated elastomers such as epoxidized elastomers. Thus can be deleted in particular cobalt salts (or other metal salts) in the rubber compositions intended to be connected to brass-plated metal reinforcements.
Continuing their research, the applicants have found a new benzoxazine compound, usable as a monomer for the synthesis of a polybenzoxazine, thermosetting type, which at room temperature has the same adhesive performance, vis-à-vis the metal and rubber, that the aforementioned polymers but which has once thermoset (crosslinked) thermal and chemical stability further improved and whose specific microstructure, moreover, very advantageously allows to adjust the flexibility of the molecule according to the particular applications.
3, BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a halogenated benzoxazine having the formula (the symbol "Hal" representing halogen): (A) wherein:
each benzene ring carries at least one halogen; Z 1 represents an at least divalent, aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic linking group comprising at least one carbon atom and optionally at least one heteroatom chosen from O, S, N and P.
With this specific benzoxazine, it is possible to prepare benzoxazine polymers or "polybenzoxazines" which have the remarkable ability, at high temperature, to open their oxazine rings and thereby lead to a thermosetting polyphenolic resin structure. This gives them, compared with the other known polymers described in the introduction of the present invention, a better thermal stability, without visible phase transition at temperatures above 200 ° C. Its specific microstructure finally makes it possible, very advantageously, to adjust the flexibility of the polybenzoxazines according to the particular applications concerned. The invention also relates to the use of a compound according to the invention for the synthesis of a polybenzoxazine, as well as any polybenzoxazine derived from at least one benzoxazine compound according to the invention. The invention also relates to any method for synthesizing a polybenzoxazine by polycondensation of a compound according to the invention, especially with, as second monomer, an aromatic diol or thiol compound. 4, DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
It will be recalled first of all that benzoxazines are compounds of general formula:
The attached figure recalls the general principle of synthesis of a benzoxazine, here from (condensation reaction) of a molecule of phenol, two molecules of formaldehyde and an amine (R denoting the residue of the amine) , with elimination of two molecules of water.
Figure lb recalls the opening mechanism ("ring-opening") of the oxazine ring of such a compound during a thermal contribution (represented by the symbol Δ).
Many benzoxazine compounds or monomers can thus be synthesized using various phenols and amines depending on their types of substituents. These substituent groups can then provide polymerizable sites and allow the synthesis of various benzoxazine (or polybenzoxazines) polymers.
Benzoxazines and polybenzoxazines derived therefrom are products now well known to those skilled in the art; to mention just a few examples of publication, mention may be made of the articles "Polybenzoxazines - New high performance thermosetting resins: synthesis andproperties"; NN Ghosh et al., Prog. Polym. Sci. 32 (2007), 1344-1391, or "Recent Advancement on Polybenzoxazine - A Newly Developed High Performance Thermoset", Y. Yaggi et al., J. Polym. Sci. Part A: Polym. Chem. : Flight. 47 (2009), 5565-5576, as well as for example patents or patent applications US 5,543,516, WO 2013/148408.
As explained in detail in the above documents, polybenzoxazines have the remarkable capacity, at high temperature (for example, typically above 150 ° C or even 200 ° C depending on their particular microstructure), to open their oxazine and thus lead to structures of polyphenolic thermosetting resins.
The specific benzoxazine of the invention, called "Monomer M" in the present application, is of the halogenated type; it corresponds to the following generic formula (A), Hal representing one (at least one, that is to say one or more) halogen: (A)
The appended FIG. 2 gives the general synthesis scheme, under thermal contribution and with removal of water, from a halogenated phenol, p-formaldehyde and a diamine.
In the formula (A) above, Z \ represents a linking group (spacer or spacer) at least divalent, that is to say that it could comprise more than two covalent bonds, for example three or four covalent bonds. Preferably Z1 is divalent, i.e. contains only two covalent bonds. Z1 may be aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic. This group, which may be ethylenically saturated or unsaturated, comprises by definition at least one (that is to say one or more) carbon atom, and optionally at least one (that is to say one or more) heteroatom selected from O (oxygen), S (sulfur), N (nitrogen) and P (phosphorus).
