The present invention relates to a method of controlling an electronic assembly and such an electronic assembly. There are telephone sets including a wireless terminal and a base for the electrical recharging of the terminal. The terminal includes an electronic unit connected to a screen, a battery and a first connector portion. The electronic unit comprises a control unit, a memory, an inertial sensor and a charging circuit of the battery. The base has a second connector portion connectable to the first connector portion and connected to a power cable. In these assemblies, the base is arranged to cooperate with the terminal so as to maintain the terminal in a predetermined position when the two connector parts are connected to each other. An object of the invention is to allow the terminal resting on its base to perform certain functions requiring a display so as to present information to a user. One could have provided on the base a relief cooperating with a dedicated switch carried by the terminal. This, however, requires a review of the design of bases and terminals: the implementation of these new display functions would be prohibited on current terminals. Magnetic detection is also possible but has the same disadvantages as mechanical detection.
One could also consider to detect the charging current in the charging circuit. This solution would have the advantage of requiring only a software modification to allow its implementation on existing terminals. However, on the current terminals, it is possible to directly connect the terminal to a dedicated power cable. In this case, a display would not be of great interest because the terminal is then generally placed flat on a support either with the screen facing upwards, reducing its visibility by the user, or worse, downwards, the completely masking the eyes of the user. The display in these conditions could even be considered harmful because the screen is a big consumer of energy so that the display would lengthen the time required for the complete recharging of the battery. The base can also be arranged to connect, to the terminal being charged, peripherals such as a printer. It is therefore possible to detect that the terminal is on the base when the device is detected. This assumes, however, that the device is turned on. According to the invention, there is provided a method of controlling an electronic assembly comprising a wireless apparatus and an electric charging base which is arranged to maintain the apparatus in a predetermined position when the unit is charging on the base. The method comprises the steps of: - detecting charging of the battery, - determining a position data of the apparatus by means of a device for detecting an inclination of the apparatus, - checking that the data of determined position is similar to a reference position data stored in memory, and - to control a display action on the screen of the apparatus when the verification is positive. Thus, the display action is controlled only when the battery is charging and the device is in a position corresponding to the home position of the device on the base. It is therefore likely under these conditions that the device is actually on the base, the displayed information is then optimally visible by a user. The invention also relates to an electronic assembly comprising a wireless apparatus and an electric charging base, the apparatus comprising a control unit programmed to implement the method. In a preferred application, the device is a wireless telephone terminal. The terminal includes an electronic unit connected to a screen, a battery and a first connector portion. The electronic unit comprises the control unit, a memory, an inertial sensor and a charging circuit of the battery. The base has a second connector portion connectable to the first connector portion and connected to a power cable. The base is arranged to cooperate with the terminal so as to maintain the terminal in a predetermined position when the two connector parts are connected to each other. Other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent on reading the following description of a particular non-limiting embodiment of the invention. 1 is a perspective view of an assembly according to the invention, the terminal resting on its base, FIG. 3 is a schematic view in perspective and in transparency of the terminal, FIG. 4 is a block diagram illustrating the method of the invention. With reference to FIGS. 1 to 3, the telephone set according to the invention comprises a wireless terminal, generally designated 100, and an electric charging base generally designated 200. The terminal 100 comprises an outer shell 101 (shown as transparent). containing an electronic unit 102 connected to a screen 103 (shown as transparent), to a loudspeaker 104, to a microphone 105, to a battery 106 and to a first connector portion 151 opening out of the lower part of the 101. The screen 103 is visible through an opening in the shell 101, as the speaker 104 and the microphone 105 are mounted behind openings in the shell 101. The battery 106 is received in a housing of the hull 101 which is closed by a removable cover. This arrangement is known in itself. The electronic unit 102 comprises a programmable control unit 107, a memory 108 containing in particular programs and data, an inertial sensor 109 and a charging circuit 110 of the battery 106. The inertial sensor 109 is for example an accelerometer of the type MEMS connected to the control unit 107 by a series type bus (for example I2C or SPI). Such an accelerometer has a low power consumption and can communicate with the control unit 107 even though the control unit 107 is in a standby mode. The control unit 107 is arranged to execute a program which is contained in the memory 108 and which is arranged to derive from the signals provided by the inertial sensor 109 an inclination of the terminal 100 with respect to the direction of the gravitation.
