Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for mounting an armrest on a seat of a motor vehicle. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Generally, an armrest can move between a first functional position for which it is found substantially horizontal, and a second retracted position for which it is folded against the seat back. According to certain mounting configurations, the armrest can also come to occupy a multiplicity of intermediate positions between the functional position and the retracted position, so as to increase the comfort conditions of the person sitting on the seat. The invention relates to an improved mounting device for a multi-position armrest. To understand the invention, it should be noted that a functional position of the armrest is a substantially horizontal position relative to a seat placed in a motor vehicle, and that a retracted position is a substantially vertical position, aligned with the folder. Although an intermediate position may also be functional, this qualifier "functional" will not be attributed to it, so as not to introduce confusion between the previously defined functional position and said intermediate position. The devices for mounting an armrest on a motor vehicle seat exist and have already been the subject of patents. One can, for example, mention patent FR2791305, which describes a motor vehicle seat provided with a rotary armrest with angular adjustment. The method of mounting this armrest on the seat involves a plurality of parts, such as a rigid adjustment rod, control means for adjusting the position of said rod, a flange, a wing and a locking element of the seat. 'armrest. The mechanism of movement of this armrest remains complex due in particular to the multiplicity of parts interacting with each other. The patent FR2880847 relates to a motor vehicle seat armrest system for optimizing the comfort of the user, by providing an angular adjustment of said armrest in an angular range of use positions, typically of the order of 20 °. Like the invention described in the previous patent, the mechanism managing the rotation of the armrest is also made complex because of the large number of parts involved in the mechanism and associated interactions.
A mounting device according to the invention, allowing an armrest to occupy a multiplicity of positions, involves a small number of small parts. Therefore, the operating mechanism resulting from such a mounting device is simplified, and therefore appears safer. A mounting device according to the invention is also compact, and can easily be installed on a vehicle seat, without increasing the dimensions of said seat. Because of its structural simplicity, and its small size, a device for mounting an armrest according to the invention is perfectly suited to a vehicle seat. The invention relates to a device for mounting an armrest on a vehicle seat, said armrest being able to occupy a first substantially horizontal functional position and a second substantially vertical retracted position, as well as a multiplicity of intermediate positions located between said first and second positions. The main technical characteristic of a mounting device according to the invention is that it comprises a housing having an orifice, a toothed wheel, and a locking member, said wheel being inserted into said orifice, an axis of rotation. the armrest being introduced into said wheel by solidarisant thereof, and the locking member being mounted on the housing to cooperate with the toothed wheel and freeze the armrest in an intermediate position. It is a purified mechanism involving only a notched wheel and a locking member. The toothed wheel has at least partially on its outer surface and circular, a series of teeth, or contiguous to each other leaving a small gap between them or being spaced apart from each other. When the armrest is moved in rotation to occupy a given inclination position, it rotates the toothed wheel. The main function of the locking member is to occupy a gap between two teeth, in order to fix the armrest in a given intermediate position, characterized by its angle of inclination. Advantageously, the toothed wheel has a peripheral orifice, the axis of rotation having an indexing finger, said axis being inserted into the wheel so that the indexing finger passes through said orifice. The indexing finger makes it possible to secure the axis of rotation of the armrest to the toothed wheel, by positioning itself in the peripheral orifice of the wheel. The rotation of the armrest simultaneously causes the rotation of the toothed wheel. Preferably, the toothed wheel has on its outer surface a series of teeth, the locking member having a hook-shaped end, said member being pivotally mounted on said housing so that its hook-shaped end can come to contact of the notched part of the wheel. The locking member, although interacting closely with the toothed wheel to freeze the armrest in a given position, should not impede the rotation of said wheel when the armrest pivots. The hook-shaped end is shaped to ideally occupy the interstices between the teeth. The objective of the blocking member is therefore to be housed, with a certain force, in a gap between two teeth, in order to fix the armrest in a particular position, while allowing the wheel and therefore the armrest, swivel effortlessly. Advantageously, the axis of rotation of the locking member is parallel to the axis of rotation of the axis of the armrest, the hooked end of the member being pushed against the toothed wheel by means of a prestressed element. It is necessary that the locking member exerts a certain pressure on the toothed wheel, in order to hold the armrest in a given position. This pressure is provided by a prestressed added member, cooperating with the locking member, or can be provided by the locking member itself, being made of a material having elastic deformation capabilities. When the armrest is mounted on the seat, the locking member is deflected by default against the toothed wheel.
