Abstract

The appts. has three identical pairs of cylinders (2,2') arranged in sequence in a thermally insulated enclosure in front of two pairs of smaller pressure rollers. Each envelope in turn is propelled (F) between the cylinders which rotate (9,12) in opposite directions. The upper cylinder (2) has a fixed core (7) of e.g., Al in a freely rotating sleeve (8) of e.g, steel. Three cylindrical bores (10) through the core contain electric resistance heating elements (11). The lower cylinder (2') has a silicon covering to ensure better distribution of pressure over an envelope having e.g. a thicker centre.
