Abstract
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1> <Desc / Clms Page number 1>
The invention relates to the removal of heavy metals contained in liquids.
In the current legislative context on the environment, the problems linked to the discharge of toxic elements by industrial sites on the one hand and to the quality of drinking water on the other hand, are becoming increasingly acute. Thus, French law no.92.646 of July 13, 1992 stipulates that electricity
From 1 July 2002, waste disposal will only be authorized to receive waste which will no longer be liable to be treated to reduce its polluting or dangerous nature under the technical and economic conditions at the time. As heavy metals play no biological role and because of their moderate natural abundance, the response of living beings to their overload is passive, by accumulation or at most, non-specific. Plants and certain mammals synthesize metallothioneins, proteins of low molar mass (<6 kDa) rich in cysteine residues. In humans, chronic intoxication by lead, lead poisoning, and more generally, by mercury and cadmium, which have chemical properties similar to those of lead, is manifested by renal disorders, gastro -intestinal and nervous, by anemia and delayed development in children. This toxicity is linked to the interference of heavy metals in the metabolism of zinc and calcium and the inability to eliminate them from the human body, hence their accumulation in the liver, kidneys, brain and bones. This is why the design of new materials capable of sequestering and removing heavy metals from aqueous effluents or from biological fluids is of considerable interest. The specific coordination properties of organic ligands have been exploited to efficiently and selectively complex the targeted cations by a purification process (AT Yordanov, DM Roundhill, Coord. Chem. Rev. (1998). 170. 93). Two approaches have been tried. These are liquid / liquid extraction and solid / liquid separation. For liquid / liquid extraction, the extractant must possess both amphiphilic properties, while preserving high lipophilicity in order to minimize the loss of ligands in the aqueous phase.

Puranik. A. Singh. E.L. Chang. Coord. Chem. 1996. 39. 321). Muller. H. Handel; Tetrahedron Lett.
ML2 + {(3m! h = IMmLHnj / (IM] "ILI [H1n]} complexes were determined for the cations Pb2 + (log 13110 = 9-10), Zn2 + (log Plio = 11-13) and Cu2 + (log p110 = 17-20) They reflect an increase in selectivity in favor of cations of high ionic radius relative to cyclam (DB Puranik. A. Singh. EL Chang. Coord. Chem. 1996. 39. 321). functionalized 16- and 18-atom tetraazamacrocycles have also been prepared (FR Muller. H. Handel; Tetrahedron Lett.
1982. 23. 2769). 1982. 23.2769).
Baumann, J. G. Reynolds. G. A. Fox. Chem. Commun. The lipophilic ligands were used in both a liquid / liquid and a solid / liquid extraction process by impregnation on a highly hydrated polyacrylic resin of the XAD-7 type (FR Muller. H. Handel. R. Guglielmetti. Helv. Chim. Acta 1983, 66. 1525; L. Percelav, P. Appriou. H. Handel, Analusis 1988. 16,450). However, the solubility of the extractants in the aqueous phase results in a non-negligible loss of the latter, which makes the use, recovery and regeneration of the impregnated ligands difficult. Ligands were also grafted onto a solid organic matrix, the divinylbenzene / 4-vinylbenzene copolymer C-substituted by 1,4,8,11,14-pentathio cycloheptadecane, with which we obtained mercury extraction rates ( )!) greater than 99%, at a pH approximately equal to 3.6 (TF Baumann, JG Reynolds. GA Fox. Chem. Commun.
Anal. Lett. 1998. 31. 299). 1998. 1637). The functionalized calixarenes immobilized on an organic polymer and intended to trap heavy metals constitute another example (K. Ohto. Y. Tanaka. K. Inoue, Chem. Lett. 1997. 647). As examples of mineral support, there are silica gels. Isatin and ninhydrin supported on silica gel, revealed cadmium and lead binding capacities of the order of 0.15-0. 25 mmol g-1 at pH approximately equal to 5 (EM Soliman. Anal. Lett. 1998. 31. 299).
H. Chollet, P. Guiberteau. P. Cocolios. WO 96/11056 ; Gros. F. Denat, S. Silicas modified with N-substituted nitrogenous macrocyclic polyethers have shown selective extraction capacities for lead and mercury (J. S. Bradshaw. R.M. Izatt, Acc. Chem. Res. 1997. 30. 338). Numerous silica gels modified by polyazamacrocyclic ligands have also been synthesized (R. Guilard. H. Chollet, P. Guiberteau. P. Cocolios. WO 96/11056; Gros. F. Denat, S.
Brandès. H. Chollet, R. Guilard. J. Chem. Soc.. Dalton Trans. 1996. 1209). H. Chollet, R. Guilard. J. Chem. Soc .. Dalton Trans. 1996. 1209). Recently, a new class of nanoporous materials have been prepared. They are obtained by gelation of a tetraalkoxysilane in the presence of a tensor.

As part of research on the elimination of heavy metals contained in low concentrations in liquids, such as industrial water, waste water or drinking water or in biological fluids such as blood (in vivo detoxification), with the objectives of '' to avoid the drawbacks associated with the use of extractants in the liquid phase, and to reach purification thresholds higher than those obtained by the use of commercial ion exchange resins, the Applicant is interested in new compounds polyazacycloalkane derivatives.
