Abstract

A lightweight instrument which can be used by large numbers of people, e.g. at popular manifestations, consists of a cylinder (1) of a lightweight material, e.g. expanded or extruded polystyrene, covered by a skin (10) of plastics, e.g. PVC, or synthetic fibres. Beneath the skin the instrument has a row of bells attached to an elastic cord with T-shaped fasteners on its end, let into matching slots in the edge (3) of the cylinder. In variants of the design the cylinder can be moulded to incorporate a handle, it can have a second skin on its lower edge, and its wall can be hollow and contain seeds or sand.