According to one particular embodiment of the invention, Z 1 represents an aliphatic group comprising 1 to 20, more preferably 1 to 16, in particular 1 to 12 carbon atoms, or a cycloaliphatic group comprising 3 to 20, more preferably 3 to 20. at 16, in particular 3 to 12 carbon atoms. Even more preferably, Z 1 represents a C 1 -C 20, preferably C 1 -C 16, in particular C 1 -C 12, alkylene group.
Each benzene ring of the M monomer carries at least one (i.e. one or more) halogen. In addition, in this monomer of formula (A), one or more hydrogen atoms of at least one or of each benzene ring may be substituted (or not) by different substituents, for example by functional groups which may promote adhesion of the polymer to the metal and / or rubber.
Preferably, each benzene ring of the compound according to the invention carries a single halogen (Hal) or at most two, more preferably one and only one halogen, the latter being more preferably located in the para position of oxygen from the oxazine ring. According to a particularly preferred embodiment, Hal represents bromine, chlorine or fluorine, more preferably still bromine.
FIG. 3 illustrates a possible synthetic scheme, starting from a specific diamine of the aliphatic type (polyethylene diamine), of a particular halogenated benzoxazine according to the invention, of formula (Al), this benzoxazine being usable as a monomer (monomer noted M1) for the subsequent synthesis of a polybenzoxazine. It is noted that Z \ represents here a methylene group - (CH2) X- in which the symbol "x" represents an integer preferably varying from 1 to 20, more preferably from 1 to 16, in particular from 1 to 12. Such synthesis will be described in more detail in the following exemplary embodiments (Fig. 15).
According to another preferred embodiment, Z 1 represents an aromatic group comprising 6 to 30, more preferably 6 to 20 carbon atoms. Thus, FIG. 4 illustrates another possible synthesis scheme, this time from a specific diamine of the aromatic type (p-xylylenediamine), of another example of a particular halogenated benzoxazine according to the invention, of formula (A). -2), usable as a monomer (Monomer noted M-2) for the subsequent synthesis of another polybenzoxazine.
Figures 5, 6 and 7 illustrate three other possible synthetic schemes, always from halogenated phenol and paraformaldehyde on the one hand, and on the other hand different specific diamines, all of the aliphatic type, other examples of benzoxazines according to the invention, of respective formulas (A-3), (A-4) and (A-5), usable as monomers (Monomers respectively denoted M-3, M-4 and M-5) for the synthesis polybenzoxazines. In FIG. 5, the repetition of the [-CH 2 -CH 2 -O-] (polyethylene oxide) units on the Z 2 bonding group is likely to lead to polybenzoxazines of high crystallinity, whereas in FIG. methyl (polypropylene oxide) groups on Z1 makes it possible to reduce the reactivity of the two amine end groups and to give polybenzoxazines of lesser crystallinity. In FIG. 7, the presence on the spacer Z \ of the sulfur (heteroatom) atom in the repeating units [-CH2-CH2-S-] (polyethylene thioether), is likely to further improve the adhesion to the metal. polybenzoxazine. Thus, it can be seen that the structure of the Z 1 moiety of the benzoxazine monomer can be varied widely in order to modulate the properties of the final polymer. This constitutes a major advantage of the present invention.
FIG. 8 illustrates another possible synthetic scheme, starting from a halogenated phenol, paraformaldehyde and a specific aliphatic polyamine, this time consisting of a triamine, tris (3-aminopropyl) amine, of another example of a compound particular halogenated benzoxazine (tri) according to the invention, of formula (A-6), usable as monomer (Monomer noted M-6) for the synthesis of another polybenzoxazine.
The benzoxazine according to the invention of formula (A) described above is particularly intended (as monomer M) for the synthesis of a polybenzoxazine by polycondensation, in particular by polycondensation with at least one aromatic diol or thiol compound as a second monomer ("Monomer N") having the formula (B): (B)
in which
X1 and X2, which may be identical or different, represent O (oxygen, the case of a diol monomer) or S (sulfur, the case of a thiol monomer);
Ari and Ar2, identical or different, represent a phenylene group, substituted or unsubstituted; Z2 represents O or (S) n, the symbol "n" representing an integer equal to 1 (case of a single sulfur atom) or greater than 1 (case of several sulfur atoms).
