Description
OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to the general field of gas generators. It aims more precisely, but not exclusively, the gas generators used for the actuation of turbines. Such gas generators may for example be used as starting or emergency devices for turbines such as those present in helicopter engines or thrusters. Gas generators can also be used to drive turbopumps or deploy airbags known as airbags. A gas generator comprises a reservoir containing a determined quantity of solid or liquid propellant which, on burning, generates a gas flow which is ejected from the reservoir in order to supply the associated device or apparatus (eg turbine, airbag, etc.). ). In the case of a starting device or emergency device embedded in an aircraft, the size and mass of the gas generator must be minimized to the maximum so as not to penalize the performance of the engine or engines. This is also the case for airbag devices that must be able to integrate in very small spaces inside a vehicle with the additional requirement of simplicity of structure and operation in order to control the overall cost of the vehicle. device. These requirements do not allow to equip the gas generators with active control systems for regulating the flow rate and / or the pressure of the gas outlet of the tank. However, there is a need for low-mass gas generators and space, these generators must also have a simple design while ensuring reliable control of gas flow. OBJECT AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION To this end, the present invention provides a gas generator 35 comprising a propellant tank, the tank being connected to a supply pipe by a convergent-divergent nozzle 3033882 2 comprising a first sonic neck, said supply line being closed on the opposite side to the nozzle by a second sonic neck through which gases from the combustion of the propellant are discharged, generator in which the ratio between the section of the second neck and the section of the first neck is greater than The double-neck architecture and the section ratio between the two necks according to the invention makes it possible to generate and maintain a straight-edge shock wave, also called a "right shock", in the divergent portion of the nozzle. , that is to say downstream of the section of the first neck.
This makes it possible to decouple the operation of the first system formed by the propellant tank provided with the convergent-divergent nozzle from the operation of the second system constituted by the supply line and the second neck. It is thus possible to operate in a primed manner the two systems (sonic flow in the two necks) with a different generator pressure in the reservoir and the feed pipe, and this while ensuring a constant mass flow output of the second. collar. The first neck of the convergent-divergent nozzle may be sized to adjust the ballistic operation of the generator, namely the pressure in the reservoir and the mass flow rate at the outlet of the nozzle which is kept at the outlet of the second neck. The generating pressure in the supply line is regulated by the second neck and the stabilization of a right shock in the divergent nozzle. The stabilized right shock in the diverging nozzle also has the effect of causing the flow of a supersonic regime to a subsonic regime in the feed line. According to a first aspect of the gas generator of the invention, the reservoir thereof contains one or more solid propellant charges. It is thus possible to have a fully equipped gas generator for controlled flow operation that can be safely shipped into systems until it is used. According to a second aspect of the gas generator of the invention, each solid propellant charge has a geometry capable of adjusting the gas flow rate at the outlet of the supply line, which makes it possible to minimize the space requirement and the mass of the gas generator. At least a portion of each solid propellant charge may be inhibited to better control the combustion of each charge. According to a third aspect of the gas generator of the invention, the second neck has a variable section. The variation of the section 5 of the second neck, in limited proportions as indicated below, has no impact on the mass flow rate which remains constant at the outlet of the second neck. The invention also relates to a device for assisting a propulsion system of a single-engine helicopter comprising a turbine engine connected to a power transmission gearbox adapted to drive a rotor, the device comprising a rotating drive turbine. an output shaft mechanically connected to the power transmission box, and a gas generator according to the invention, the inlet of the drive turbine being connected to the second neck of said gas generator so as to be fed with entrainment gases. The invention also relates to a helicopter comprising an assistance device according to the invention.

In the figures: FIG. 1 is a sectional view of a gas generator according to an embodiment of the invention; - Figure 2 is a schematic representation showing the operation of the gas generator of Figure 1.
