Abstract
Description
WITH ACOUSTIC RESONATOR Motor vehicle wheel with acoustic resonator the wheel comprising a rim and a tire defining with the rim a circumferential cavity, the acoustic resonator being positioned at the bottom of the rim, adapted to reduce the amplitude or to eliminate a natural resonance of said cavity. The effects caused by the acoustic resonance of the air contained in a tire are well known. For example, the first mode of resonance of a cavity is a well-known phenomenon, but its attenuation and its suppression always cause many difficulties. The natural frequency, or resonant frequency, of a wheel is directly a function of its circumference. The wavelength thus corresponds to the circumference of the wheel. A larger wheel implies a longer wavelength, so a lower natural frequency. As an example, note that a wheel with a diameter of 15 "has a natural frequency of approximately 230 Hz. The acoustic energy due to the resonance frequency is mainly transmitted by a communication system using conduction. mechanical vibration (solid listening) This propagation mode implies that the vibrations caused by the air in the presence of a cavity of the tire are transmitted to the wheel, then to the support and transmission members to finally end up in the passenger compartment. , where the occupants are subjected to the transmitted noise A means to attempt to remedy this situation is known from US 2006/0113018 A1 This document describes a vehicle wheel with acoustic resonator as described above. at the bottom of the rim inside the volume defined by the rim and the tire. This acoustic resonator presents at the same time the function of a support of safety preventing the crown of the tire from coming into contact with the rim during a low pressure or even zero pressure bearing, for example due to a puncture. Such a safety support device / acoustic resonator attached to the rim greatly hinders the assembly / disassembly of the tire on the rim, or involves specific wheels. It is the object of the present invention to overcome these disadvantages by presenting a vehicle wheel with acoustic resonators whose presence of at least one acoustic resonator does not disturb the assembly / disassembly of the tire on the rim. At the same time, the proposal must be applicable on a standard, non-specific wheel. For this purpose, according to the present invention there is provided a motor vehicle wheel with acoustic resonator, the wheel comprising a rim and a tire defining with the rim a circumferential cavity, the acoustic resonator being positioned at the bottom of the rim to reduce the amplitude or suppress a natural resonance of said cavity, wherein the resonator comprises a base attached to the bottom of the rim and a vertex pierced with at least one hole, the base and the top being connected to each other by means of side walls adapted to extend under the effect of a centrifugal force created during a rolling phase of said wheel. Preferably the side walls form bellows. According to a preferred embodiment the prestressing of the side walls is created by at least one return spring interposed between the base and the top, said spring being able to be integrated in at least one of the side walls. Alternatively, the material of the sidewalls is elastic, creating a return spring force.
According to another embodiment, a plurality of resonators is regularly distributed over the circumference of the bottom of the rim. According to this embodiment the resonators are interconnected by elastic means so as to create a circumferential restoring force. Preferably, the size of each acoustic resonator is chosen such that it allows a wedging around a determined frequency, each acoustic resonator may have the same dimensioning or different dimensioning to cover different frequencies determined. According to a preferred embodiment, the frequency is between 190 and 240 Hz. According to one variant, the apex of at least one resonator is flexible, deploying under the effect of the centrifugal force to increase the volume of the resonator and thus lower its frequency setting according to the speed. According to another variant, the base or an intermediate face of at least one resonator is flexible in order to reduce the volume of the resonator under the effect of the centrifugal force generated by the speed to automatically accompany the increase in the frequency of the second natural resonance mode of the tire cavity with velocity. The resonators may be Helmholtz resonators or alternatively they may be quarter-wave type resonators. This invention further relates to a motor vehicle having a wheel of the type described above. Other features and advantages of the invention will appear on reading an exemplary embodiment of a vehicle wheel with acoustic resonator, given in a non-limiting manner, with reference to the appended figures, in which: FIG. . 1 illustrates a cross-sectional view of a wheel according to the invention comprising a resonator in position at the stop of the wheel; FIG. 2 illustrates a partial longitudinal sectional view of the wheel shown in FIG. 1; FIG. 3 illustrates a cross-sectional view of the wheel shown in FIG. 1 when the vehicle is moving; FIG. 4 shows a longitudinal sectional view of the wheel according to FIG. 3 when the vehicle is moving; and - FIG. 5 shows several examples of combinations of several resonators mounted on the rim of a wheel of a vehicle.
