Abstract

The method involves submerging a clogged water filtering cartridge and an air purifying cartridge in cold water containing 2 to 4 percentage of products, for 12 to 48 hours. The products are constituted of zeolites, surface agents, enzymes and additives that acts based on quality, performance, stability, pH, alkalinity and aspects of the products.

Description

In the treatment of pool water, solid particles are captured by sand or cartridge filters. Of the 1.5 million private swimming pools in France, around 600,000 are equipped with a cartridge filter. For Jacuzzis and spas cartridge filtration integrated into the circulation circuit is standard. The filter cartridge has a filtration fineness of 15 to 20 micrometers (for a 40-50 micron sand filter). The disadvantage of a cartridge filter is its progressive clogging. Because of this phenomenon, the pressure before the cartridge increases and the flow rate decreases until it stops almost completely. In this case the cartridge must be replaced. The price of a spare cartridge (family pool 4x8m) is between 100 and 120 euros. Cartridge manufacturers advise regular cleaning with a jet of water and the forums on the web that evoke this problem propose to try bleach or an anti-lime product, moreover both without spectacular result of after these forums. In a cartridge filter, large particles pile up on the substrate and can be removed by water jet. The particles with a diameter of several times that of the pores of the filter cloth are also deposited on the support forming a layer called filter-cake. This layer improves, if properly formed, the fineness of the filtration and it can also be removed by jet of water. The particles clogging the filter have a size almost identical to that of the pores of the filter. The filter body is composed of several layers of fabric superimposed. The pores of each individual layer, however, are not superimposed and form a tiny labyrinth through the filter body. It is in this labyrinth that they get stuck. Without specific intervention, the end result is a total blockage of the cartridge.

In this case they can no longer be removed by water jet. The composition of the impurities gives the answer to the problem. Except for any dust brought by the wind, they are all of organic origin: human, plants and decomposed insects, oils, creams. In order to be able to remove these materials, the concerted action of zeolites, surfactants, enzymes as well as any adjuvants which affect the quality, performance, stability, pH, alkalinity, of these products. A washing of a sealed cartridge, by submersion in warm water containing 2 to 4% of such a product for 12 to 48 hours (depending on state), cleans this cartridge in depth. This process also applies to cartridges used in air purification.
