Abstract

The method involves receiving a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) reflectometry signal on a satellite platform after reflection of the signal on an observation surface i.e. oceanic surface. The surface is divided into a set of facets. An image of the surface is segmented into sheets, where each partition of the image corresponds to a side of the surface. Accumulated signal strength backscattered by the facet is associated with each partition during observation period. An image processing step is implemented to isolate one or multiple objects (N) i.e. ship, in the image. An independent claim is also included for a system for detection and localization of an object.
