Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method and a device for sharing resources. It applies, in particular to the sharing of access to media (for example, audio files, images or video) or to web sites (in English "web"). In known manner, on a connected device, the user selects a remote medium accessible by a network, local or Internet. For quick and easy access later, the user can store their email address in a "favorites" list. However, these "favorites" are currently only accessible by the user of the computer terminal where they are stored. Thus, the same user can not access his favorites from another terminal and can not share his favorites with other users in a community, for example, his family members. The present invention aims to remedy these disadvantages. For this purpose, according to a first aspect, the present invention is a device for sharing resources over a network, which comprises: a digital media service, called a "favorites service", adapted to keep a list of media identifiers and to provide access to the media of this list to digital media controllers or players and - at least one digital media player (or DMP / DMC) for: - to implement provides a user interface for a user to select media and - to cause the favorites service to update the favorite media list to incorporate the selected media.
With these provisions, a user can add a resource access link to a favorite media list accessible by all devices connected to the subnet that have a controller or media player. For example, when a first user finds a professional source of information or an interesting Internet radio, with his radio on the web ("WebRadio"), he simply has to select a function, "Add to shared favorites", for example via a button dedicated to this function. When a second user of the same subnet accesses the list of shared favorites, it sees the new access, placed in this list by the first user, with the other accesses that were previously there. Preferably, the first user chooses a content category that access can reach to associate this category with the selected link. Thus, the second user can more easily identify the type of content that leads the new link. For example, the categories concern audio, video or still images and include sub-categories, for example the musical or cinematographic genre, the event related to still images ... Thus, in the example above, the second user can "play" the media available on the webradio, via a television connected to the subnet, without having to search for the radio itself, even if the connected television does not have service WebRadio. According to particular features, to control the update by the favorites service, the controller or digital media player is adapted: - to detect the service of favorites, - to create a list of favorites comprising a media identifier associated with a electronic identifier to access the selected media and - to download this list to the favorites service. According to particular features, to control the update by the favorites service, the controller or digital media player is adapted: - to detect the favorites service by detecting that the favorites service implements a predetermined service, - to appeal to an add service of the favorites service, by transmitting a media identifier associated with an electronic identifier for accessing the selected media, the adding service adding the selected media to a list of media served by a service of content directory of the favorites service. Note that the two embodiments summarized above are not mutually exclusive but, on the contrary, complementary: having two means to control the updating of the list of favorites would allow greater flexibility of use.
According to particular features, the favorites service and the digital media controller or player implement the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) interoperability standard (Alliance for Digital Living Network).
According to particular characteristics, the favorites service is unique on the network. According to particular features, the favorites service is pre-installed software on a device present only once in the network, said network being a home network.
According to particular characteristics, the favorites service is pre-installed software on an Internet access box. According to particular features, the favorites service is a pre-installed software on a removable memory medium. This type of support is also called, commonly, "dongle".
According to particular characteristics, in the list of favorites, the media are associated with: - a URL ("Uniform Resource Locator") of the media for a media external to the network, - a UDN ("Unique Device Name") of the favorites service and a unique object identifier ("ObjectlD" for UPnP AV) of the media, for a medium served by a DMS. According to a second aspect, the present invention aims at a method of sharing resources, which comprises: a step of implementing a user interface for a user to select a medium, performed by a digital media controller or player ( or DMP / DMC for "Digital Media Player / Digital Media Controler") and - a control step, performed by the controller or digital media player, of update by a digital media service which maintains a list of identifiers of media and gives access to the media of this list to controllers or digital media players, a list of favorite media to incorporate the selected media. Since the advantages, aims and particular characteristics of this method which are the subject of the present invention being similar to those of the device which is the subject of the present invention, as briefly described above, they are not recalled here.
Other advantages, aims and particular features of the present invention will emerge from the description which follows, for an explanatory and non-limiting purpose, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: - Figure 1 shows, schematically, a first mode Specific embodiment of the device according to the present invention, - Figure 2 shows schematically a second particular embodiment of the device object of the present invention and - Figure 3 shows, in the form of a logic diagram, steps implemented. in a particular embodiment of the method that is the subject of the present invention. FIG. 1 shows a digital media server DMS (Digital Media Server) 105, digital media controller DMC (digital media controller) 110 and 115, digital media players DMP (Digital Media Player). 120 and 125 and a network 130 connecting these elements.
The terms "server", "controller" and "reader" are to be understood here in the sense of the DLNA standard, even when another standard is implemented for the communication between the devices connected to the network 130. Thus, any compatible client (TV, stereo, photo frame, mobile phone, set-top box, Internet access box, etc.) forming a reader can retrieve items, or media, on a DLNA server. This server can be installed on a computer, a mobile phone or be a standalone hard disk enclosure. The links of the network 130 may be Ethernet or wireless WiFi ("Wireless Fidelity"). For discovery, control and media management, the UPnP architecture (for "Universal Plug and Play") can be implemented.
