Abstract

The method involves optionally encoding pieces of data file (M1-M5), and distributing the pieces of data file in a set of storage units (U01-U05) in a main site (S01). The pieces of the data file are distributed in another set of storage units that is different from the former set of storage units in a secondary site (S05). Metadata is generated to identify information on the former set of storage units and the latter set of storage units. The pieces of data files are recovered from the main site and the secondary site. An independent claim is also included for a storage infrastructure.
