Abstract
Description
/5 / 5
The invention consists in a significant improvement of one of the embodiments of the "flat mechanical" keyboard described in the patent EP0805465 and in the patent application INPI 09 05690 This embodiment, shown in FIG. 1, comprises three types of keys: main keys P key on which the user is asked to perform the keystrokes S said secondary that fill the gap between two neighboring major keys and so-called tertiary keys that fill the gap between four neighboring secondary keys. The main keys P, on which the user is invited to perform the keystroke, cause in their downward movement the secondary keys which themselves cause the tertiary keys down. Conversely, when the pressure of the finger is released, the tertiary keys bring up the secondary keys, which themselves bring up the main key.
This keyboard both mechanical and flat has the advantage of offering the finger a flat surface larger than the current keyboards and allow a long session so input without excessive finger fatigue. It allows above all to overcome a capacitive touch layer allowing, with the provisions described in the patent application INPI 09 05690, use of the keyboard in "touchpad" mode. However, it has the disadvantage of causing the existence of a structure of three-layer keys, high, medium and low: the high layer on which the finger strikes, resulting in the middle layer of a secondary key, that- causing the lower layer of a tertiary key. In order for the keyboard to consist of only two layers, the secondary and tertiary keys may be given a non-rectangular shape as in FIG. 2, but such a shape is very unpleasant to the eye and causes a decrease in the total area over which the must can type without causing typo.
Another means of enabling a two-layer structure of the keys of the keyboard is the subject of the present invention, in which the main keys P are able to drive down not only the secondary keys S, but also the tertiary keys. Other features and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the description given by way of illustrative and nonlimiting example, with reference to the appended figures in which: FIG. 1 shows a flat mechanical keyboard according to the patent EP0805465, FIG. 2 shows a structure of the two-layer keyboard whose secondary and tertiary keys are non-rectangular. FIGS. 3A and 3B show a view from above and a bottom view of the keyboard according to the invention. FIGS. 4A, 4B and 4C show in perspective the structure of the main, secondary and tertiary keys according to the present invention. FIG. 5 highlights the contact surfaces between the keys. When the keyboard is at rest, 2955423 2/5 Figure 6 shows in perspective the progressive construction of the pavement consisting of a main key and its eight secondary and tertiary keys.
FIG. 3A shows a view from above of a possible embodiment of the keyboard according to the invention when there is no external tertiary key to this keyboard. The keys, specifically the top layers of each key, are all contiguous with their neighbors. Figure 3B shows a bottom view of the same keyboard: the lower layers of each key are also contiguous to each other, but different sizes of the upper layers. The lower layers of the outer primary and secondary keys are further larger than the lower layers of the inner primary and secondary keys so that they can lean as their outer top layers on the vertical wall surrounding the keyboard.
FIGS. 4A, 4B and 4C show in three dimensions the high and low two-layer structure of the main P, secondary S and tertiary keys T of the keyboard shown in FIGS. 3A and 3B: the upper layer of a main key P is greater in the two horizontal dimensions than its lower layer, the upper layer of a secondary key S is larger in one horizontal dimension than its lower layer and smaller in the other, and finally the upper layer of a tertiary key is smaller in both horizontal dimensions than its lower layer.
FIG. 5 shows a plan view of a main key P of the keyboard according to the invention and of two of its secondary S and tertiary neighbors T. The high layers of these keys are represented in full lines and the lower layers in dashed lines . The SPS contact surface between the P key and the S key appears in horizontal hatching, the SPT contact surface between the P key and the oblique hatched T key and the SST contact surface between the S key and the T key. hatched vertical. The top layer of a main key thus relies on both the lower layer of its secondary and tertiary neighbors and will cause said keys to be down when the main key is depressed, while the top layer of a secondary key. is based on the lower layer of its tertiary neighbors and will cause as the main key said keys down.
