BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Methods for charging a loudspeaker include installing it on a wall of a box or adding a tubular conduit thereto. OBJECT OF THE INVENTION The subject of the invention is a novel charging method. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION According to the invention, there is provided a method of aerodynamic charging of a loudspeaker comprising a membrane, in which there is placed opposite the loudspeaker a rigid cover covering the loudspeaker and defining with the membrane a volume open on the outside by an opening, the opening having dimensions adapted to generate viscous friction in the air passing through this opening during displacement of the membrane, said viscous friction modifying the dynamics of the membrane . During large excursions of the membrane causing macroscopic convective motions of the air contained in said volume, the opening acts as an addition which opposes a resistance to the passage of air, which charges the loudspeaker . Its dynamics is modified, especially since the movements of the membrane are important. We are here in a range of frequencies well below the Helmholtz frequency of the resonator formed between the membrane and the cover. Preferably, the opening is peripheral and extends between the cover and a baffle or wall on which the speaker is mounted.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The invention will be better understood in the light of the description which follows with reference to the figures of the appended drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a sectional view of a box equipped with a charged loudspeaker; according to the invention; - Figure 2 is a sectional view of a sound reproduction device according to a particular embodiment of the invention; - Figure 3 is a front view of the sound reproduction assembly of Figure 2, secured to a TV. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring to FIG. 1, and in a manner known per se, a loudspeaker 1 is mounted on the wall of a housing 2 equipped with a vent 3. The loudspeaker 1 comprises a salad bowl 5 whose outer peripheral edge is attached to the wall of the box 2 and which carries in its center a motor 6. The motor 6 comprises a movable core 7 which moves a conical membrane 7. The outer end of the membrane 7 is connected to the bowl 5 by a suspension 8. According to the invention, there is disposed facing the loudspeaker 1 a cover in the form of a rigid plate 10 fixed to the wall of the box 2. The rigid plate 10, made by example in a metal sheet, here has a generally rotational shape and has a domed center 11 penetrating the inner volume of the membrane 7, and a peripheral ring 12 which passes over the suspension 8 is that extends facing the wall of the caisson 2 at a distance d of this last. The peripheral ring 12 covers the wall of the box 2 at least over a radial distance L. The rigid plate 10 defines with the membrane 7 a volume V open towards the outside by an annular opening 20 extending between the wall of the box 2 and the peripheral ring 12. 3 During large displacements of the membrane 7, corresponding to high power sounds, air is alternately driven from the volume V and sucked towards it by the annular opening 20. The dimensions d, L of the annular opening 20 are chosen so that the air passing through the annular opening 20 is the seat of internal viscous friction contravening this passage. The air passage thus upset loads the membrane 7 and changes its dynamics. In particular, the charge thus created is all the more important as the movements of the membrane 7 are important. This creates a variable load, increasing with the power supply of the speaker. This lowers the resonance frequency of the speaker, without damaging its damping. This type of charge is an alternative to active speaker controls, which are very difficult to develop. The principle of the invention thus illustrated lends itself to all kinds of adaptation, as the person skilled in the art immediately perceives: the shape of the domed central portion 11 can be modified to modify the volume defined between the membrane 7 and Indeed, the air trapped in this volume is likely to behave like a Helmholtz resonator. The variation of this volume by conformation of the rigid plate 10 makes it possible to adjust the frequency of this resonator. In particular, it will be sufficient to use a simple flat plate, or on the contrary, use a plate having a central crown in the other direction, so as to define a larger volume; the shape of the annular opening can be modified to adjust the resistance characteristics to the passage of air through this opening. This can be more or less radially extended; the peripheral ring can thus cover more or less the wall of the box, or more generally of the cabinet on which the loudspeaker is mounted. The distance between the rigid plate and the wall can be varied, or even be variable if the crown is provided with a variable profile; - We can change the general shape of the rigid plate, which may not be revolutionary, for example for aesthetic reasons. As a numerical example, for a loudspeaker with a diameter of 20 centimeters, mounted on a baffle so that its suspension does not protrude from the wall, it will be possible to use a circular flat rigid plate with a diameter of 30 centimeters, 2 millimeters from the baffle.
In Figure 2 is illustrated an application of the principle of the invention to a sound reproduction device 105 having a box having the general shape of an elongated parallelepiped. The box here defines two bass speakers 106 contiguous by their small faces.
Each of the bass speakers 106 is equipped with two bass speakers 107, and has a vent 108. The speakers 107 are here installed on one side of the dis-positive sound reproduction 5. A cache, here a simple sheet metallic 109, extends opposite the speakers 107 very small distance, of the order of one millimeter (in Figure 2, this distance has been exaggerated relative to the dimensions of the box, for clarity). The cover 109 defines with the membrane of each speaker an air volume open on the outside by a peripheral opening of low height. The convective movements of the air pushed by the speaker diaphragm are thus thwarted, particularly at the large excursions of the coils of the bass speakers 107 creating macroscopic convective motions of the air.
The resistance to the passage of air through this small peripheral opening, due to the screw friction, creates an aerodynamic load of the loudspeaker which increases with the displacement of the speaker diaphragm. It is therefore advisable to arrange the cover at a distance h from the wall of the enclosure which is sufficient to allow easy movement of the membrane at the small powers, but not too great to regulate the important excursions at the high powers, and avoid trips that would lead to panic loudspeaker. This obstacle load, very simple and inexpensive to implement, avoids the use of active control of speakers particularly difficult to develop. The box further carries, at the ends of the bass speakers 106, two midrange speakers 110 which radiate laterally outwardly. However, the sound radiated by these loudspeakers is much more directional than the sound emitted by the bass speakers 106. Reflectors 111, formed here by curved ends of the metal sheet 109 return the sound radiated by the loudspeakers 110. forward. Listening notes have found that the reflectors 11 induce a marked spatialization effect between the sound from the speaker 110 left and the sound coming from the speaker 110 right, allowing interesting sound effects. In Fig. 3, the housing of the sound reproduction device 5 has been placed behind a flat screen television 101 (shown in dashed lines in Fig. 2).
The subwoofer of the sound reproducing device is completely hidden behind the television 101. Only the reflectors 111 project on the sides of the television 101, giving the assembly a particularly attractive aesthetic. The assembly thus formed forms an autonomous unit, resting only on the foot of the television. The invention is not limited to what has just been described, but on the contrary encompasses any variant falling within the scope defined by the claims.
In particular, although the caches illustrated form with the wall of the box a peripheral cover, it will also be possible to implement a cover which closes the volume of air defined with the membrane at its periphery, the opening being able for example to be arranged in the center of the cache. The opening may then take the form of a thin tube capable of generating viscous friction in the air passing through this opening.
