Abstract
Description
The teeth of current harrows are generally fixed by screwing on the frame. This method of attachment does not, however, give full satisfaction. Indeed, when the harrows have been used and handled without great care for long periods of time, it is very difficult to replace their teeth because the threads thereof and the corresponding holes of the frame are often deteriorated. The present invention is more particularly intended to remedy this drawback and, for this purpose, it relates to a harrow having the structure indicated in the first paragraph above and which is characterized in that the frame comprises flat elements arranged by pairs, the flat elements of the same pair extending horizontally one above the other and comprising orifices spaced longitudinally and facing each other, in that the teeth comprise an upper section whose shape and shape; the cross-sectional dimensions correspond, with the mounting clearance, to those of the orifices facing each other flat elements, and in that the fastening means immobilize the upper section of the teeth in said orifices facing each other. Since the teeth are not screwed onto the frame, the risks of being very difficult to replace as a result of deterioration of their thread and the corresponding frame thread are now eliminated. Disassembly of the teeth can now be done more easily, even after a period of use and very long handling. The mounting of the teeth can also be done more easily than at present. Preferably, the fixing means comprise a sleeve whose length corresponds, with the assembly clearance, to the distance 35 between the flat elements of the same pair, the sleeve comprising at least one series of two diametrically opposite holes and surrounding the upper portion of a tooth over at least a portion of its length, 2 and a pin retained in the holes of the sleeve and in a bore in the upper portion of the tooth. Attaching a tooth to the frame can be done without tools. It suffices to insert the sleeve between the flat elements of the same pair, so that its axis passes approximately through the center of the two orifices at which the tooth must be fixed, to insert the upper portion of the tooth first in the orifice of the lower flat element, then in the sleeve and finally in the orifice of the upper flat element, then to align the bore formed in the upper portion of the tooth with the diametrically opposite holes of the sleeve, and finally inserting a pin at a time in the holes of the sleeve and in the drilling of the upper section of the tooth. A retainer such as a pin may advantageously be used to prevent inadvertent removal of the pin. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the orifices of the flat elements and the section of the upper section of the teeth are square. In this case, it is impossible for the teeth to rotate in the openings of the flat elements and come into a bad working position. Advantageously, the upper section of the teeth may comprise at least one second hole offset longitudinally with respect to the first hole. Thanks to their second drilling, the teeth can be adjusted in height relative to the frame, which makes it possible to compensate for their wear or to reduce the risk of twisting of the horizontal elements of the frame. The present invention also relates to a harrow tooth having an upper section having the structure presented above and hereinafter. An embodiment of the present invention will be described hereinafter by way of nonlimiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 is a schematic and partial perspective view of a harrow according to the invention; Figure 2 is an enlarged view of one of the corners of the harrow visible in Figure 1; - Figure 3 is a sectional view along the line III-III of Figure 2; and - Figure 4 is an exploded view showing the wedge of the harrow visible in Figure 2, and the corresponding tooth and the attachment means thereof. The harrow shown in Figure 1 is intended to work the soil in a manner well known per se. It comprises a frame 1 consisting of longitudinal flat elements 2 arranged vertically and having a zigzag configuration, as well as flat transverse elements 3 fixed flat, preferably by welding, against the upper and lower sides of the flat elements 2.
The elements 3 are grouped in pairs arranged parallel to each other and in each of which they extend horizontally one above the other. The elements 3 of the same pair comprise identical orifices 4 spaced longitudinally and facing each other in pairs. In the example shown, the orifices 4 have a square section. It goes without saying however that they could have a very different section, provided that it is not completely circular for the reason which will be specified below. It will be noted here that the orifices 4 are made so that two of their opposite angles are located on a straight line perpendicular to the longitudinal sides of the elements 3. This arrangement is indeed chosen to improve the quality of work performed by the harrow. To work the soil, the harrow comprises teeth 5 whose lower section ends with a point intended to penetrate the ground and whose upper section has in cross section a shape and dimensions which correspond, with the assembly clearance, 4. Thus, the upper portion of the teeth 35 5 can be easily threaded into two orifices 4 which face each other, while not being able to move parallel to the corresponding flat elements 3. 4 It will be specified here that the section of the orifices 4 must not be completely circular to prevent the teeth can move in rotation and come in the wrong working positions.
Note that the upper section and a portion of the lower section of the teeth 5 preferably have a constant section to improve the resistance to work forces by removing the reduced section areas existing on conventional teeth.
Furthermore, the upper section of the teeth has two holes 6 located one above the other and whose axes are perpendicular to two of their opposite faces. With their two holes 6, the teeth can be fixed in different positions relative to the frame 1, which compensates for wear and reduces the risk of twisting of the flat elements 3 when the harrow is used in stony terrain or it hits an obstacle. The harrow further comprises sleeves 7, the length of which corresponds, with the mounting clearance, to the distance separating the elements 3 of the same pair. The sleeves 7 comprise two diametrically opposed holes 8 and surround the upper portion of the teeth 5 over substantially its entire length. Of course, the sleeves 7 could comprise at least one additional series of diametrically opposed holes, these other holes being offset axially relative to the previous holes 8. Pins 9 having a projecting head 10 at one of their ends and a diametrical hole 11 at their other end are threaded into the holes 8 of the sleeves and into the upper hole 30 6 of the teeth, as clearly shown in the figure: 3 . With these pins, the teeth are securely attached to the frame without the need for a tool. To prevent the pins from being lost during the use of the harrow, a pin (not shown) connected to their head by a connecting element such as a cable 12 may advantageously be inserted into their diametrical hole 11.
Although the operations to be performed to fix a tooth 5 on the frame 1 are obvious to the skilled person, they will now be described briefly. Firstly, a sleeve 7 is inserted between two superposed flat elements 3, in order to align it with two orifices 4 facing each other. The upper portion of a tooth 5 is then introduced into the orifice 4 of the lower flat element 3, then into the sleeve 7 and finally into the orifice 4 of the upper flat element 3.
One of the bores 6 is then aligned with the holes 8 of the sleeve 7, and then the pin 9 is inserted into the bore 6 and the holes 8 thus aligned. It is now sufficient to insert a pin in the hole 11 of the pin 9 to prevent it from accidentally coming out of the tooth and the sleeve. The removal of the tooth is of course feasible by performing the previous operations in reverse. To be complete, it will be specified that the teeth 5 can be completely rectilinear or be bent in the vicinity of the work tip.
