Abstract

Generates first and second sequences by rearranging mapping values of binary pixels in binary shape signal according to states of binary pixels. Adaptive probability sets are assigned (160) to the sequences. The sequences are arithmetically encoded (170) based on adaptive probability sets to produce encoded binary shape signals. A context number for each target pixel in a current binary block is calculated (120) based on a corresponding context. A probability corresponding to the context number is detected. A state (130) and a predicted pixel value (140) of the target pixel are determined by comparing the probability of the target pixel with threshold values. A mapping value of the target pixel is computed by comparing the predicted pixel value with the original pixel value (140). The mapping value indicates if the predicted pixel value is identical to the original pixel value. The process is repeated for all binary pixels in a binary block of a binary shape signal. A rearranged binary block is produced (150) divided to first and second sequences. The first and second sequences are arithmetically encoded (170) to produce the encoded binary shape signal.
