Abstract
Description
OF THE INVENTION The field of the invention is that of display systems comprising a plurality of flat screens and; in particular that of display systems used in aircraft cockpits.
In many applications, especially for large displays, the images are presented on a set of screens placed side by side. This solution has the advantage of producing large image areas from elementary display modules. Thus, Figure 1 shows an aircraft cockpit with four large LCD flat screens forming a T. These screens are, for example, liquid crystal screens. A large image, for example a cartographic representation, can be represented continuously on the four screens and covers the entire width of the cockpit. The disadvantage of the system, as seen in Figure 1, is that for both mechanical and electronic problems, the display area of each screen does not cover the entire surface of the screen. Thus, the display system has inactive borders between the screens that block the image. Several technical solutions exist to correct this problem.
A first solution described in patent US 6927908 entitled "Visual display screen arrangement" consists in placing above each screen an optical plate whose curved edges form an image of the viewing surface of larger size, thus masking the edges of the screen. the screen. It is understandable that this local effect of enlargement can not give a perfect image. A second solution is to replace the display screens with projected images from overhead projection devices. We can then perfectly correct the edge effects between the different projected images but at the cost of a more cumbersome technical solution whose implementation can cause problems in a cockpit. This system may have drifts over time due to environmental conditions that degrade the perfect juxtaposition of images. A third solution is to cut the screens so that the mechanical borders disappear. This technology requires the use of very specific screen technology and necessarily weakens the screens. Finally, the most common solution to this problem is to use screens with reduced mechanical edge. It is thus possible to produce liquid crystal screens whose distance separating the display surface from the edge of the screen does not exceed four millimeters. Nevertheless, even with screens of this type, the dead zone separating two adjacent screens has a width of eight millimeters, which remains high insofar as, in a cockpit unlike other applications, the pilots are very close viewing screens. The device according to the invention solves this problem of inter-screen dead zones. Visual continuity is provided between two display screens arranged side by side by adding an active linear display area whose control is a weighting of the luminance and colorimetric information of these two adjacent screens. More specifically, the subject of the invention is a display device intended to be used as a device for juxtaposing two display screens arranged side by side, characterized in that the said display device comprises at least: first means of displaying analysis of at least a first analysis zone of a first image coming from the first display screen, said first analysis means making it possible to determine at least a first photometric and colorimetric parameter representative of the first analysis zone of the first image; second means for analyzing at least one first analysis zone of a second image derived from the second display screen, said second analysis means making it possible to determine at least one second photometric and colorimetric parameter representative of the first zone of analysis of the second image; means for weighting the first and the second photometric and colorimetric parameter making it possible to determine a mean photometric and colorimetric parameter; - A linear display comprising a display area whose luminance and colorimetry is representative of said average photometric and colorimetric parameter. Advantageously, the device comprises the following provisions: the first analysis means are arranged to analyze a first plurality of analysis zones of a first image resulting from the first display screen making it possible to determine a first plurality of photometric and colorimetric parameters; each parameter being representative of an area of the first image; the second analysis means are arranged to analyze a second plurality of analysis zones of a second image from the second display screen for determining a second plurality of photometric and colorimetric parameters, each parameter being representative of a zone; the second image; the weighting means of the first and second photometric and colorimetric parameters makes it possible to determine a third plurality of average photometric and colorimetric parameters, each average parameter being associated with a first and a second parameter; the linear display comprises a plurality of display zones, the luminance and the colorimetry of each zone being representative of a photometric and average colorimetric parameter. Advantageously, the display device comprises at least a first image memory storing the data of a first image from the first display screen and a second image memory storing the data of a second image from the second display screen. .
Advantageously, the weighting law applied by the weighting means is a linear law or a logarithmic law. Advantageously, the linear display comprises a plurality of colored light-emitting diodes and / or a light guide whose function is to distribute the light coming from the colored light-emitting diodes homogeneously in a predetermined display zone. The invention also relates to a display system comprising at least two display screens arranged side by side, the display surface of the first screen being separated from the display surface of the second screen by a dead zone, the system comprising a viewing device as previously defined, characterized in that: - the display device is arranged on the dead zone so as to completely cover it; The first image is displayed on the first screen, the second image is displayed on the second screen; the different zones of analysis are contiguous to the dead zone; the weighting is carried out on two zones of analysis arranged in opposite vis-à-vis. Advantageously, this visualization system is an aircraft dashboard display system. The invention will be better understood and other advantages will become apparent on reading the description which will follow given by way of non-limiting example and by virtue of the appended figures in which: FIG. 1 already described represents a display system according to the prior art comprising four display screens; FIG. 2 represents the general block diagram of a display device according to the invention; Figure 3 shows a display device according to the invention comprising a single display area; FIG. 4 represents a display device according to the invention comprising a plurality of display zones; FIG. 5 represents a sectional view of a display system according to the invention comprising two screens and a linear display.