Toutes ces touches sont bien entendu fixées sur des ressorts, qui sont fixés eux-mêmes sur la plaque de fond du clavier et qui n'apparaissent pas sur la figure 6 (le mot « touche » est utilisé ici par souci de simplification, puisqu'il s'agit en fait des capuchons de touche qui doivent être associés à des ressorts pour former des touches au sens plein du terme). 2955423 3/5 FIG. 6 shows in perspective the progressive construction of the pavement consisting of an inner key of the keyboard and its eight secondary and tertiary keys, starting with the placement of the four tertiary keys, continuing by the placement between two tertiary keys of the keyboard. a secondary key parallel to the X axis, then by the placement of the two secondary keys parallel to the Y axis, then by the placement of the main key, finally by the placement of the last secondary key which "closes" " all. All these keys are of course fixed on springs, which are themselves fixed on the bottom plate of the keyboard and which do not appear in Figure 6 (the word "key" is used here for the sake of simplification, since it is actually the touch caps that must be associated with springs to form keys in the full sense of the term). 2955423 3/5
The fact that all the keys of the keyboard according to the invention consist of two superimposed layers instead of three has the first advantage of reducing its total height. A second advantage is the particularly simple shape of the keys. The lower layers of the keys may further be like the strictly contiguous top layers (FIGS. 3B, 5 and 6); so if we want to provide the keyboard with a touchpad mode operation, there is no need to fix on top of it an additional touch layer cut into as many pieces as there are keys, because the two upper and lower layers of the keyboard itself, derived from the juxtaposition of the upper and lower layers of the keys, can respectively receive the electrode grid parallel to the X axis and the grid of electrodes parallel to the axis 10 Y needed for this operation. We deduce a further decrease in the height of the keyboard compared to the previous invention.
If the keyboard has no external tertiary key as shown in FIG. 3A, the number of its tertiary keys is much smaller than that of its main keys: eight tertiary for 15 main fifteen in the case of FIG. 3A. We can then take advantage of this configuration to transfer the role of electrical contact of the main keys on tertiary keys. When indeed a main key P of such a keyboard is pressed, it carries with it a set of tertiary keys of its own, and whose number is variable: four keys if the key P is inside the keyboard, two keys if it is a side key (ie outside but not located in one of the four corners of the keyboard) and a single key if it is a key "Corner". It must of course that the keyboard control member is capable of detecting up to four electrical contacts established at the same time, which is very easy to achieve. The main key pressed by the user's finger is in these conditions detected by the underlying software through the knowledge of all the tertiary keys that have themselves been depressed. This variant simplifies the printed circuit board which is engraved on the bottom plate of the keyboard since it has much fewer conductors than that of a current keyboard with the same number of main keys. This is particularly advantageous if the keyboard is equipped with the "touchpad" function, because the disturbance that can be brought by these conductors on the distribution of electrical charges of the electrodes is reduced accordingly.
A high-performance technique of industrial keyboard production according to the invention consists in using scissor-like keyboard springs. These springs consist of two elastic pieces that articulate scissors, which may or may not be associated with a buckling spring type "dome" for example, these parts may all be non-metallic and therefore non-conductive. The tertiary keys necessarily receive a buckling spring because it is to them that the role of providing finger pressure resistance similar to those of the current keyboards is returned. The main and secondary keys inside, with four tertiary neighbors, are however lacking. When there are external main keys as in Figure 3A, their depression must offer the finger the same resistance as the inner keys, which requires to provide the / 5 external secondary keys and key "corner" of a buckling spring identical to that of the tertiary keys. These key "corner" keys then undergo, when the pressure of the finger is released, a push upwards identical to those of the three secondary and tertiary keys that surround them. But the latter have a dimension, and therefore a weight, significantly lower than those of the main key and naturally back up faster than it, so that all keys pressed with the main key remains attached at the time of the ascent. The scissors must of course be assigned to all keys because they ensure their attachment to the bottom plate of the keyboard and their stability at the time of typing.
In a non-illustrated embodiment of the keyboard, the walls of the main keys, secondary and tertiary are oblique instead of vertical. This variant has the same advantage as the equivalent variant of the keyboard according to the preceding invention: the contiguity of neighboring keys, and therefore the electrical continuity of the elementary electrodes if they exist, can be ensured perfectly when the keyboard is at rest, without a friction interferes with the moment of striking the movement of a key dragged down with a neighboring key remained motionless.