In the generic formula (B) above, there is preferably at least one of the following characteristics which is verified:
Ari and Ar2 each represent an unsubstituted benzene ring;
X 1 and X 2 each represent either a sulfur atom or an oxygen atom; Z2 represents O or S (ie "n" equal to 1), more preferably S.
More preferably, it is the set of preferential characteristics above which is checked simultaneously.
In addition, in the formula (B) above, one or more hydrogen atoms of at least one or each benzene ring Ari and Ar2 could be substituted (or not) by one or more substituents, identical or different for example, by functional groups capable of promoting the adhesion of the polymer to the metal and / or to the rubber. As examples of N-Monomers (diols or thiols) that are preferentially suitable for the invention, the Monomers respectively denoted N1, N-2 and N-3 can be cited in FIGS. 10, 11 and 12 subsequently commented, monomers of respective formulas. (B1), (B-2) and (B-3) below:
Thus, the benzoxazine according to the invention of formula (A) is particularly intended for the synthesis of a polybenzoxazine (Polymer denoted "P") comprising recurring structural units comprise at least one unit corresponding to formula (I) (before opening oxazine rings) or formula (II) (after opening of the rings) below:
formulas (I) and (II) in which Z \ has the main definition and the preferred definitions already given above for the benzoxazine compound (monomer) of the invention.
By polymer is intended to be understood herein any homopolymer or copolymer, especially a block copolymer, with recurring structural units comprising at least one unit of formula (I) or (II) above; this polymer may of course comprise both units of formula (I) and units of formula (II).
In the formula (II) above, those skilled in the art will immediately understand that the two symbols "*" (identical or different) represent any attachment of the unit to a carbon atom or a heteroatom (preferably selected from O , S, N and P), attachment or bond resulting from the opening of the oxazine rings.
FIG. 9 represents a general scheme of synthesis, by polycondensation, of such a polybenzoxazine (Polymer P) from the halogenated benzoxazine according to the invention of formula (A) of FIG. 2 (M monomer) and another monomer, of generic formula (B), which is of the aromatic diol or thiol type (Monomer N).
Polybenzoxazine "P" of Figure 9, more exactly at least a part of its repeating units, was also shown in Figure 13, before (Figure 13a, Polymer P) and after (Figure 13b, Polymer P ') opening of oxazine cycles.
FIG. 10 represents a particular synthetic scheme of a specific polybenzoxazine (Polymer denoted by P1) of formula (I-1), from a particular halogenated benzoxazine according to the invention (Monomer M-7) of formula (A- 7) and another specific monomer (Monomer N1) of formula (B1) of the sulfur aromatic diol type (4,4'-thiodiphenol).
In this example, it is noted in particular that, according to a preferred embodiment of the invention already described, each benzene nucleus of benzoxazine (Monomer M-7) according to the invention carries one and only one halogen ( Hal), more preferably bromine, this halogen being more particularly located in the para position of the oxygen of the oxazine ring.
This polybenzoxazine of Figure 10, or more exactly at least a part of its repeating units, has also been shown in Figure 14, before (Fig. 14a, Polymer P1) and after (Fig. 14b, P-1 '). of its oxazine cycles following a sufficient heat input.
Thus, according to a particularly preferred embodiment, the polybenzoxazine resulting from the benzoxazine of the invention is characterized by recurring units comprising at least one unit corresponding to the particular formulas (1-1) (before opening the benzoxazine rings) or (II) -1) (after opening cycles):
FIG. 11 represents another particular synthetic scheme of another specific polybenzoxazine (Polymer denoted P-2), of formula (1-2), from the specific halogenated benzoxazine of the invention (Monomer M-7) preceding and another specific monomer (Monomer N-2) of formula (B-2), of the aromatic thiol type (additionally carrying an ether function).