Preferably, the teeth are inclined in the same direction on the toothed wheel, with respect to radial axes of said wheel. In this way, the interaction of the hooked end of the locking member with said teeth will allow rotation of the armrest in one direction, but will prevent its rotation in the opposite direction. Indeed, this asymmetry in the teeth is provided to allow a unilateral movement of the armrest. Advantageously, the mounting device comprises a truncated wheel having two ends and a narrowed central zone, said wheel being placed parallel to the toothed wheel in the casing orifice, said truncated wheel serving to mask the teeth of the toothed wheel to the locking member during certain phases of movement of the armrest. This truncated wheel is in particular configured to prevent the locking member from bearing against the teeth of the toothed wheel, during the phase of movement of the armrest from its retracted position to its functional position. Indeed, the orientation of the teeth may be asymmetrical with respect to a radial axis of the wheel on which they are located, the return of the armrest to its functional position may be impossible because of the locking member which would come into contact with said teeth. The truncated wheel then replaces the toothed wheel vis-à-vis the locking member to allow this return. The term "truncated" applied to the wheel means that said wheel has been amputated by a portion, so that it is no longer shaped 360 °, but on a lower angle. More generally, this truncated wheel has a horseshoe shape having two ends. The narrowed central zone makes it possible to emerge the teeth of the notched wheel so that the locking member cooperates with it, to search for a particular intermediate position of the armrest. Preferably, the indexing finger causes the rotation of the two wheels, so that the locking member cooperates with the toothed wheel when the armrest is moved from its operative position to its retracted position, and so as to the truncated wheel ends up masking the teeth of the toothed wheel vis-à-vis the locking member when the armrest is in its retracted position. The indexing finger of the axis of rotation of the armrest, which is also housed in the orifice of the toothed wheel, is made to cooperate with the ends of the truncated wheel to rotate said truncated wheel. Thus, the axis of rotation of the armrest will cause the rotation of the toothed wheel and the truncated wheel, with an offset kinematics, so that the truncated wheel masks the teeth of the toothed wheel vis-à-vis of the locking member, when the armrest is in its retracted position. It is therefore important that the two wheels are well positioned in the housing, so as to cooperate optimally during the various phases of movement of the armrest. Advantageously, the truncated wheel and the gear wheel have approximately the same dimensions. Preferably, the mounting device comprises a protective piece adapted to fit into the housing to protect the interaction between the axis of rotation of the armrest and the two wheels, as well as the interaction between the body of the armrest. blocking and said wheels. This protection piece is a closure piece to protect the articulation of the armrest on the seat, including ensuring a certain tightness. Advantageously, the mounting device comprises a retaining pin allowing the armrest to remain in contact with the housing, once it has been mounted on said housing. The mounting devices according to the invention, for attaching an armrest to a vehicle seat, have the advantage of involving small interface parts and having a basic geometry. This results in ease and speed of manufacture, and therefore associated costs that will be reduced. They also have the advantage of implementing a mechanism for moving the armrest in rotation, which is simple, making it safer and more reliable.

Juste avant la fin de la course de l'accoudoir 1, l'extrémité crochetée 16 de l'organe de blocage 6 sort progressivement de la zone rétrécie 19 de la roue tronquée 4 pour venir en appui contre la surface extérieure de ladite roue tronquée 4, et non plus contre les dents 17 de la roue crantée 5.Referring to Figure 2, the axis 7 allowing the locking member 6 to pivot in the housing 2 is located in the recess 10 of said housing 2 in a direction parallel to the axis of the orifice 11, allowing said locking member 6 to pivot in a plane parallel to the main wall 9. The two wheels 4,5 are mounted in the recess 10 of the casing 2, at the orifice 11, being superposed one on the other and so as to reduce the diameter of said orifice 11. The locking member 6 is mounted in the housing 2 so that its hooked end 16 can come into contact with the outer surface of the two wheels 4 contiguous the one to another. A prestressed member, not visible in the figures, is shaped to push, by default, said hooked end 16 towards said wheels 4,5. Referring to Figure 3, the armrest 1 comprises an elongated bar 20, one end of which supports an axis of rotation 21, which is perpendicular to said bar 20. This axis of rotation 21 comprises an enlarged cylindrical body 22 extended by a cylindrical tip 23 of smaller diameter, said body 22 and said tip 23 being concentric. An indexing finger 24 originating at one end of the body 22, extends parallel to the tip 23 remaining outside thereof, said indexing finger 24 being parallel to the axis of revolution of said tip 23. The axis of rotation 21 of the armrest 1 is placed in the two wheels 4,5 positioned in the casing 2, so that the indexing finger 24 passes into the peripheral notch 18 of the toothed wheel 5, thereby securing said wheel 5 to said axis 21 of rotation of the armrest 1. In other words, a rotation of the armrest 1 about its axis of rotation 10 simultaneously causes the rotation of the toothed wheel 5 with the same amplitude. Referring to Figures 4a and 4b, when the armrest 1 is in a functional position corresponding to a substantially horizontal position, the hooked end 16 of the locking member 6 is positioned at the narrowing 19 of the truncated wheel 4, and can therefore come into contact with the teeth 17 of the toothed wheel 5. When the armrest 1 is rotated from this position to its retracted position, as indicated by the arrow 30, the toothed wheel 5 rotates simultaneously with said armrest 1 through the indexing finger 24, while the truncated wheel 4 remains stationary. The indexing finger 24 can at any time fix the armrest 1 in an intermediate position by inserting its hooked end 16 between two teeth 17. Referring to Figures 5a and 5b, when the rotation of the armrest 1 continues in the same direction, as shown by the arrow 31, the indexing finger 24 inserted in the notch 18 of the toothed wheel 5, eventually comes into contact with one end of the truncated wheel 4 which pivots simultaneously with 5. Just before the end of the travel of the armrest 1, the hooked end 16 of the locking member 6 progressively leaves the narrowed zone 19 of the truncated wheel 4 to bear against the outer surface. of said truncated wheel 4, and no longer against the teeth 17 of the toothed wheel 5.
La roue tronquée 4 suit par inertie le doigt d'indexage 24 pour revenir à sa position initiale.25Referring to FIGS. 6a and 6b, once the armrest 1 has reached its retracted position, the truncated wheel 4 completely masks the teeth 17 of the toothed wheel 5 vis-à-vis the locking member 6, which No more mechanical interaction with said toothed wheel 5. With reference to FIGS. 7a and 7b, the armrest 1 can then be moved freely in rotation in the opposite direction, indicated by the arrow 32, to find its initial functional position. since the toothed wheel 5 can no longer oppose this direction of displacement due to the presence of the truncated wheel 4. The truncated wheel 4 follows by inertia the indexing finger 24 to return to its initial position.
