Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an installation for producing offshore electrical energy from the thermal energy of the seas. More particularly, the invention relates to such an installation which comprises a floating platform on which are embedded means for producing electrical energy from the difference in temperature of the water surface and depth, this platform being associated in in addition to means forming a deep water suction pipe. The operating principle of such an installation known as ETM for "Thermal Energy of the Seas" consists in using the difference in temperature that exists naturally between the water at the surface and in the depths of the oceans to operate a heat engine. Because of the laws of thermodynamics, to have an acceptable yield, the implementation of such ETM facilities is justified only subject to a higher temperature difference for example at 20 ° C.
Typically the water may for example be at a temperature of 25 ° C at the surface and at a temperature of 5 ° C to 1000 meters deep. It is conceivable that this limits the use of such facilities to specific areas such as for example tropical areas. Cold seawater must then be pumped in very deep water through suction line means associated with the platform, while hot seawater is pumped to the surface. Various attempts to develop ETM-based power generation facilities have already been made. For example, attempts were made by Georges CLAUDE in the 1930s. Of course other operators have made other attempts since. But the vast majority of these different attempts have failed because of various problems and in particular problems of mechanical resistance of certain elements of these facilities to the environmental conditions encountered.
It is known that in the geographical areas in which these installations can be installed, particular meteorological conditions may be encountered, such as for example relatively strong marine currents, storms, etc., which causes the degradation or even the rupture of certain parts of the installation.
The object of the invention is therefore to improve this type of installation. To this end, the subject of the invention is an installation for producing offshore electrical energy from the thermal energy of the seas, of the type comprising a floating platform on which electrical energy generation means are embarked from the surface and depth water temperature difference associated with deep water suction pipe means, characterized in that the deep water suction pipe means comprises two parts, the a rigid pipe whose lower end is immersed in great depth and whose upper end is immersed between two waters at reduced depth and the other formed of flexible pipes connecting the upper end of the rigid pipe to the platform. According to other aspects of the invention, the offshore electrical power generation installation comprises one or more of the following characteristics: the upper end of the rigid pipe comprises a manifold for connecting the flexible pipes to this end; of the rigid pipe, the manifold has a flared shape, the upper end of the rigid pipe is associated with means in the form of a buoy in position of the pipe, and the rigid pipe comprises at least one outer rib. in helix.
The invention will be better understood with the aid of the following description given solely by way of example and with reference to the appended drawings, in which: FIG. 1 represents a block diagram illustrating the general structure of a production plant according to the invention, and - Figures 2 and 3 respectively show a side view and top of a manifold used in the constitution of an installation according to the invention. It has indeed been illustrated in these figures and in particular in Figure 1, an offshore electric power generation facility from the thermal energy of the so-called ETM seas. In general, such an installation comprises a floating platform designated by the general reference 1 in this figure, on which are embedded means for producing electrical energy from the difference in temperature of the water surface and depth, these means not forming part of the invention, they will not be described in more detail later. As mentioned above, such an installation requires pumping hot water on the surface or near the surface and cold water at very great depth such as between 600 and 1200 meters deep.
This hot water and this cold water then make it possible to operate means for producing electrical energy from the difference in temperature of these waters. For this purpose, the floating platform forming part of the constitution of the production installation according to the invention is associated with means forming a deep cold water suction pipe. The expression "suction line means" should be understood in the present description as encompassing the use of one or more pipes according to the flows to be ensured, the costs of implementation, etc.
These means are designated by the general reference 2 in this figure and comprise in fact two parts designated respectively by the general references 3 and 4 in this figure 1. One of these parts designated by the general reference 3 is formed of a pipe Rigid designated by the general reference 5, whose lower end is submerged in great depth, for example between 600 and 1200 meters deep and whose upper end is immersed between two waters at reduced depth, for example a few meters or several tens meters, as illustrated. This upper end of this rigid pipe, is then associated with buoy means or support float designated by the general reference 6 in this figure, to maintain this rigid pipe 5 in position and means in the form of collector designated by the general reference 7, for connecting the upper end of the rigid pipe 5 to the platform 1 via a second part of the suction pipe means, this second part being formed of flexible connecting pipes of this end upper of the rigid pipe 5 to the platform 1. One of these flexible pipes is designated by the general reference 8 in this figure. It is then conceivable that such a structure makes it possible to solve a certain number of the problems encountered with the installations of the state of the art, in particular at the junction between the rigid pipe 5 and the floating platform 1. the main causes of the failures encountered in the state of the art during the implementation of installations of this type, is related to the deformation or even the rupture of the junction zone between the rigid pipe and the platform. By using a structure as described in the present application, these problems are solved insofar as the flexible lines make it possible to decouple the rigid pipe 5 and the platform 1 and in particular to decouple the relative movements of these bodies.
The collector 7 is illustrated in greater detail in FIGS. 2 and 3 and is for example in the form of a collector of flared shape whose lower end is associated with the rigid pipe 5 and whose upper end comprises means connection of flexible pipes.
In this case also, the number of flexible pipes and thus the collector are adapted to flow rates, etc. The buoy means 6 can have any suitable structure equipped for example with ballasting means to ensure the function of maintaining the position of the rigid pipe.
Il va de soi bien entendu que différents modes de réalisation encore de cette installation peuvent être envisagés.15 Note also that the outer surface of the rigid pipe 5 may comprise at least one outer rib helix 9 called "anti-vortex", in a conventional manner. It goes without saying of course that different embodiments of this installation can be envisaged.