The first transmission / reception module 111 operates according to a DECT (digital enhanced cordless telecommunication) protocol, which is a telephony standard operating between the frequencies 1880 MHz and 1900 MHz. . The second transmission / reception module 112 operates according to a Wi-Fi type protocol (wireless communication according to the IEEE 802.11 standard in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency band). The base 200 comprises a base 201 having an open housing 202 at the bottom of which opens a second connector portion 152 connectable to the first connector portion 151 and connected to a power cable 204. The open housing 202 is arranged to receive the part lower end of the terminal 100 so as to maintain the terminal 100 in a predetermined position when the two connector portions 151, 152 are connected to each other. In this case, in the predetermined position, the terminal 100 has its back resting against a surface 203 of the housing 202 of the base 201 so that the longitudinal direction of the terminal 100 is inclined rearwardly. The base 200 can only be used for recharging the telephone, the assembly also comprising a transmission base connected to the telephone network and provided with a DECT wireless communication antenna with the terminal, or the base 200 can itself be connected. to the telephone network and equipped with a DECT wireless communication antenna with the terminal. A reference position corresponding to the predetermined position is stored in the memory 108.
The control unit 107 is programmed to implement the method according to the invention. The control method comprises the steps of: - detecting a connection to an external power source (step 1), - controlling the charging of the battery (step 2), - determining a position data of the terminal at by means of an inertial sensor of the terminal (step 3), - checking that the determined position data is similar to a reference position data stored in memory (step 4), and - controlling a display action on a screen of the terminal when the verification is positive (step 5).
Advantageously, the method comprises the steps of waiting a predetermined time and verifying that the terminal has remained stationary for the predetermined time (step 6) before controlling the display action. The display action is interrupted by the control unit 107 if a movement of the terminal 100 is detected by the inertial sensor 109 (step 7). The display action may comprise: - the display of at least one image stored in the terminal, - the display of at least one timestamp data periodically updated, - the display of at least one alert in relation to a data transmitted to the terminal from a telecommunication network to which the terminal is connected.
In the first case, the terminal 100 is used as a photographic frame, the control unit 107 is arranged to search the memory 108 for images, for example digital photographs extracted from a dedicated storage directory, and for the display successively in the manner of a slide show.
In the second case, the terminal 100 has a clock function giving for example the hour, the minutes, the day, the month, the year ... In the third case, the control unit 7 is arranged to connect to the Internet over Wifi and poll an e-mail server so that an alert can be emitted when a new message is received. When the control unit 7 determines that the battery is charging but that the telephone terminal is not in the predetermined position or that the telephone terminal is in the predetermined position but the battery is not in the process of load, the control unit 7 does not control the display action. It is the same when the terminal is moved from the predetermined position before the end of the predetermined time. Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments described but encompasses any variant within the scope of the invention as defined by the claims. In particular, the assembly according to the invention may comprise several terminals and several bases, or several terminals and a single base.
It is possible to provide the display of a menu by the control unit 7 to give the user a choice between different types of display actions when the terminal is on its base. The control unit 107 of the terminal 100 is for example arranged to connect to the Internet by Wifi and to query a weather server so as to display in real time a meteorological bulletin in the form of a pictogram and alphanumeric data such as temperature, speed and the direction of the wind. The control unit 107 of the terminal 100 is also for example arranged to issue an alert when a degradation of time is announced on the mail server. The invention is applicable to other types of electronic assembly and in particular to photographic frames, multimedia tablets. The inclination measuring device is for example an inertial sensor, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, of electronic or mechanical type.
