Description
The invention relates to a disk brake caliper housing for floating mounting, as well as to a a brake or a vehicle including such a housing, and a method of manufacturing such a housing or brake. According to the invention, this stirrup housing comprises at least one stiffening element 21 formed by an insert which is fixedly secured to each of the fingers, so as to have as a whole a rigidity and possibly a damping determined to modify the vibratory behavior of said caliper housing 1, sufficiently to remove or modify at least one excited resonance mode during braking. The invention also proposes a process for industrializing such a caliper housing, which comprises: vibratory analysis of a separate and unrelated finger caliper housing, to identify at least one vibratory resonance mode, determination or choosing at least one stiffening element 21 to be fixed on said housing to thus present a suppression or a modification of said vibratory resonance mode, in particular by frequency displacement or in phase between two given parts or in position or amplitude of the deformation. State of the art Disc brakes are a type of brake widely used in road vehicles, including four wheels, especially automobiles and light commercial vehicles. In a disc brake, a stirrup spans a sector of the disc and maintains in its two legs or branches a pair of friction liners or pads, one on each side of the disc. These linings are pressed against the disk by the action of one or more brake pistons, generally actuated by hydraulic pressure. The stirrup is integral in rotation of the vehicle, for example the knuckle forming the hub of the wheel. This clamping thus creates a friction between the linings and the disc 3031153 - 2 - which dissipates as heat the kinetic energy of the wheel and brakes. In a widespread type of mounting, called "floating" assembly, of which an example of housing 1 is illustrated in FIGURE 1, only one B1 of the 5 branches of the caliper contains a brake piston which presses on one of the gaskets, and the other branch B2 receives directly the support of the other called outer wafer. The support of the piston on one of the pads thus decreases the gap available between the two arms of the caliper, acting on one side of the disc. To compensate for this unilateral decrease, the stirrup as a whole moves in translation parallel to the direction of movement A5 of the piston, for example by bores 12 which slide on columns integral with the undercarriage. The manufacture of such a caliper housing is most often carried out in the foundry, and requires a subsequent machining step to achieve the finishes, in particular the inside of the piston housing 15 which must be sealed against hydraulic pressure . To allow the passage to the machining tool that will machine the interior of this housing, the opposite branch is made in the form of two elongate portions 8, 9 extending towards the axis of the wheel, called fingers caliper. The gap E89 free between these fingers is located just opposite the axis A5 of the piston housing, and thus allows the passage of the machining tool. The housings comprising a single piston generally have two fingers leaving between them a gap in front of the piston housing. The two-piston housings juxtaposed in the same branch generally have three fingers leaving between them two empty spaces each located in front of one of the piston housings. In general, a recurring problem in braking systems is the appearance of noises in the mechanism at the time of braking, generally from high to medium frequency, in a manner that is difficult to predict and avoid, sometimes even in different ways for the same model of brake. An object of the invention is to reduce braking noise created by the brake mechanism and which are audible and / or annoying to the human ear. This objective is sought in conjunction with advantages in terms of simplicity, cost and reliability, manufacturing and maintenance. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The inventors have studied in depth the types of noise occurring, and attempted to analyze their causes.
A noise frequently emitted by this type of disc brake is a kind of squeak or squeal called "squeal" in English terminology. It is in a frequency range from 1kHz to 15 or 16kHz occurring at low brake pressure, for example between 5bar and 30bar.
The inventors have determined that it is often the complex product of vibratory deformation of stirrup fingers at certain resonance modes. This vibration of the fingers excites the outer lining, which itself transmits its vibration to the disk which amplifies it. The assembly formed by the fingers with the liner and disc creates a complex vibratory system that is capable of producing several resonance or eigenmodes. To achieve all or part of these objectives, the invention provides a disk brake caliper housing, in particular for floating mounting. This type of caliper housing forms two branches spanning a sector 25 of a brake disk to enclose between at least two friction linings, one-piece or possibly two pieces assembled together and each forming one of branches. In this type of housing, a first branch includes a housing in which a piston is moved in translation to apply a clamping force by pressing on the back of a first friction lining on one side of the disc, and a second branch has at least two separate fingers, in the sense that they are not connected by a continuity of their material. These fingers extending towards the axis of the disc and press against the back of at least a second friction lining, located on the opposite side of the disc, when a clamping force is applied by the piston. . According to the invention, this caliper housing further comprises at least one stiffening element formed by an insert which is fixedly secured by fixing means on each of said fingers in a fixing part determined so that said fixing portions are separated from each other by at least a portion of the space separating the fingers from each other, for example fastening portions located at a distance from the base of the fingers of more than half of their length or at their ends. In addition, said at least one stiffening element and its fixing means as a whole have a rigidity determined to modify the vibration behavior of said caliper housing sufficiently to remove or modify at least one excited resonance mode during braking.
