Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a ground connection element for a vehicle. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION It relates mainly to a ground connection element for a vehicle, especially a motor vehicle, comprising a wheel support comprising a first sheet metal shell having a bore in which is mounted a hub via a wheel bearing.
Such a ground connection element is for example presented in document US 2010/0014798 comprising a first portion and a second portion in the form of shells, assembled together so as to form a hollow body. The first shell is the front part of the wheel pivot against which is positioned a wheel, the second shell constituting the rear part. A central opening is formed in each of the two shells, allowing the mounting of a hub by means of a bearing. The bearing consists of an outer ring and an inner ring between which are positioned balls or rollers. The outer ring is fixedly mounted on the wheel pivot, the inner ring being secured to the hub. In this document, the outer ring is secured to the pivot by fitting and crimping in the central opening of each of the two shells. A sleeve is disposed between the two walls, ensuring during crimping maintaining the spacing between the two shells. Such assembly by crimping does not ensure that the geometry of the wheel bearing remains stable throughout the life of the vehicle.
Small variations in geometry can create premature wear on the bearing, limiting its life. Moreover the presence of the spacer and the use of an outer race of the bearing specially adapted to be crimped, increases the cost of manufacturing such a ground connection element. For this purpose, the invention relates to a ground connection element for a vehicle, in particular a motor vehicle, comprising a wheel support comprising a first sheet-metal shell having a bore, in which a hub is mounted via a wheel bearing, such that the wheel bearing is secured to the first shell by welding. The bore of the first shell comprises a flap forming a collar in which is fitted the wheel bearing.
According to a first variant of the invention, the wheel bearing comprises a plurality of balls or cylinders positioned between an inner ring and an outer ring, the outer ring being made of a low alloy steel such as 100 C6 steel. According to a second variant of the invention, the wheel bearing comprises a multitude of balls or cylinders positioned between an inner ring and an outer ring, the outer ring having a peripheral portion forming a ring made of a low alloy steel such as 100 C6 steel. According to one embodiment of the invention, the wheel support comprises a second sheet-metal shell forming with the first shell a hollow body, the second shell comprising a bore whose inner peripheral surface is in contact with a lateral wall of the outer ring of the wheel bearing, the wheel bearing being secured to the second shell by welding along the contact surface. According to a first variant of this embodiment, the side wall of the outer ring of the wheel bearing, secured by welding with the second shell, is made of a low alloy steel such as 100 C6 steel. According to a second variant of this embodiment, the outer ring of the wheel bearing comprises a lateral portion intended to be secured by welding with the second shell forming a washer made of a low-alloy steel such as steel 100 C6. According to the invention, the welding method used is of the laser type. The first or second shell of the wheel support comprises openings positioned respectively at the periphery of the bore of the first or the second shell, the peripheral openings being intended to allow the passage of a welding nozzle.
The present invention also relates to a wheel bearing according to a first embodiment, intended to be secured by welding in a bore of a wheel support of a ground connection element as described above, comprising a plurality of balls or of cylinders positioned between an inner ring and an outer ring, having a peripheral portion forming a ring made of a low alloy steel such as steel 100 C6. The outer ring may also include a lateral portion forming a washer made of a low alloy steel such as steel 100 C6. The present invention finally relates to a wheel bearing according to a second embodiment, intended to be secured by welding in a bore of a wheel support of a ground connection element as described above, comprising a plurality of balls or of cylinders positioned between an inner ring and an outer ring, said outer ring being made of a low alloy steel such as 100 C6 steel.
Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will appear on reading the detailed description below, of an example of non-limiting implementation, with reference to the appended figures in which: FIG. perspective of a ground connection element constituting a wheel pivot, according to the invention; - Figure 2 shows a detail view of the wheel pivot in a first step of mounting a wheel bearing according to the invention; and FIGS. 3 and 4 show details views of the wheel pivot during the second step of mounting the wheel bearing according to the invention. Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a ground connection element 1, constituting a wheel pivot, according to the invention. The wheel pivot 1 is constituted by a first portion 11 and a second portion 12 in the form of shells, assembled together so as to form a hollow body. The first shell 11 constitutes the front part of the wheel pin against which is positioned a wheel, the second shell 12 constituting the rear portion. In the central zone of the front hull 11 and the rear hull 12 of the wheel pivot 1 is respectively formed a first bore 13 and a second bore 16 (visible only in Figures 3 and 4). The first bore 13 comprises a flap 14 forming a flange serving to support a wheel bearing 2. The bearing 2 is thus fitted into the flange 14 and is secured to the wheel pivot 1 by welding. Such a bearing consists of an outer ring 21 and an inner ring 22 enclosing balls or rollers. The method of welding the bearing 2 to the wheel pivot 1 must be fast enough not to create excessive heating at the outer ring 21, which may deform. Thus, the welding method used is preferably a laser welding process. Such a welding process is not compatible with all the types of steel commonly used for such outer rings 21. One of the steels that can be used is for example the steel 100 C6, a low alloy steel.
In the case where it is desired to use for the outer ring 21 of the bearing 2 a higher alloyed steel, it is necessary to provide during the manufacture of the bearing 2, the introduction of a peripheral ring in a low alloy steel. As explained later, the outer shell 11 has at the periphery of the first bore 13, lateral openings 15. In this view is also visible, through the side openings 15, welding beads 3 for securing the bearing 2 to the outer shell 11. Figure 2 shows a detail view of the wheel pivot 1 during the welding operation of the wheel bearing 2 on the front shell 11. The wheel bearing 2 is previously positioned by fitting into the collar 14 of the first bore 13 of the front shell 11. Seams 3 are formed along the flange 14; a first series of welding beads 3a is formed closest to the junction of the flange 14 with the remainder of the front shell 11, a second bead 3b is formed at the edge of the free end of the flange 14. The Lateral openings 15 allow the laser welding nozzle 4 to pass to form the first set of weld beads 3a. The positioning of the second weld bead 3b is of easier access for the laser welding nozzle 4, not requiring any particular arrangement on the front hull 11.
Figures 3 and 4 show detailed views of the wheel pivot 1 during the welding operation of the rear shell 12 on the wheel bearing 2. In the example shown, the peripheral surface of the second bore 16 of the rear shell 12 is supported plane against a lateral side of the outer ring 21 of the wheel bearing 2. The laser welding nozzle 4 thus traverses the contact surface between the rear shell 12 and the outer ring 21, forming a bead of 3c welding. As previously, such a laser weld avoids excessive heating at the outer ring 21, avoiding deformation and thus change the geometry of the wheel bearing 2.
Such a wheel bearing 2 standard, or at least just adapted for such an assembly, welded directly by laser welds to the wheel pivot 1, allows to obtain both a fast and accurate assembly, reducing the cost of assembly and extending the life of such a wheel bearing 2. Of course the implementation example mentioned above is not limiting in nature and further details and improvements can be made without departing from the scope of the invention. 'invention. Thus, in the example shown the wheel pivot consists of two shells forming a hollow body, but it is also possible to form such a wheel pivot using only one shell, in this case the outer shell 11. The mounting of the wheel bearing 2 on this single outer shell 11 remaining identical to the assembly as previously described.
