A method of rapid, total and unaltered dissolution of amber for artistic painting. The invention relates to a method for dissolving in cooked or polymerized oils, amber milled very finely and implementing the reaction of camphor and succinic acid to dissociate it in the reaction medium The invention is characterized by the need to grind the amber very finely and or to condition it hot by maceration in a solvent mixture ethanol-turpentine.
These conditions are critical to the reaction of camphor with succinic acid to dissociate and dissolve amber in oils.
Les étapes et paramètres du procédé de l'invention conditionnent les réactions de dissociation-dissolution de l'ambre ainsi préparé dans les huiles du milieu réactionnelThe steps and parameters of the process of the invention condition the dissociation-dissolution reactions of the amber thus prepared in the reaction medium oils.
In particular temperatures, times and camphor content of 10% to 20% +/- 5% relative to the succinic acid concentration of amber. The invention characterized by the process of dissociation and dissolution of amber in the oils used in artistic painting results in the rapid realization of solutions, mediums and varnishes very clear and unaltered at a reasonable cost. These products are sought by painters concerned with the quality of their works by the control of the execution, the exaltation of the colors and the absence of embus or accidental dullness.
The subject of the present invention is a process for the rapid, complete and unaltered dissolution of yellow amber (fossil resin derived from: pinus succinifera and spruce anglas) intended to produce mediums and varnishes used for artistic painting.
The present invention relates to the field of the fine arts of oil painting and restoration works where the qualities sought for the realization of mediums to paint and varnish are those of amber: the touch and silky appearance, hardness of Painted films and durable protection without yellowing works made.
In the state of the prior art where we note some recipes or preparations for dissolution of amber and described in manuscripts of the 16th and 17th century and sometimes reproduced to date, produce dark or degraded solutions difficult to use in the field of art painting.
Indeed, these recipes darken whites, blues and light tones. Other recipes or dissolving preparations of amber have very high costs with low concentrations and limit their use.
For these reasons, the inventor can not be satisfied with the old or current recipes undertook research to obtain the rapid, total and without alteration of yellow amber at a reasonable cost. The inventor discovered very surprisingly that it was possible to dissolve yellow amber while preserving its qualities, by prior preparation before reacting it with a dissociation reagent compatible with vegetable oils cooked or not used in painting. of art necessary for dilutions.
In the context of the process of the invention and in a preferred embodiment of the present invention, there will be the following steps: Example No. 1 a) Ultrafine grinding of yellow amber less than 5 microns or 20 gr followed by hot maceration (80 ° C +/- 10 ° C) in an ethanol-turpentine mixture with a ratio of 80/20 and a duration of 48 to 60 hours. the ratio of amber / solvent 80/20 will be 1/5, followed by maceration for 30 days at room temperature, protected from the air. b) The whole will be evaporated and completely dried and regrind (note a mass increase of 22 to 25%) c) Polymerized linseed oil is heated to 20 gr at 80 ° C +/- 20 ° C and Cooked walnut oil is added (20 g) and heated to 120 ° C. d) Add solid camphor or 4 gr (20% of the amber) it is dissolved completely and introduced the finely ground amber is 20 gr, heated from 120 ° to 140 ° C for 10 to 20 minutes stirring the mixing, the dissociation reaction starts and the dissolution of the amber is effective up to a temperature of 165 ° +/- 10 ° C. e) The cooled solution is clear, amber and thixotropic.
In the context of the process of the invention and with another simplified embodiment of the present invention, there will be the following steps: Example No. 2 a) Ultra thin grinding of yellow amber less than 5 microns or 20 gr. b) introduction of ultrafine amber in linseed oil polymerized at 80 ° C or 20 gr.On add cooked walnut oil or cooked linseed or 20 gr, heated to 120 ° C. c) add the solid camphor is 4 gr (20% of the amber) it is dissolved completely in oils. d) The mixture is then heated from 120 ° to 140 ° C. for 10 to 20 minutes while stirring: the dissociation reaction is obtained and the amber dissolution is effective up to 165 ° +/- 10 ° C. The cooled amber solution is clear, amber and very thixotropic.
In the context of the process of the invention in which the fine milled amber will be conditioned by a solvent system consisting of pure ethanol and turpentine (alpha pinene) in a ratio of 80:20 to 60:40, there will also be a ratio of linalool / ethanol in a ratio of 0.5 +/- 3.
This conditioning-maceration of amber has the effect of extracting succinic acid, dehydroabetic acid and light terpenes in a polar fraction, amber isoprene tetraterpene is found in a non-polar fraction.
In the simplified mode, the very finely divided amber placed in the oils with the camphor will be dissociated by the extraction of the polar fraction (succinic acid, dehydroabetic acid and light terpenes) and amber isoprene tetraterpene is found in the non-polar fraction.
In both modes of preparation, a dissociation-dissolution reaction will be effective and characterized by the following reactions of the dissociation-amber dissolving process: succinic acid (0.5 mole) + camphor (1 mole) From 120 ° C., the succinic acid released from amber sprayed into its reaction medium and released by the action of the conditioning-maceration solvent system will react with the camphor (chiral catalyst and dissociation precursor). It follows the formation of succinic anhydride which in turn releases with camphor: 2 reactive oxygens resulting from oxygen double bonds will cut the isoprene tetraterpenic units of amber according to the following scheme: amber (C40H64) 0 + 2 oxygens : 2 (C20H32) 0.
The reaction medium in the example is polymerized linseed oil mainly composed of linoleic acid which will allow the dissolution of amber thus depolymerized. After evaporation and sublimation of the camphor during drying, amber will recover its initial polymerization (C40H64) 0 as well as its properties.
In the context of the process of the invention, the levels of reactive camphor are proportional to the concentrations of succinic acid contained in the amber to be dissolved.
Selon l'exemple suivant : 1 mole d'ambre en poudre fine soit : 560 gr contenant 10% d'acide succinique soit 56 gr il faudra 1 mole de camphre soit 152.24 grAccording to the following example: 1 mole of amber in fine powder is: 560 g containing 10% of succinic acid or 56 g will require 1 mole of camphor or 152.24 g
The stoichiometric calculation gives us a need of 19.82% of camphor to react on the succinic acid and realize dissociation-dissolution.
This value will be 10% to 20% +/- 5% of camphor with respect to the mass of amber to dissolve to simplify the manufacture. The inventor has also corollary that the elimination and total extraction of succinic acid from fine milled amber or conditioned by solvents, does not allow dissociation-dissolution by camphor to the conditions required in the examples. 1 and 2, in the oils of the reaction medium.
According to the two methods of preparation dissociation and dissolution of finely milled amber, the solutions thus obtained with the vegetable oils can reach a concentration of 1 to 100g of amber per 100g of oil.
These solutions are made with cooked or polymerized linseed oil, cooked walnut oil or safflower oil and these cooked oils siccativée by metal oxides.
The process of the invention and its two methods of preparation of amber solutions is intended for the production of product lines used in the field of the fine arts: such as mediums for roughing, painting and varnishing. retouching or protection. These amber solutions are easy to handle, store and use without harming the health. The initial goal is achieved.
These amber solutions are characterized by a great fineness of line, a flexible execution, an exaltation of colors and the total absence of embus and dullness.
