Abstract

The invention relates to a precise, reliable device for determining the relative speed VA of a mobile body (1) relative to a mass MA of ambient air surrounding the mobile body, said mobile body including a front portion and a rear portion, said mobile body moving forward and being capable of moving at speeds within a large range (at least Mach 0.00 to Mach 0.80), said air mass optionally including gas and/or liquid and/or solids, wherein the relative speed is determined for a moment t, and said device includes two acoustic-wave trains forming an angle of at least 4º and enabling the calculation of the speed of the mobile object and the speed of sound at each moment, regardless of icy or heavy-rain conditions.
