BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a burglar alarm system for an electronic apparatus provided with a slot.
Expensive electronic devices such as laptops, personal digital assistants, digital cameras, video cameras, spectrophotometers, control oscilloscopes, etc. usually have a slot for a floppy disk or a card. These expensive electronic devices tend to be stolen because of their small size combined with their high value. However, the known alarm system usually requires some modifications of the aforementioned electronic devices. We would therefore need a simple alarm system and convenient.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention has been accomplished in the circumstances under consideration. An object of the present invention is to provide a burglar alarm system which a radio transmitter can be mounted directly in a slot of an electronic device so that the burglar alarm system automatically emits an alarm signal when the device electronics is moved beyond the reception range of a radio receiver of the burglar alarm system. Another object of the present invention is to provide a burglar alarm system which is kept in a state of alert when the electronic device under protection is carried away by a thief. Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a burglar alarm system that can be put in a search mode for the location of the electronic device under protection. According to the present invention, the anti-theft alarm system is intended to be used with an electronic apparatus provided with a slot. The anti-theft alarm system includes a radio transmitter that is controlled to transmit a radio code signal and a radio receiver to receive the radio code signal from the radio transmitter. In use, the radio transmitter is engaged in the slot of the electronic device and the radio receiver is worn by the user or installed in a specific location. When the electronic apparatus is moved away from the radio receiver by more than a determined distance, the reception of the radio code signal is interrupted and an alarm device of the radio receiver transmits an alarm signal. The radio transmitter can be controlled manually by means of a manual main switch or be provided with an automatic general switch. When the radio transmitter is inserted into the slot of the electronic device, the switch can be closed automatically. On the contrary, when removing the radio transmitter from the slot, the switch can open automatically. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS - Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the present invention.

Figure 9 is a block diagram of the radio receiver circuits of the present invention. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT In FIG. 1 is shown an anti-theft alarm system 10 which is intended to be used with an electronic apparatus 90 and comprises a radio transmitter 20 and a radio receiver 30. The electronic apparatus 90 is for example a laptop 91 provided with a slot 92. In use, the radio transmitter 20 is engaged in the slot 92 of the laptop 91 and the radio receiver 30 is worn by the user 95, for example in his pocket 96 When the laptop 91 is moved away from the user 95 by more than a determined distance, the radio receiver 30 is unable to receive the signal from the radio transmitter 20. Therefore, the alarm device 35 (see FIG. also Figure 9) of the radio receiver 30 is immediately triggered to give the alarm. As shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 8, the radio transmitter 20 is a card-like transmitter 26 which includes a card-like housing 25 for fitting into the slot 90 of the electronic device 90 (laptop 91), a printed circuit board 201 mounted within the housing 25 and a general switch 27 mounted on the card-like housing 25 for switching on and off the battery power (not shown) of the radio transmitter 20. radio transmitter 20 has the size of a 3.5-inch diskette. The main switch 27 of the radio transmitter 20 is made in the manner of the anti-write tab of a 3.5-inch diskette. A metal contact plate 271 is provided on the printed circuit board 201 and controlled by closing / opening the battery supply circuit of the circuit board 201 by moving back and forth the main switch 27 between two positions. The printed circuit board 201 of the radio transmitter 20 comprises a transmission circuit formed of an encoder 22, a radio signal transmitter 23 and a transmitting antenna 24, and a transmission control device 21. which controls the operation of the transmitting circuit. When the general switch 27 of the radio transmitter 20 is closed, the emission control device 21 commands the encoder 22 to send a code signal 29 to the radio signal transmitter 23, which allows transmission of this signal 29 in the radio air by the radio signal transmitter 23 via the transmitting antenna 24. For the energy saving is provided a transmission time sequence circuit 28 which controls the transmission frequency of the code signal 29. The transmission control device 21 may be a microprocessor or a logic circuit. Since the emission control device 21 can be realized by conventional techniques, it will not be described in detail. FIG. 4 shows another form of general switch 27. By introducing the card-type transmitter 26 into the slot 92 of the laptop computer 91, the flap 261 is opened to turn on the power. Because of its movement, the flap 261 can come into contact with the two metal contacts 202 of the printed circuit board 201, which is intended for a connection of the battery power supply (not shown). The material of the flap 261 must therefore be conductive, or the part of the flap <B> 261 </ B> which comes into contact with the metal contacts 202 is made of conductive material. On the contrary, by removing the card-type transmitter 26 from slot 92, the power supply is cut off. Figures 5 and 6 show another form of general switch 27. In this other form, the general switch 27 consists of a metal push button 60 supported by an elastic member 61 over two metal contacts 202 which are connected to the two opposite ends of the battery supply circuit of the printed circuit board 201. By introducing the radio transmitter 26 into the slot 92 of the laptop computer 91, the pushbutton 60 is pushed downwards for the contacting the metal contacts 202, which causes the power circuit of the printed circuit board 201 to turn on. On the contrary, when the radio transmitter 26 is removed from the slot 92 of the portable computer 92, the push-button 60 is moved away from the metal contacts 202 by the elastic member 61, which causes the battery-powered circuit to be de-energized. The advantage of the realizations of the main switch 27 shown in FIG. 4 and FIGS. 5 and 6 is that the radio transmitter 20, 26 is automatically de-energized when it is removed from the slot 92 of the computer. 91, so that the radio receiver 30 emits an alarm signal.
As shown in FIGS. 7 and 9, the radio receiver 30 comprises a decoder 32, a radio signal receiver 33, a reception antenna 34, an alarm device 35, a switch 37 and a reception control device 31 which controls the previous electronic components. The switch 37 is operated to turn the power supply (not shown) of the radio receiver 30 on or off or to initiate a seek mode. The receiving antenna 34 receives the code signal 29 from the radio transmitter 20 and sends the received code signal 29 to the decoder 32 for recognition. If the radio receiver 30 does not receive a signal from the radio transmitter 20 when it is turned on, the reception controller 31 immediately commands the alarm device 35 to transmit an alarm signal. The alarm device 35 may be a buzzer, buzzer or the like.
If the user 95 forgets the location of the laptop 91 or if it is stolen by a thief, the user can put the switch 37 in search mode to search the computer 91. If the radio receiver 30 receives the code signal 29 after the switch 37 of the radio receiver 30 has been put into search mode, the alarm device 35 is actuated to emit an alarm signal. Therefore, the switch 37 can be operated to turn the radio receiver 30 on, off, or in search mode.
As shown in FIG. 7, the radio receiver 30 may be a pen type radio receiver 50 having a claw 51 for convenient attachment to the user's pocket 96.
It will be understood that the drawings are for illustrative purposes only and are not intended to define the scope and scope of the invention presented. For example, the radio transmitter may be in the form of a memory card or an integrated circuit card.
