Selon l'invention, un site marchand (1) génère au moins un support d'identification (2) dans lequel est mémorisé et codé sous forme d'image (5) un identifiant de client (3). Le site marchand (1) affecte un compte au support d'identification (2), et on affecte à un client le support d'identification (2) et un mot de passe de client (4). Le client se connecte au site marchand (1) par un terminal de lecture et de transmission (10, 20), qui reçoit du client le mot de passe de client (4), qui lit ladite image (5) contenue dans le support d'identification (2), qui la décode pour en extraire l'identifiant de client (3), et qui communique au site marchand (1), par le réseau Internet (9) et de façon sécurisée, le mot de passe de client (4) et l'identifiant de client (3) pour établir l'accès de l'utilisateur à son compte personnel dans le site marchand (1). Le site marchand (1) contrôle le mot de passe de client (4) et l'identifiant de client (3), et autorise en cas de succès l'accès au compte.