Surprisingly, such a stiffener integral with the fingers provides a modification which can be substantial in the vibration behavior of the fingers but also in their interaction with the outer liner. Such a stiffener integrated into the vibratory assembly provides some additional stiffness between the fingers. Even when its mass is too small to influence behavior, it was noted that the very nature of its attachment to the fingers provided a damping factor that surprisingly influenced the overall behavior. Depending on the characteristics of this stiffener and its fasteners, a modification of the eigenmodes of the case and in particular of its fingers is thus obtained. This modification relates in particular to one or more of the following aspects: modification of the deformed, which occurs for example in another part or in a reversed direction in phase, shift of the natural frequency ("shift" in English) , removal of some eigen modes. The invention also brings the following advantages: a better damping for the entire disk brake assembly, in particular by the stiffening combined with the screwed fastening mode - a reduced vibration amplitude of the different fingers The invention thus makes it possible to improve the situation with regard to the noises of the braking mechanism, in particular when the generation of "squeal" is linked to a specific mode of operation. coupling the caliper fingers and the outer liner. The invention further provides a disk brake comprising a caliper housing as set forth herein, as well as a vehicle or vehicle subassembly comprising at least one such caliper housing.
In another aspect, the invention further provides such a method of manufacturing a caliper housing, comprising the steps of: providing a caliper housing having at least two separate (and unrelated) fingers ), and fixing at least one stiffening element between said fingers.
For example, the fingers are machined locally to prepare a bearing surface for example a flat or a recess, and a fastening mechanism for example a bore opening for the passage of a bolt or a threaded hole for implantation. tightening screw.
In a further aspect, the invention further provides a method of industrializing a caliper housing as set forth herein which comprises the following steps: vibration analysis, hardware or digital simulation, of a housing of stirrup with at least two separate and unrelated fingers to identify at least one vibratory resonance mode, determining or selecting at least one stiffening element to be fixed on said stirrup housing to obtain such stirrup housing having thus a deletion or a modification of said vibratory resonance mode, in particular in frequency (bringing a frequency displacement of the vibratory mode) or in phase (bringing for example a synchronization or desynchronization of the fingers between them) or amplitude (bringing by for example a decrease in the amplitude of deformation for a mode remaining or a displacement of this deformation in another part of the housing). Optionally, these steps are repeated incrementally until a sufficient improvement is obtained on one or more noises that are intended to reduce or eliminate.
According to several features that can be combined with one another at will, the invention proposes various modes of control of the vibratory modifications brought about by the addition of such a stiffener. Such a check is made in particular by the choice of the dimensions of the stiffener, for example in width and thickness, and / or by the choice of the number of stiffeners mounted on several fingers, for example several juxtaposed or superimposed. According to one of these control modes, the determination or choice of the stiffening element comprises a choice of material constituting said stiffening element.
Thus, the stiffening element may be made of different materials depending on the desired result, for example in the form of an elongate strip or a more or less wide plate, and for example: a metallic material, for example steel. a plastic material 25 a composite material, for example fibers within a plastic matrix or elastomer sandwich or laminated material based on different thicknesses of different materials, a plurality of plates independent of each other over all or part of their length, possibly in different materials and for example above mentioned materials According to another of these control modes, the determination or the choice of the stiffening element comprises a choice of at least one modification treatment of the material to be applied to said stiffening element . The same material is then applied one or more treatments for example physicochemical, for example quenching or nitriding or mechanical hardening. According to yet another of these control modes, the determination or selection of the stiffening element comprises a choice of at least one type of fastening means of said stiffening element on the stirrup fingers. The choice of fixing methods relates to various factors, and among others the material of the fastening elements and / or the treatment of this material.
This choice also relates to the architecture of the fasteners. For example, the fastening means of the stiffening element are thus formed by at least one through bolt and clamping together an end of said stiffening element with the fixing portion of the corresponding finger.