A tire 1 is mounted on a rim 2 defining with the rim a circumferential cavity. The rim 2 includes a bottom with a lowered portion as in most standard rims currently on the market. This lowered part forms a groove 9 in which a plurality of acoustic resonators 3 are housed. These acoustic resonators 3 according to the invention have, at the stop of the wheel, a shape that is rather flat so that their top 5 (see FIG. can exceed an imaginary line connecting the front end of the beads 11 of the tire 1. Thus, the assembly / disassembly of the tire 1 on the rim 2 is not affected by the presence of the acoustic resonators 3. As can be seen in FIG. . 2 which shows a longitudinal cross section of an acoustic resonator 3 in the off position, the resonator 3 comprises a base 4 fixed on the upper surface of the bottom of the rim 2. The resonator 3 also comprises a top 5 provided a hole equipped with a calibration tube 7. The base 4 and the top 5 are connected to each other by bellows-shaped side walls 6 incorporating a return spring (not shown). These bellows-like side walls 6 undergo prestressing which folds the resonator into the bottom of the groove 9 of the rim 2. According to a preferred embodiment, the spring (s) is (are) spiral springs embedded in the bellows 6.
It is also possible to use for the side walls a flexible material, bent in the form of bellows and undergoing a prestress due to its elasticity. Alternatively, the apex 5 and the base 4 may be connected to each other by a tension spring arranged near the middle of the acoustic resonator 3. FIG. 3 essentially shows the same cross-sectional view of a wheel according to the invention as in FIG. 1 when the vehicle is moving. The vehicle wheel then rotates and undergoes a centrifugal force created during this rolling phase. Under the effect of this centrifugal force, the top 20 of the resonator 3 deviates from the base 4 by expanding the bellows-shaped side walls 6. The acoustic resonators 3 then take their nominal form and have a determined internal volume and stalled to attenuate natural frequencies or selected resonances. It is possible to calibrate each of the resonators slightly, typically between 190 and 240 Hz, in order to have good robustness with respect to the frequencies that are to be attenuated. These resonators are typically Helmholtz resonators.
According to an exemplary embodiment of the invention, they have the following dimensions: a base about 20 mm wide to be housed in the bottom of a groove 9 of the rim profile 2, 60 mm long on the circumference of the rim 2. Their top 5 has the same dimension 5 as the base and is pierced with a hole on which opens from inside a small tube 7 of calibration 3 mm in diameter and 5 mm in height. Between the base 4 and the top 5 a bellows 6 is folded to a stop about 10 mm in height, thus remaining in the bottom of the groove 9 of the rim profile 2, held by small springs (not shown in FIGS. figures) which can be integrated in the bellows 6, but unfold when the wheel rotates. For example, when the acceleration creates a centrifugal force reaching exactly 50g from 60km / h and up to about 450g at 180 km / h, the resonators reach about 50 mm in height.
These dimensions of an example of a resonator according to the invention allow a setting of the resonator around 210 Hz approximately. It is preferable to use the resonators in pairs, opposed two by two with respect to the center of the wheel, so as not to induce unbalance imbalance on the wheel.
Examples of distribution of the resonators 3 on the rim 2 are shown in FIG. 5. The examples show the arrangement of two, four or eight resonators on the circumference of the rim 2. According to a modified embodiment, the top 5 is flexible and by a bending of said peak resulting from the centrifugal force created during a rolling phase, the internal volume of the resonator is increased and its frequency setting is lowered slightly. Thus, the resonator 3 automatically follows the lowering of the frequency of the first natural resonance mode of the tire cavity with the speed. According to another embodiment, it is likewise possible, in another resonator, to imagine using the bending of the base 4 or of an intermediate face not shown while keeping the rigid top, in order to reduce the volume of the resonator under the effect of the centrifugal force generated by the speed and thus automatically accompany the increase of the frequency of the second natural resonance mode of the tire cavity 1 with the speed. According to one variant, the resonator may be of the quarter-wave type, instead of being of the Helmholtz type. Rather than using tension springs arranged radially with respect to the wheel, it is conceivable to use circumferentially arranged springs which connect, for example, the apices 5 of a plurality of resonators 3. FIG. 4 shows a longitudinal section of the wheel of a vehicle according to FIG. 3 when the vehicle is moving. The resonator 3 has taken its nominal volume under the effect of the centrifugal force which does not constitute an inconvenience in this operating state. When the wheel is stopped or even disassembled, for example for the change of tires, the resonator is housed in a flattened position in the groove 9 in the rim 2 which does not interfere with the disassembly / mounting of the tire.
