Abstract

The method involves utilizing a soft wood cellulose post (1) for attracting termites that are in search of food. The post is situated at a site very near to the termites acquiring zone. The termites that are acquired by the post are detected by an acoustic sensor (2) placed at an end of the post. The sensor after detecting transmits an alarm signal through a wireless transmitter (5) to a monitoring center. An independent claim is also included for a device for alarming detection of termite.

Description

The present invention relates to a simple alarm for detecting the presence of termites, which consists in attracting termites in search of food, in detecting their nibbling and in transmitting an alarm before infestation of the buildings.
Termites are a threat to construction in much of Europe. Unlike other xylophagous insects, their action is collective and underground, and is only revealed late.
The object of the invention is to develop a system making it possible to automatically and early detect the presence of termites near a place which is not (or no longer) infected.
Known devices consist in detecting the presence of termites in the wooden structures of buildings, in repelling or attracting termites in traps in order to be able to eliminate them. The objective of the process is to automate the detection of termites, to reduce the costs of surveillance against a termite infestation, to monitor the effectiveness of curative treatments.
The device object of the invention is preventive and characterized by the fact that it does not intervene in infested buildings, but in prevention, surveillance and control of non infestation.
The accompanying drawings illustrate by way of example an embodiment.
With reference to these drawings, the preventive device intended to be installed at the periphery of buildings, is in the form of a pile (1) serving as bait in which an acoustic sensor (2) is embedded, connected by a suitable conductor (3) an acoustic signal processing card equipped with a specialized integrated circuit (4), energy accumulators (8) possibly recharged by a solar cell (7), a wired link or a coded radio transmitter (5 ) to a reception and processing center (10).
The system, according to one embodiment of the invention, is in the form of a stake whose wooden end serves as bait for termites (1). The piles are driven into the ground, spaced about 3 meters apart, on the outskirts of the buildings to be protected. Acoustic sensors (2) embedded in the bait piles (one per bait), detect the nibbling of termites and send the information to a central (10) alarm processing.
To limit energy consumption, the sensors are supplied daily for a limited period (a few minutes). When all of their data has been collected, the central processor analyzes it. If it detects an activity, it triggers an alarm which can be, depending on the case, visual and / or audible (inhabited accommodation), relayed by wire or radio (uninhabited accommodation or service contract).
The system which is the subject of the invention is intended for the following markets:
Alarm distributors (including mass distribution) Companies and professionals in the fight against termites.
Individuals.
Administrations and public bodies.
Research and anti-wood boring organizations The device according to the invention is more particularly intended to protect buildings as a preventive measure. It is therefore installed outside buildings to prevent infestation before any damage to buildings.
