Description
The invention relates to a method that facilitates the launching of an application in a software environment. More specifically, the method facilitates access to the main functions of an on-board computer of a motor vehicle, when the latter is controlled using a touch interface. The invention also relates to a computer program that implements the method, to a device such as an on-board computer that implements the method, and to a vehicle equipped with such an on-board computer.
It is known to equip motor vehicles with a high-performance on-board computer. Using a bulletin board or a screen, the onboard computer can provide access to various driving parameters calculated in real time based on data from various sensors. In addition to vehicle-related functions, an on-board computer can also manage a vehicle-based positioning and navigation system, entertainment system, or other utility applications. Typically, an on-board computer is driven using physical commands such as push buttons or rotating buttons. In addition, a touch screen located at the center console of the dashboard can facilitate access to the various functions of the on-board computer. Since the use of a touch screen requires the visual attention of the user, this use is generally not within the reach of the driver, who would necessarily be distracted. The elements of a graphical interface represented on a touch screen can be positioned at positions that are difficult to access. To control such an on-board computer, it is therefore often recommended to use physical control elements located at points on the dashboard that are easily accessible from the driver's position. It is known to use touch screens to facilitate the use of human-machine interfaces, especially in the field of mobile phones or tablet computers. US 2006/0026521 A1 discloses a method for detecting contacts and finger gestures on a touch screen. The method essentially relates to centering or zooming operations of the displayed image, according to the actions performed by the fingers on the touch screen. US patent document 2012/0154313 A1 discloses a method for recognizing the position of different fingers on a touch screen. The method allows in particular to adjust the positioning of tactile elements of a graphical interface displayed on the touch screen, depending on the detected position of the fingers. DE 10 2009 059 869 A1 discloses a method which facilitates the tactile use of an on-board computer for a motor vehicle. Following a touch of the touch screen, the method displays a selection of touch controls available in the context that is running. For example, if a user touches a displayed list of a finger, the method displays information. The information informs the user that a particular gesture on an element of the list allows the selection. The object of the invention is to propose a method that can be implemented on an on-board computer, as well as such an on-board computer that overcomes at least one of the aforementioned disadvantages. More particularly, the invention aims to provide a method and a device for accessing the main functions of an on-board computer through a touch interface and without diverting the driver's attention. The invention also aims to propose a motor vehicle equipped with such a computer board. The invention relates to a method for facilitating the launch of an application in a software environment. The method is notable in that it comprises the following steps: - detecting simultaneous touching of at least three fingers on any position of a touch input interface for controlling the software environment; - Launch, following said detection, a first predefined application regardless of the execution of other applications.
The execution of the first application may preferably define at least two launch zones on the touch input interface. The method comprises in this case the following additional steps following the launch of the first application: - detecting a touch of at least one finger on a position that corresponds to one of the launching areas; - Launch, following said detection, an application associated with the affected launching area. Preferably, four launching areas partitioning the entire touch surface are defined. Alternatively, launch zones can be on virtual tables. A virtual board can be selected by a sliding motion of one or more fingers on the touch interface. The touch input interface may preferably be a touch screen, for example a capacitive technology screen. The software environment may preferably be an operating system of an on-board computer of a motor vehicle. The invention also relates to a device for implementing the method described. The device is remarkable in that it comprises a touch input interface, a memory and processing means, for example a CPU, CPU. The processing means are able to: - execute applications in a software environment; - detect a simultaneous touch of at least three fingers on any position of the touch input interface for controlling the software environment; - following said detection, launching a first predefined application independently of the execution of other applications; detecting a touch of at least one finger on a position corresponding to a launch zone defined by said first application on the touch interface; - Launch, following said detection, an application associated with the affected launching area.
The touch input interface may preferably be a touch screen, for example a capacitive technology screen. Preferably, the software environment may be an operating system of an on-board computer of a motor vehicle. The subject of the invention is also a computer program comprising computer-readable code and remarkable in that it leads the computer to implement the method described when it is executed by the computer. In addition, the subject of the invention is a device comprising a computer readable recording medium. The device is remarkable in that the computer program according to the invention is recorded on the recording medium. Finally, the invention relates to a motor vehicle comprising an on-board computer. The vehicle is remarkable in that the onboard computer is in accordance with the device described and implementing the method according to the invention. Other features and advantages of the present invention will be better understood from the description and drawings in which: FIG. 1 illustrates the main steps of a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention; FIG. 2 illustrates the main steps of a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, including details of the detection step; FIG. 3 illustrates the main steps of a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention; FIGS. 4a, 4b and 4c schematically illustrate various steps of using a device implementing a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention; - Figure 5 schematically shows a preferred embodiment of a device according to the invention. Figure 1 shows the main steps of the method according to the invention. The method facilitates the launch of an application in a software environment, such as for example an operating system. The beginning of the method is followed by a detection step 10, during which the method detects a simultaneous touch of at least three fingers on any position of a touch input interface which is able to control the software environment. Following this detection 10, the method launches a predefined application independently of the execution of other applications in progress 20. The method preferably evolves in loop 50, so as to ensure that the detection step 10 is performed independently of any execution in progress. FIG. 2 illustrates in detail the detection step 10. A touch event 11 on the interface used to control the software environment is recorded. The method compares the recorded event 11 with the known event that corresponds to touching at least three fingers on any position of the touch interface.
