Description

DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
The invention relates to a device for cleaning surfaces.

The main cleaning techniques are washing, ultrasound and dusting. The surface to be cleaned is in direct contact with, respectively, the washing fluid, the excitation bath and an absorption pad. In all cases, this cleaning agent must be at least as clean as the surface to be cleaned, and even very clean in the applications for which quality cleaning is desired, which is for example the case when it is desired to clean the contaminated surfaces in the nuclear industry. As a result, the cleaning agent must be replaced very often, at the cost of a large production of waste or effluents. It can also be seen that cleaning generally takes a long time when it is meticulous, which exposes the personnel to health risks in the above application, and that the generous use of detergents or similar products which promote the decomposition of impurities liberates by evaporation of gases which can also be harmful, especially in confined spaces.

It is to remedy these drawbacks that the invention was conceived. It belongs to the dusting processes and can be applied to the rapid and economical cleaning of almost all surfaces in various applications, although it is described here, in accordance with an important activity of the applicant, for the cleaning of waterproof and contaminated enclosures known as glove boxes.

The invention relates specifically to a device for cleaning surfaces, comprising a tampon, characterized in that it comprises an open bell, a suction circuit opening into the bell, a support to which the tampon is attached, the support and the tampon being placed at an opening of the bell, and a motor means connecting the support to the bell and moving the support and the tampon, the support being pierced by holes joining the tampon inside the bell.

It can be seen that the essential phenomenon which intervenes in the invention is a suction produced through the pad and the support, which facilitates the collection of particles from the surface and retains them on the pad. A fairly dirty pad can therefore be used without inconvenience without compromising the effectiveness of cleaning.

The single figure, the commentary of which will be discussed and which illustrates one possible embodiment of the invention, among others, will make it easier to grasp this particular feature as well as others.

A pad 1 bears on the surface to be cleaned 2. It is flat in shape and pressed against the surface to be cleaned by a support 3 which presses on substantially its entire surface and is linked to it by a removable connection means such as a set loops 4 fixed to the underside of the support 3 and into which are hooks 5 attached to the upper face of the pad 1. The support 3 is drilled right through, depending on its thickness, by holes 6 which therefore put in communication the upper or rear face of the pad 1 with the volume surrounded by a bell 7 provided with an opening 8 directed towards the surface to be cleaned 2 and which surrounds the pad 1. However, the pad 1 is offset from the bell 7 of so as to leave a slot 9 in an arc between the opening 8 and the pad 1.

Cette disposition facilite la collecte de certaines particules arrachées de la surface directement par l'action d'un aspirateur 10 relié à l'intérieur de la cloche 7 par un conduit 11.This arrangement facilitates the collection of certain particles torn from the surface directly by the action of a vacuum cleaner 10 connected to the inside of the bell 7 by a conduit 11.

The main effect of the suction carried out inside the bell 7 is however to produce a current through the pad 1 via the holes 6: the particles torn from the surface to be cleaned 2 by the pad 1 do not are thus not likely to fall by gravity or otherwise, but are retained on it and are not likely to soil the surface to be cleaned again 2. In addition, the vapors released by the evaporation of solvents are also sucked up.

The pad 1 rotates under the action of a motor 12 fixed to the bell 7 by a rib 13 and provided with a pin 14 to which the support 3 is fixed. The pin 14 passes through the bottom wall of the bell 7 by a bore 15 fitted with a seal 16.

It is advantageous that the axis 14 is connected to an eccentric zone of the support 3, which makes it possible to combine a reciprocating movement with the rotational movement of the pad 1, to better simulate the usual dusting movement.

This is done by holding the bell 7 by hand and moving it over the surface to be cleaned 2. The pad can be a 50 mm diameter disc made of slightly abrasive material and can be commonly sold commercially; depending on the case, hydrophilic cotton, a textile cloth, emery cloth, sandpaper, iron wool, may be used to mention common products which are more and more abrasive.

It is advantageous for the motor 12 to be pneumatic for this application where the friction force is very variable. The motor 12 can then have a flow rate close to that of the vacuum cleaner 10 so as not to unbalance the pressure regulation circuits in the case where one works in a closed enclosure.

For a series of parts determined to be cleaned, the cleaning lasted 1 hour with this device against 5 to 8 approximately with simple pads; the waste was concentrated on 10 to 15 pads 45 mm in diameter, while 5 to 10 liters of used simple pads were produced; finally, the confined area of the cleaning had to be washed every 15 to 20 pieces, against 3 or 4 with simple pads, because of the impurities torn off, then released and having fallen. We therefore realize important advantages of the invention.