Alternatively, these fasteners are made by riveting, preferably by steel rivets. Optionally, the stiffener can be fixed differently on the different fingers. All fixing means known to those skilled in the art for securing such elements are envisaged, by a screw in a threaded hole, and / or an addition of different intermediate elements such as washers made of various more or less flexible materials. . When the stirrup has more than two fingers, for example three, a stiffener is mounted on two or more fingers, for example on the three fingers. Different variants are provided according to the different possible combinations, for example the same stiffener on three fingers attached to each finger, or only two of them, or two different stiffeners 30 each mounted in front of one of the free spaces between two fingers. Various embodiments of the invention are provided, integrating, according to all of their possible combinations, the various optional features set forth herein. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Other features and advantages of the invention will emerge from the detailed description of an embodiment which is in no way limitative, and from the appended drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a perspective view at scale which illustrates a floating mounting bracket housing according to the prior art, which can be used to produce a housing according to the invention; FIGURE 2 is a scale perspective view illustrating a floating mounting bracket housing in an exemplary embodiment of the invention; FIGURE 3a-c are numerical simulation meshed graphical representations showing by color variations the deformations of an independent finger caliper housing digital model such as that of FIGURE 1 for three different frequencies; FIGS. 4a-c are gridded digital simulation graphical representations showing, by color variations, the deformations of a numerical model of the same caliper housing after attachment of a stiffener according to the invention as illustrated in FIGURE 2. Description An exemplary embodiment of the invention FIG. 2 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the invention relating to a floating mounting bracket housing 2 and a single piston housing. This example can be obtained from a housing 1 as illustrated in FIGURE 1, and the unchanged elements bear the same references. In this exemplary embodiment, the fingers 28, 29 of the housing 2 are connected by a stiffener 21 formed by a flat bar in a circular arc substantially concentric with the brake disc. This stiffener is here inserted into recesses on the surface of the fingers, and is fixed thereto by bolts 218 and 219. FIGURE 3a-c shows the deformations of a digital model of independent finger caliper housing such that that of FIG. 1, for three different frequencies producing the eigen modes of greater amplitude. On these graphs, the deformations are illustrated amplified in their geometry. In addition, the weakly deformed parts are initially represented in blue on the graph, and the most important deformations are originally shown in yellow and culminating in red on the graph, and are here surrounded by an ellipse in dashed. In FIGURE 3a, at 3973Hz, in addition to one of the lugs carrying the fixing bores 12, it can be seen that one 18 of the fingers and only one exhibits a deformation and therefore has a high amplitude own mode for this frequency. . In FIGURE 3b, at 4030Hz, in addition to an eigenmode of average amplitude for the side of the piston housing 15 and one of the attachment lugs, it can be seen that the two fingers 18, 19 both have their own mode. of high amplitude for one 19 and of medium amplitude for the other 18, and deform in phase opposition with respect to each other. In FIGURE 3c, at 4986Hz, the two fastening tabs 12 exhibit a high amplitude mode of phase synchronization, and the two fingers 18, 19 both have their own mode of high amplitude in phase synchronization. In comparison, FIGS. 4a-c represent the deformations of a digital model of independent finger caliper housing such as that of FIGURE 2, for three different frequencies producing the eigen modes of greater amplitude.
In FIGURE 4a, at 3790Hz, the plunger housing has two deformed regions and the two fingers 28, 29 exhibit eigenmodes of high amplitude in phase opposition. In FIGURE 4b, at 3997Hz, only the stiffener 21 has a significant eigen mode, here of medium to high amplitude.
In FIGURE 4c, at 4198Hz, only the stiffener 21 has a significant eigen mode, here of medium to high amplitude, and the fixing lugs 12 have a low amplitude own mode. 3031153 - 10 - Thus, we see that the addition of the stiffener has allowed to move the main eigen modes significantly in their frequencies, generally in the direction of the decline. In addition, we also note that their amplitude has significantly decreased, since only one of the three eigen modes of the housing 2 according to the invention, that of FIGURE 4a, still has an amplitude comparable to those of the three main modes of the housing 1. In addition, some modes have been moved in their location, those of FIGURE 4b and c, since it is the stiffener 21 that deforms and no longer the functional parts of the housing. Thus, it can be seen that the addition of the stiffener 21 has made it possible to modify and attenuate the eigenmodes of the case and in particular of the fingers, and thus is able to provide a means of control making it possible to reduce the braking noises actually occurring at the same time. 'use.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the examples which have just been described and many adjustments can be made to these examples without departing from the scope of the invention.
