Description

The present invention relates to a device for recording or viewing a video sequence while incorporating a soundtrack independent of the external sound source.

Various devices capable of recording or viewing video recordings have already been developed, such as camcorders or other analog or digital video recorders. These devices can be provided with one or more sound inputs allowing either to mix or to replace the soundtrack originally recorded when shooting with an external sound source.

On the other hand, there are also various devices capable of playing recorded songs, such as digital compact disc players, compressed file players (for example according to the MPEG-level 3 standard), etc.

Finally, there are devices using synthesizers of instrumental sounds to which are applied, for example according to the MIDI standard (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), note scores, composed automatically.

The device according to the invention constitutes an improvement of these devices by integrating into a video recording or playback device a module generating music or other sounds which can either be mixed with the originally recorded sound (sound mixing), either replace the originally recorded sound (dubbing so nore). This mixing or dubbing can be done either when recording the video / sound, or when playing the video / sound recording (Figure 1).

The device according to the invention makes it possible to select pieces of music, either from a discotheque stored for example in the form of digitized music files, MIDI files, or the like; either from songs composed in a pseudo-random manner using for example the synthesizer function to play original musical pieces. The device thus makes it possible to select, for example as a function of a chosen style of music, in a pseudo-random manner or as a function of predefined criteria, the playback of sound files meeting these criteria and drawn either from the disco or generated by the automatic dialing function, and to use the resulting sounds either during video recording or during video playback.

According to the functional diagram illustrated in FIG. 2, the module generating music or other sounds according to the invention essentially comprises a calculator (1), a memory (2) containing the musical database of the composition device automatic, a musical synthesizer (4), a memory (3) for storing sound samples for the musical synthesizer, a digital / analog converter and converter circuit (5) and a memory (6), internal or external to the device, containing a library of digitized music files. The memory elements (2), (3) and (6) can consist of one or more physically separate components or not. The calculator (1) is capable of selecting according to certain predefined criteria or determined by a user of the musical files from the discotheque or of automatically composing a melody using the database present in the memory (2) and of an automatic composition algorithm. The synthesizer output signal S3, after digital / analog conversion through the converter (7), delivers an analog signal A3 possibly added to the recorded sound A2 or to the external sound input A1, is then converted to analog in the circuit (5) to give the full audio signal S1 / S2. This audio signal S1 / S2, which constitutes the output of the device according to the invention, can then be used as a sound source during video / sound recording (S1) or during video / sound playback (S2). According to a particular embodiment of the device according to the invention, the computer consists of a microprocessor or microcontroller associated with one or more memories. A RAM memory (volatile memory) can serve as working memory for the microprocessor, while a ROM memory or EPROM can contain the program of the microprocessor and the music database of the automatic composition device. Greater flexibility will however be allowed by the use of non-volatile memory: RAM memory backed up by battery or battery, or Flash EEPROM memory (electrically erasable). Non-volatile memory can be used to store the music database of the autodialer, digital music files from the nightclub, as well as the microprocessor program, making it easy to update the music database and program microprocessor.

The computer can also be used to select the sound source or sources described above. It can also be used to select commands allowing the implementation of functions such as playing a recording, choosing and mixing a sound source, or controlling any other function usually found in a system based on VCR, thus combining the functions of blocks 11 and 13 of FIG. 1.