OF THE INVENTION FIG. 1 schematically illustrates in longitudinal section a gas generator, or pressure generator, 100 in accordance with one embodiment of the invention. In the rest of the description, the terms "upstream" and "downstream" define the relative positions of certain elements of the generator along the direction of the gas flow represented by the arrow E in FIG. 1. The gas generator 100 3033882 4 comprises an envelope 101 surrounding a tank 110 containing a solid propellant charge 111, a thermal protection 112 being interposed between the load 111 and the casing 101. The bottom 113 of the tank 110 is traversed by an ignition device 114 for 5 initiating the combustion of the solid propellant charge 111. The ignition device 114 may be for example an electropyrotechnic type device composed of a safety pin and a relay charge (not shown in Figure 1). The tank 110 is connected in its downstream portion to a supply line 130 through a convergent-divergent nozzle 120 comprising a convergent 121 in contact with the tank outlet 110 and a diverging portion 122 whose end is connected to the upstream of the feed pipe 130, the convergent 121 and the divergent 122 defining between them a first neck 123. The feed pipe 130 is closed in its downstream part by a second neck 131. In the example described here, the gas generator 100 is intended to actuate a supersonic turbine 10. Again in the example described here, the supersonic turbine 10 constitutes, in combination with the gas generator 100, a device for assisting a propulsion system of a helicopter Single engine. For this purpose, the turbine 10 comprises a wheel 11 intended to be driven by the gases from the generator 100, the wheel 11 being secured to a drive shaft 12 connected to a power transmission gearbox 20 adapted to drive a rotor In this embodiment, the second neck 131 is coupled to the injection nozzle 13 of the turbine 10. The operation of the gas generator 100 is now explained in connection with the simplified diagram of FIG. When necessary, for example in the event of detecting a loss of power on the single turbine engine of the helicopter, a computer (not shown in Figure 2) emits an electrical signal to the starter device. ignition 114 whose function is to transform this electrical order in pyrotechnic order and initiate the relay load. The pyrotechnic signal initiated by the relay charge is intended to ignite the solid propellant charge 111 present in the tank 100 which here forms a combustion chamber. After ignition of the charge 111, the surface thereof burns and progresses producing combustion gases that escape from the reservoir creating a flow E. The flow rate law of the flow E is determined by the geometry of the flow. or loading and / or total or partial inhibition of certain parts of the load. In the example described here, the load 111 has a multilobed geometry 5 which makes it possible to increase the combustion surface of the load while minimizing the bulk and mass of the gas generator (FIG. 1). According to the invention, the ratio between the section A131 of the second neck 131 and the section A123 of the first neck must be greater than 1: 10 A131 A123> 1 This double collar architecture and the section ratio between the two necks as defined above allows the creation of a right shock Cd which stabilizes in the divergent 122 downstream of the first neck 123 and which has the effect of passing the flow E of a supersonic regime at the level of the output neck 123 at a subsonic regime in the feed pipe 130. This double-neck architecture and a section ratio between the two necks as defined above allows to decouple the operation of the first system formed by the propellant tank 110 provided with the convergent-divergent nozzle 120 of the operation of the second system constituted by the feed pipe 130 and the second neck. The first neck 123 of the convergent-divergent nozzle 120 may be sized to adjust the ballistic operation of the generator, i.e. the pressure Pu. in the tank 110 and the mass flow rate at the outlet of the nozzle 120 which is kept at the outlet of the second neck 131. The generating pressure Pi2 in the supply line is regulated by the second neck 131 and by the stabilization of the right shock Cd in the divergent 122 of the nozzle.
La section du deuxième col peut donc être notamment choisie de manière à ce que le rapport entre la section du deuxième col et la section de sortie du divergent soit inférieur à 1. 30It is thus possible to operate in a primed manner the two systems (sonic flow in the two necks) with a different generating pressure in the reservoir and the feed pipe, and while ensuring a constant mass flow output of the second. Thus, with the gas generator of the invention, the mass flow rate at the outlet of the second neck 131 can be retained even in case of variation of the section of this second neck. The variation of the section of the second neck may be desired, that is to say that the section of the neck is formed by movable elements whose relative movements are controlled by an actuating device so as to bring these elements in order to act on the value of the neck section. In known manner, the neck section variation can be achieved in particular with a needle system or movable flap that modulates the gas flow section at the neck. In the case of a double-neck system, the variation of the section of the second neck 10 makes it possible in particular to achieve a constant flow supersonic turbine output speed modulation or a thrust modulation for a solid propellant engine. The variation of the section of the second neck can also occur uncontrollably, as is the case for example when a deposit is formed on the wall of the neck during the combustion of the load. In the latter case, the partial obstruction of the second neck does not change the output flow thereof. The variation of the section of the second neck is however limited. Indeed, in the case of a decrease in the section of the second neck, it must remain greater than the section of the first neck to maintain the section ratio between the two necks as defined above. In the case of an increase in the section of the second neck, it has the effect of moving the shock wave further downstream in the divergent of the convergent-divergent nozzle. The increase in the section of the second neck is preferably limited to such a value that there always remains a right shock in the divergent. The section of the second neck may therefore be chosen in particular so that the ratio between the section of the second neck and the exit section of the divergent is less than 1. 30
