Abstract

The electronic protection device delays the application of supply potential to the compressor motor of a refrigerator or freezer after brief interruptions to the mains supply generated by supply transients or lightning. The delay provides time for the pressure in the refrigeration circuit to fall to a safe level to not overload the motor during recovery. The electronic protection device can be incorporated in protective circuit breaker of in the power plug, and has a timer circuit that delays reapplication of the supply voltage, by providing a shunt that bridges the incoming supply line. The delay can be adjusted between three and five minutes.