The server 105 implements a favorites service 140, an addition service 145, a withdrawal service 150, and a content navigation service 155. The favorites service 140 is a digital media service that maintains a list of identifiers of media. The content navigation service 155 gives access to the media of this list to the controllers and digital media players 110 to 125. The reader 120 and the controller 110 implement a user interface 135 with which a user selects a media to be added or to remove from the shared favorites list and order the update, by one of the services 145 or 150, the list of favorite media to incorporate or remove the selected media.
The readers 120 and 125 and the controllers 110 and 115 implement a user interface 160 with which a user can access the favorites service 140, select a media in the shared favorites list and access the selected media.
In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 1, to control the addition of a medium in the shared favorites list, by the favorites service 140, the digital media controller or player detects the favorites service by detecting that the service of favorites implements a predetermined service and uses the addition service 145 of the favorites service 140, by transmitting a media identifier associated with an electronic identifier for accessing the selected media, the addition service adding the selected media to the list of media served by a content directory service of the favorites service 140. Preferentially, the services 140 and 155 are combined and consist of a standard service for sharing the contents of the server. The known type of DNA thus have access to these services. In other words, adding a media to the shared favorites list causes the following actions: - the DMP / DMC detects the favorite server DMS on the fact that it implements the "Favorite Edition Service" service, - the DMP / DMC calls the "Add" method of the "Favorites" server with the URL of the media to be added and - the media is added to the media served by the "Content Directory Service" service of the favorites server. Thus, in this embodiment, the favorite DMS server has, in addition to the "Content Directory Service" service, a dedicated service "Favorite Edition Service" comprising the "Add" and "Remove" functionalities so that its content can be modified by DLNA readers and control points. Deleting media from the shared favorite media list calls the "Remove" method and passes it the unique object identifier ("ObjectlD" for UPnP AV) of the media to be removed. FIG. 2 shows a DMS (Digital Media Server) 205 digital media server, DMC (Digital Media Controler) 210 and 215 digital media controllers, digital media players DMP ("Digital Media Player"). 220 and 225 and a network 230 connecting these elements.
The server 205 implements a favorites service 240, an add service 245, a withdrawal service 250 and a content navigation service 255. The favorites service 140 is a digital media service that maintains a list of identifiers of media. The content navigation service 255 gives access to the media of this list to the controllers and digital media players 210 to 225. The service 245 is, in the case of the implementation of the UPnP standard, a standard OCM upload service. (acronym for "Optional Content Management"). The service 250 is, in the case of the implementation of the UPnP standard, a standard "delete" OCM service. The reader 220 and the controller 210 implement a user interface 235 with which a user selects a media to be added or removed from the shared favorites list and orders the update, by one of the services 245 or 250, of the list of favorite media to incorporate or remove the selected media.
The readers 220 and 225 and the controllers 210 and 215 implement a user interface 260 with which a user accesses the shared media service, selects a media and accesses it. In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 2, to control the update by the favorites service 240, the digital media controller 210 or the digital media player 220 detects the favorites service, creates a favorites list with an identifier the media associated with an electronic identifier for accessing the selected media and downloads this list to the favorites service 240. In other words, adding a media in the favorites list generates the following actions: - the DMP / DMC detects the favorite server DMS, - the DMP / DMC creates a "playlist" list containing the media URL and - the DMP / DMC uploads ("upload") this playlist to the favorite server DMS.
In the embodiment, the favorite DMS must have the "upload" and "delete" functionalities so that its content can be modified by DLNA readers and control points ("Control Points"). Deleting a media from the shared favorites list uses the "Delete" feature of the DMS.
Preferentially, the favorites services 140 or 240 and the controllers or readers 110 to 125 or 210 to 225 implement the interoperability standard DLNA ("Digital Living Network Alliance" for Alliance for a Digital Living Network).
Preferably, the favorites service 140 or 240 is unique on the network. For example, the favorites service 140 or 240 is software pre-installed on a device present only once in the home network, preferably an Internet access box or a removable memory medium called a "dongle". Note that in the list of favorites, the media are associated with: - a URL ("Uniform Resource Locator") of the media for a media external to the network and - a UDN ("Unique Device Name") of the favorites service and a unique object identifier ("ObjectlD" for UPnP AV) of the media, for a medium served by a DMS. Note that the UDN of the server avoids problems related to identifiers, including addresses, dynamic.
