Abstract
Description
French Patent 99 04127 relates to the production of compositions for the protection of the skin against the oxidative process due to solar radiation, characterized in that it produces new substances, resulting from the combination of azelaic acid with amino acids basics such as lysine or arginine, giving them antioxidant and antimalondialdehyde properties.
New research has shown that a solution of azelaic acid obtained by neutralization of azelaic acid by a basic amino acid, such as lysine or arginine solubilizes homogeneously, without the addition of heat, dyestuffs.
These dyes, thus solubilized and incorporated in a hydrophobic cosmetic medium allow an intense and durable fixation on the skin.
On the other hand, it has been found that certain dyes used in cosmetics, such as DC RED 5,21 and 27 (Color index CTFA), solubilized in azelaic acid solution retained their coloring capacity after exposure of more than one month. in sunlight, unlike those simply solubilized in water that lost their color after a few days. It is concluded that lysine or arginine azelaïate is a protector of the degradation of these dyes by ultraviolet radiation .
If alkaline bases, such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, are used instead of the basic amino acids, it is observed that the salts crystallize easily. The solubilization of the dyes, their attachment on the skin are identical to that obtained with lysine or arginine azelaicate; but in this case, there is need to heat.
However, it was found that the resistance of the dyes to solar radiation was 50% lower than that obtained by the combination of azelaic acid with basic amino acids.
The experiment showed that if certain dyes (DC RED 5,21,27), maintained their coloring potential in the presence of 2 to 5% of lysine azelaicate, after one month of exposure to air and solar radiation, other dyes such as DC RED 6 and 33 did not resist the bleaching action of radiation.
It is surprising to note that the addition of one of the RED 5,21 or 27 dyes in the presence of azelaic acid, makes it possible to maintain the coloring power of DC RED 6 and 33. The BLUE N 1 which is easily discolored under the influence of light, retains its coloring activity in the presence of azelaicate, and the same is true of certain other dyes. Accordingly, the present invention relates to a process for introducing dyestuffs used in cosmetics, or in the coloring industry, into a hydrophobic or hydrophilic medium. This process is characterized by the use of azelaic acid, the carboxyls of which are preferentially neutralized with biological bases, such as the basic amino acids: lysine and arginine or other organic bases such as ethanolamines or else with mineral bases, such as potash and sodium hydroxide. The neutralization of the carboxyls of azelaic acid by the basic amino acids leads to a much higher resistance to the bleaching action of ultraviolet radiation compared to other basic agents.
This process consists in dissolving 10 to 50% of dye in a 50% solution of azelaïate.
The azelaïate solution dissolves high amounts of dyestuff.
The dyestuff solution thus obtained will be introduced into a hydrophobic or hydrophilic medium.
In the case of a hydrophobic medium, it is necessary to heat at temperatures varying according to the constituents of this medium. A homogeneous dispersion of the dyestuff is obtained because of the emulsifying power of the azelaic acid derivatives.
In a hydrophilic medium, it is not necessary to heat.
This process will be advantageously used for the coloration of cosmetic products such as lipsticks, mascaras, blushes. This process may also be used in the industrial manufacture of colored products, as non-limiting examples: gouaches, paints-coloring of papers, of fabrics.
