Abstract

The heat exchanger comprises a bundle of tubes (2) carrying a first fluid flow (F1). Series of heat-conducting elements (5) contact them and allow passage of a second fluid flow (F2). The heat-conducting elements consist of porous blocks of heat-conductive material, with communicating cavities forming the second fluid flow path. The porous blocks may be formed of masses of fibres or strips of heat-conductive material, woven or otherwise connected to define a wool-type fabric structure. Alternatively they may be formed of a foamed heat-conductive material. The heat-conductive material is a metal, typically aluminium, copper, or an alloy of one of these.