FIG. 12 represents another particular synthetic scheme of another specific polybenzoxazine (Polymer denoted P-3), of formula (1-3), from the specific halogenated benzoxazine of the invention (Monomer M-7) previous and another specific monomer (Monomer B2) of the aromatic thiol type (additionally carrying a thioether function).
In these examples of FIGS. 11 and 12, as for the previous FIG. 10, it is noted in particular that, according to a preferred embodiment of the invention already indicated, each benzene nucleus of the benzoxazine of the invention carries a and a single halogen (Hal), more preferably bromine, located more particularly in the para position of the oxygen of the oxazine ring.
As already indicated, FIGS. 13 and 14 also represent the polybenzoxazines respectively denoted P 'and Ρ-Γ of FIGS. 9 and FIG. 10, once their oxazine cycles open.
Typically, the polybenzoxazine derived from the benzoxazine compound of the invention may comprise from ten to several hundred, preferably from 50 to 300 structural units with units of formula (I) and / or (II), in particular structural units as represented as examples in Figures 10 to 14 and 17.
This polybenzoxazine derived from the benzoxazine of the invention is advantageously usable, as an adhesion primer or as a single adhesive layer, for coating a metal substrate, at least a substrate whose at least one surface is at least partly metallic and adhere the latter to rubber. It is particularly useful on any type of metal reinforcement, such as for example a wire, a film or a steel cable, in particular carbon steel, intended in particular to reinforce an unsaturated rubber matrix such as natural rubber. To adhere the rubber to the polybenzoxazine layer, it is also possible to use any known adhesive system, for example a conventional textile glue of the "RFL" type (resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex). Those skilled in the art will readily understand that the connection between the metal substrate provided with its polybenzoxazine layer and the rubber layer with which it is in contact will be definitively ensured during the final curing (crosslinking) of the rubber article concerned. .
5, EXAMPLES OF CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
In the present application, unless expressly indicated otherwise, all the percentages (%) indicated are% by weight.
The following tests firstly describe the synthesis of a preferred benzoxazine compound (Monomer M-8) according to the invention, and that of a polybenzoxazine (Polymer P-4) from this monomer. Finally, adhesion tests are conducted to illustrate the excellent adhesive performance of polybenzoxazines derived from the benzoxazines of the invention. 5.1. Synthesis of a Halogenated Benzoxazine According to the Invention (Monomer M-81
For this synthesis, a 250 ml round-necked flask equipped with a thermometer, a nitrogen inlet, a magnetic stirrer and a condenser is available.
The synthesis is carried out according to the procedure shown schematically in Figure 15, as explained in detail below, from three compounds: a halogenated phenol (compound 1; 4-bromophenol; product Aldrich B75808), an aliphatic diamine (compound 2 1,8-diaminooctane, Aldrich D22401 product) and a p-formaldehyde (compound 3, Aldrich 158127 product), in the presence of two solvents (anhydrous toluene and ethanol).
Compound 1 (2 eq, 10.38 g, ie 60 mmol) is then poured into the flask and then ethanol (51 ml). The presence of ethanol is important here, preventing the formation of unstable triazine-type intermediate product. With stirring, the compound 2 (1 eq, 4.32 g, 30 mmol), the compound 3 (4 eq, 3.60 g or 120 mmol) and finally toluene (102 ml) are then introduced. The reaction medium is heated (about 75 ° C.) under reflux for 72 h, then placed under a rotary evaporator, at 50 ° C. under 50 mbar, for evaporation of the solvents. A lemon yellow oil is thus obtained.
This oil is then subjected to a first purification on a S102 column, using a diethyl ether / cyclohexane eluent, in a volume ratio of the two solvents varying from 10:35 (initial) to 10:20 (final). The purified fractions containing the monomer (M-8) are combined and the solvents evaporated. A light yellow solid is thus obtained. The latter is placed in methanol (1 g for 80 ml) and heated at reflux (65 ° C) for 30 min. The solution is then allowed to cool to room temperature (about 20 ° C.) to crystallize the monomer. The solid product obtained is isolated by filtration (Buchner filter). White crystals are thus obtained, which are dried in a vacuum oven at 50 ° C. overnight for the removal of any trace of solvent (reaction yield of about 60%).