The display device according to the invention is intended to be used as a device for juxtaposing two display screens arranged side by side. This device is intended to reduce the visibility of the area separating the two screens also called dead zone by introducing an active light bar disposed in this dead zone and whose luminance and chromaticity are activated according to the content of the images of each screen.
By way of example, a block diagram of a display device according to the invention is represented in FIG. 2. This device comprises: electronic means comprising: a first image memory and a second image memory; first means for analyzing at least a first analysis zone ZAii of a first image derived from the first image memory. These first analysis means make it possible to determine at least a first photometric and colorimetric parameter Pm representative of the first analysis zone ZAii of the first image; second means for analyzing at least one first analysis zone ZAi2 of a second image 12 issuing from the second image memory. Like the previous ones, these second analysis means make it possible to determine at least one second photometric and colorimetric parameter Pi2 representative of the first analysis zone ZAi2 of the second image; o weighting means of the first and second photometric and colorimetric parameter for determining an average photometric and colorimetric parameter Pim; A linear display AL comprising a display area ZLi whose luminance and colorimetry are representative of said average photometric and colorimetric parameter. As non-limiting examples, FIGS. 3, 4 and 5 represent views of a system. display unit comprising two LCD1 and LCD2 display screens arranged side by side and a linear display AL according to the invention. Only the part of the system comprising the linear display AL is represented in these three figures, the electronic means of calculation and control are not represented. In these figures, the analysis zones ZAii and ZAi2 are represented in gray. The analysis zones are, of course, chosen contiguous to the dead zone ZM separating the two display screens.
Figures 3 and 4 are top views of the system and Figure 5 is a perspective view. The linear display AL, as seen in the various figures, has substantially the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped of low thickness e whose length L is equal to one of the two dimensions of the display screens and whose width I is equal to the width of the dead zone separating the two display zones of the LCD1 and LCD2 screens. The thickness e of the display must be as small as possible so as not to introduce excessive thickness. With current technologies, it is possible to obtain a thickness less than or equal to one millimeter.
The linear display comprises one or more light sources whose luminance and chromaticity can be varied. LED light-emitting diode or OLED organic light-emitting diodes are ideally suited. It may also include optical devices GL light guide type to distribute, guide or homogenize the light from the LEDs. There are two possible variants of the display device according to the invention. In a first variant illustrated in FIG. 3, the linear display comprises only one single display zone ZL. In a second variant illustrated in FIG. 4, the linear display comprises a plurality of successive display zones ZL 1, generally all of the same size and arranged one after the other as can be seen in FIG.
The analysis zones ZAii and ZAi2 have a width corresponding to about 10% of the width of the LCD screens, and LCD2. This width can be adjusted according to the observation conditions of the screens and in particular the observation distance. It is also possible to choose ZAii and ZAi2 analysis zones occupying all the LCD1 and LCD2 screens. In this case, of course, the use of image memories is no longer necessary. The analysis means perform a first photochromatic weighting of the data on the columns or on the lines of each analysis zone ZA; selected to determine a photometric and colorimetric parameter Pi representative of this analysis zone ZAi. It should be noted that the image memories are not necessarily necessary to achieve this weighting. It is also possible to combine "on the fly" information from, for example, lines belonging to each analysis zone ZAi. The weighting means apply a weighting law with two photometric and colorimetric parameters Pm and P12 corresponding to two analysis zones ZAii and ZAi2 disposed opposite the dead zone. The photometric and average colorimetric parameter Pim resulting from the weighting law can be, as a first example, bi-linear. We have then: Pim = a (Pii + Pi2) .f (D) 25a being an inter-zone weighting coefficient which is by default 0.5 - f (D) is a weighting function, depending, for example, on the observation distance D and / or the width of the zone separating the two screens. It is 1 by default. The photometric and average colorimetric parameter Pim resulting from the weighting law may be, as a second example, bi-logarithmic. We have then: Pim = a.log (Pii + Pi2) .f (D) with the same notations as previously.
A control electronics then applies one or more control voltage series to the linear display illumination sources proportional to the various calculated Pim parameters.
This device is particularly suitable for screens with a low viewing area such as control screens or aircraft dashboards.
