Abstract
The invention consists of the process and its stages of development of a new material: a plastic lace, made from a polyethylene sheet. The process steps and techniques used are in order: - the needling - the passage of the hot material - the glaze of the surface obtained. The result is a thin and airy plastic lace. Its fields of application are textiles: clothing, surface and environment.
Description
Plastic lace from a polyethylene sheet There are already on the market polyethylene sheets manufactured industrially with perforations very regularly according to various types of drawings. There are micro perforated films with unidirectional vision for various applications for example: application on glass, showcases or for use in the building, roofing. These films often presented in plates or in rolls are stretched during their application and processed upstream for their resistance to UV and to the conditions outside. In the textile field, the polyethylene thread is often used at about 20% of the textile material and the network is manufactured by a criss-cross stitch. This is not the case in our proposal where we start from the polyethylene sheet alone. What differs in the manufacture of our plastic lace, from a sheet of polyethylene, is the process that undergoes the sheet in order to obtain the lace effect. The lace is fine and fragile. For it to be used in repeated uses, it will have to undergo an industrial treatment by coating which will reinforce its resistance and will allow to clean it without fear of tearing. At the present stage it is a textile prototype.
Its fields of application are textiles: clothing, surface and environment. The starting material surface is a fairly thin polyethylene plastic sheet. The thickness can be between 12 to 40 microns, however it can vary depending on the desired effect and the desired fineness. The resulting lace is supple, airy. It can be cut and shaped to fit for example the human body, or be suspended as a curtain, separation in a room. Manufacturing process: 1 - The polyethylene sheet is passed under a needling machine (which makes it possible to apply the needling process) in order to perforate the entire surface in a very dense manner (approximately 30 points per cm 2) and randomly. The raw material is refined and made very flexible. The randomness of the bites is important because it will give the irregular appearance of voids and solid in matter. This will subsequently develop a range of different surfaces depending on the size of the stitches, their density and the thickness of the sheet. 2- The combination of two or more sheets of colored plastics is possible. These 30 sheets are superimposed flat, very tight and needled together. Thus each face is of a different color. 3- Once this step is completed, the material is placed in a heating press or iron. This will distend the material and make the bites apparent, which creates a perforated lace effect. The resulting surface is matte.
The whole is heated, then the frosting sheet is removed leaving a glossy surface. The final appearance is a very thin plastic lace, flexible and semi transparent.