The appended FIG. 16 reproduces the 1 H NMR spectrum (500 MHz) of the M-8 monomer thus synthesized, dissolved in CD2Cl2. This NMR analysis gives the following results: 1H MMR (500 MHz) CD2Cl2 1.29 (m, 8H), 1.51 (m, 4H), 2.67 (m, 4H), 3.92 (s, 4H), 4.82 (s, 4H) , 6-62 - 6-64- (d, 2H), 7.08 (s, 2H), 7.17-7.19 (d, 2H). 5.2, Synthesis of a Polvbenzoxazine (Polymer P-4)
This synthesis is carried out according to the procedure schematized in FIG. 17, as described in detail below, from two monomers: the benzoxazine of the invention obtained in the preceding step (Monomer M-8) and the aromatic diol sulfur of formula (B1) (4,4'-thiodiphenol; Monomer N1) already described in FIG. 10; this in the presence of sodium carbonate (Na2CC> 3, product Sigma Aldrich 13418), solvents (anhydrous) DMA (N, N-dimethylacetamide, product Sigma Aldrich 38839) and toluene (product Acros Organics No. 364411000). The two monomers (M-8 and Nl) are pre-dried in vacuo at 50 ° C overnight, as are the sodium carbonate but at a temperature of 150 ° C.
The synthesis is carried out in a 100 ml round-necked four-neck flask equipped with a nitrogen inlet, thermometer, magnetic stirrer and a Dean Stark separator topped with a condenser and condenser. a distillation bridge (provided with a heating cap). The apparatus is dried under vacuum using a hot air gun until the thermometer reaches a temperature of at least 100 ° C in the reaction flask. The whole is allowed to cool to room temperature (20 ° C.), then the apparatus is put under a stream of nitrogen throughout the synthesis.
The M-8 monomer (1 eq, 1.5 g, 2.79 mmol) of formula (A-8) is then first introduced into the flask, followed by the Nl monomer of formula (Bl) (1 eq, 0.61 g or 2.79 mmol). 20 ml of DMA (solvent of the two monomers) are then added, followed by Na 2 CC 3 (3 eq, 0.89 g or 8.36 mol) in suspension in 4 ml of toluene. The whole is purged under N2 for 5 min, then the reaction medium is heated to 105 ° C. Once this temperature is reached (heating-cap temperature of about 115 ° C), the distillation bridge of the Dean Stark apparatus is heated to 110 ° C (with the heating cap) to facilitate azeotropic distillation (water distillation / toluene) for about 90 minutes. Then the temperature of the reaction medium is gradually increased, by reducing by 10 ° C. every 30 min, until reaching 130 ° C. This temperature is left overnight (12 h), then allowed to cool to room temperature (20 ° C). The reaction mixture is finally poured into 250 ml of distilled water, with vigorous stirring (magnetic stirring bar); it is stirred for 30 minutes (20 ° C.), and the precipitate thus obtained is isolated by filtration (Buchner filter) and washed with 100 ml of distilled water; during this washing, to extract the carbonate, acid (10% aq. HCl) is added dropwise to neutral pH. The precipitate is again washed with 100 ml of distilled water, dried under vacuum at 80 ° C overnight (about 12 hours).
Polymer P-4 of FIG. 17 was thus obtained, as attested by the 1 H NMR analysis (500 MHz) in the solvent DMA-d6, which gave the following results: 7.36-7.38 (d, 2H), 7.21-7.33 (m, 2H) 7.11-7.16 (m, 5H), 6.99-7.0 (s, 2H) 6.8-6.82 (d, 1H), 6.62 (s, 1H), 6.78-6.80 (d, 1H), 4.24 (s, 4H), 3.55-3.80 (m, 4H), 2.07-2.14 (m, 4H), 1.08-1.40 (m, 12H).