This is achieved by the comparator 12. In practice, it is sufficient to detect a touch of at least three fingers, without taking into account the relative positions of the three fingers on the touch interface. If the recorded event 11 is not a touch of at least three fingers, the process goes back and waits for a new touch event. If, on the other hand, the recorded event 11 corresponds to a touch of at least three fingers, the method activates the next step 20 and executes a predefined command. The process ends once the software environment stops operating. Figure 3 illustrates the steps of a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention. The beginning of the process is followed by a detection step 10, during which the method detects a simultaneous touch of at least three fingers on any position of a touch input interface which is intended to drive the software environment. Following this detection 10, the method launches a predefined application independently of the execution of other applications 20. The application or command launched is preferably part of the operating system that implements the method. It defines at least two, but preferably a plurality of, launching areas on the surface of the touch interface. Advantageously, the launching areas do not overlap and partition the entire touch surface. During a detection step 40, a touch of at least one finger on a position that corresponds to one of the launching areas is detected. Following this detection, the method executes a specific application that is associated with the launch area that has been hit. This implements a touch selection menu. The method preferably evolves in loop 50, so as to ensure that the detection step 10 is performed independently of any current execution. This explains in general the operating principle of the invention.
The method can be implemented on a computer comprising a touch interface and executing a controllable software environment from the touch interface. Advantageously but not limitatively, the touch interface can be part of a touch screen, which serves as both a graphical output interface and a touch input interface.
The advantageous operation of the process will be explained on the basis of a concrete example without being limited to it. In a preferred embodiment, the method facilitates access to the main functions of an on-board computer of a motor vehicle. These include, for example, entertainment, navigation, driving parameters, telephone, or other functions. It is important that the driver can quickly access a desired application, without having to divert his attention from driving the vehicle. In this embodiment, the input touch interface is a touch screen. Touch screens, for example with capacitive technology, are known per se in the art and will not be detailed in this document. Likewise, powerful touch detection algorithms on such interfaces are known in the art. It is assumed that the process uses these known means.
As illustrated in FIG. 4a, a user touches the touch surface of the screen 110 simultaneously with at least three fingers. Touch 111 is detected by the method. This corresponds to step 10 of FIG. 3. The method then starts a predefined command, corresponding to step 20 of FIG. 3. In the example of FIG. 4b, the command that is executed independently of any one running in the moment of touch, displays a score of the screen. The partition corresponds to a division of the tactile interface into launch zones. In the example shown, four launch zones A, B, C, and D are displayed. Each launch pad defines a touch-sensitive GUI element. Following the detection of a touch 112, on an area, the application corresponding to the affected area is executed. This corresponds to steps 30 and 40 of FIG. 3. In the illustration of FIG. 4c, the touch of zone A has started a radio application. The touch 112 may be a touch of a finger, or a touch of several fingers.
If several fingers touch the interface on the same defined area, the corresponding application is started. The method according to the invention makes it possible to have quick access to the main controls of the on-board computer. Any touch with more than three fingers gives access to the available applications. Additional virtual launch boards can be accessed by sliding a finger on the touch screen. This action does not cause the driver's attention to be diverted to the screen display. A coordinated gesture is enough to give access to the touch controls of the on-board computer. Similarly, a simple touch in one of the areas A, B, C and D launches the corresponding application. A concrete example showing the advantages of the process is given with reference to FIGS. 4a and 4b. After a short learning time, the driver will know that the radio application (A) is accessible through the quadrant at the top left of the touch screen. A first three-finger tap 111 in this quadrant (or anywhere on the touch screen) will display the launch pad A, B, C, D. A second three-finger tap 112 (or any number of fingers) in the same quadrant then launches the radio application. From any running execution, the radio application becomes accessible, for example, by a double 'click' with three fingers in the corresponding quadrant, without necessarily having to use the display on the screen. Figure 5 schematically shows the components of a device adapted to implement the described method. The on-board computer 100 includes a processing unit 120 having read and write access to a memory 130. The memory stores the instructions necessary to implement the method. The instructions correspond to the computer program that implements the process. The processing unit 130 is connected to the touch screen 110. The touch screen 110 serves both to detect the input touches to the unit 130 and to display graphic interfaces at the output of the unit 130. The description given shows that an on-board computer configured to implement the method according to the invention makes it possible to increase the ergonomics of use of the human-computer interface. At the same time, the safety of a vehicle equipped with a computer according to the invention is increased. The driver is not necessarily distracted by the display of a touch screen, and the physical controls of the on-board computer become superfluous.