This Polymer P-4, in the form of a beige powder, was also analyzed by DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) between -80 ° C. and + 260 ° C. in a ramp of 10 ° C./min (DSC apparatus "822-2" from Mettler Toledo, nitrogen atmosphere). The analysis showed at the first pass (between -80 ° C and + 260 ° C) an exotherm (corresponding to the opening of the oxazine rings, and the crosslinking of the polymer) beyond 200 ° C, with a maximum at 240 ° C. During the second and third passages of DSC conducted between -80 ° C and + 260 ° C, no visible glass transition (Tg) was visible, which shows the very high thermal stability of the polymer from the benzoxazine of the invention. 5.3, Adhesion Test in a Metal / Rubber Composite
One part (650 mg) of the previously prepared Polymer P-4 was dissolved in 8 ml of a mixture (according to volume ratio 10: 1) toluene / DTP (1,3-dimethyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro). -2 (/// - pyrimidinone, CAS 7226-23-5), this to form a slightly yellow transparent solution of which a fraction (0.7 ml) was then uniformly deposited on a brass strip (film) of dimensions 10 cm x 2.5 cm and thickness 0.3 mm, the assembly was placed in an oven at 175 ° C (ventilation in air) for 5 min, then an additional 5 min at 230 ° C under vacuum in order to partly eliminate all trace of solvent and secondly to open at least partially (that is to say totally or partially) the oxazine cycles of the polymer, this last step being accompanied a pronounced change in the color of the polymer, turning bright yellow.
After cooling to room temperature, the ribbon provided on the surface of its thin layer (thickness 5 to 10 μm) of polybenzoxazine thus formed, was then subjected to a conventional sizing operation in two stages (sizing two baths), while firstly by immersion in a first aqueous bath (about 94% water) based on epoxy resin (polyglycerol polyglycidyl ether, about 1%) and isocyanate compound (blocked caprolactam, about 5%), first sizing step followed by drying (2 min at 100 ° C.) and then heat treatment (5 min at 200 ° C.). Then the ribbon thus treated was immersed in a second aqueous bath of RFL glue (about 81% by weight of water) based on resorcinol (about 2%), formalin (about 1%) and a rubber latex ( about 16% of NR, SBR and VP-SBR rubbers); it was finally oven dried for 2 min at 130 ° C and then heat treated for 5 min at 200 ° C.
The brass ribbon thus coated with the polybenzoxazine film and then glued was then placed between two layers of conventional rubber composition for a passenger car tire belt, a composition based on natural rubber, carbon black, and silica. charge, and a vulcanization system (sulfur and sulfenamide accelerator); this composition being free of cobalt salt. Then the metal / rubber composite specimen thus prepared was placed in a press and baked (vulcanized) at 165 ° C for 15 min at a pressure of 20 bar.
After vulcanization of the rubber, excellent bonding was obtained between the rubber matrix and the metal ribbon despite the absence of cobalt salt in the rubber matrix: in peel tests (at 20 ° C.), it was found that Indeed, the break occurred systematically in the rubber matrix itself and not in the interphase between metal and rubber. Other gluing tests were conducted on a clear steel ribbon (uncoated); they also revealed excellent adhesion to rubber (systematic failure in the rubber matrix).
In conclusion, the benzoxazine according to the invention allows the synthesis of polymers offering metal reinforcements the major advantage of being able to then be glued to rubber matrices using simple textile glues such as RFL glues, or directly (c) that is, without use of such adhesives) to these rubber matrices, for example when they contain suitable functionalized unsaturated elastomers such as epoxidized elastomers.
Thus, metal reinforcements coated or not with adhesive metal layers such as brass, as well as surrounding rubber matrices devoid of metal salts, in particular cobalt salts, can be used.
In addition, this is a significant advantage over other known polymers described in the introduction to this specification, the polybenzoxazines derived from the benzoxazines of the invention have the remarkable ability, at high temperature, to open their oxazine rings and thereby lead to polyphenolic thermosetting resin structure. This gives them better thermal stability without visible phase transition at temperatures above 200 ° C. Their specific microstructure finally makes it possible, very advantageously, to adjust the flexibility of the molecule according to the particular applications concerned.
