Abstract

The corset consists of a pelvic belt (1) designed to go round the patient's body and apply a pressure to the trochanters and is made with a raised back section and two front ends forming a central aperture and for fixing to an abdominal panel. It also has two U-shaped side shells (3, 4) fitting the patient's sides over the iliac crest and equipped with forward sections for joining to the abdominal panel and rear sections for joining to the raised back section of the pelvic belt.The side shells of the corset are pivoted to the pelvic belt and the abdominal panel, and the corset has an upper dorso-lateral L-shaped thrust element (5, 6) which is pivoted or fixed by its lower end to one of the side shells or to the raised back section.

Description

The present application relates to a corset for the

  maintenance and straightening of the spine.

  Until now, patients with deformities of the spine, such as scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis etc ..., were provided with one-piece corsets to hold the trunk in a given position by enclosing the rib cage or consisting of adjustable elements to which fittings are fixed

  transverse with a number of rigid supports.

  By articulation is meant in the context of the present application, a single conventional connection means between two elements, such as rivet, screw, snap or other so as to allow rotation of one of these elements relative to the other around this point of articulation, which

serves as a center of rotation.

  Likewise, by fixing is meant a conventional double means of connection between two elements, for example by at least two rivets, screws, press studs, Velcro tape, straps, straps or the like, so as to avoid any rotation of one of these elements relative to each other at

  level of their double bond point.

  The articulation of the lateral shells on the raised part forming the back of the pelvic girdle and on the abdominal plate allows the patient to flex the

  torso in the lateral plane, while having its spine-

  Such flexion of the patient's torso in the lateral plane or in the anteroposterior plane, or even in these two planes, which are perpendicular to each other,

  also makes it possible to slightly rotate it.

  The articulation or the fixing of the shells or of each upper dorsolateral support can be carried out in different locations, with limitation by stop, which can be adjustable or with elastic damping device, to allow a better adaptation to the morphology of each individual and a possible progressive adjustment of the correction of the spine, even offering the possibility of a "bending" effect. The apparatus according to the invention has the advantage of allowing proprioceptive treatment, that is to say a treatment which responds to the sensations, reactions and movements of the patient, in particular by maintaining constraints related to a determined position of the column which become more pronounced if the patient moves outside of

  this position, or during the pushes exerted by a kinesi

  therapist.   The different variants of the corset according to the present invention, illustrated by these drawings, include elements which are identified by the same references to facilitate understanding of the invention in its

different implementations.

  The pelvic girdle (1), which is the basic element of the corset according to the invention and which is described in European patent 16,293 consists, as shown in particular

  Figures 1 and 2, in a rigid element of general shape-

  circular, which surrounds the pelvis by molding the gluteal masses and rests on at least one of the trochanters to end in two anterior ends, spaced

  from each other, so as to provide an opening.

  The belt has at its two anterior ends and on its raised rear part forming a backrest known fixing means, for example of the throat-lug type with press studs or screw lugs, or rivets, for fixing the other elements of the corset therein. the invention.   The abdominal plate preferably consists of a rigid element, of general trapezoidal shape having a certain number of perforations, intended to receive, in addition to the means of connection of the anterior ends of the pelvic girdle, those of the lateral shells. This abdominal plate can also consist of a single tab or under tab on which are fixed, by Velcro tape, by straps or by any other closing means conventionally used in orthopedics, the belt

  Each support (5 or 6) is articulated at its end

  lower part, on the corresponding lateral shell (4 or 3), at a point located laterally on the shell, to allow rotation in the anteroposterior plane of the patient, essentially forward, as indicated by the

arrows in Figures 3 and 4.

  This articulation can be carried out on the lower part forming the rim of the lateral shell using two flanges (8), pierced with holes (9) and which surround the lower end of the dorsolateral support and

the edge of the shell.

  The flanges (8), which can be made of plastic or metallic material, prevent, by their dimensions, from pinching the patient's skin, at the location of the joint, since they are located on either side else of the

  rotation point of the latter.

  Depending on the position of the holes (9) of the flanges (8) and the selection of the one serving as an axis for the articulation on the lower end of a dorso-lateral support (5 or 6), the height of this axis and therefore the correction, carried out actively by this support, on the deformation of the spine and one can also limit the amplitude of the rotational movement around this axis by abutment of the lower end of the support on the

  shell to which it is articulated (see Figure 4).

  fixing on the corresponding side shell.

  It should be noted that each of the side shells (3, 4) can be presented either in one piece (Figures 1 to 6), the articulation or the fixing of the supports (5, 6) being placed laterally on a vertical rim shell, either in the form of a shell having, as a result of appropriate cutting (31), a vertical flange (32), on which is articulated or fixed the lower end of the support, as illustrated in the Figure 3, either in the form of two separate elements, one lower forming a rim (13) and the other upper forming a back element (12) (see

  The upper ends of the inverted L-shaped supports (5,6) could possibly not be connected to each other, posteriorly as illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 6, but could be fixed, by any adjustable fixing means, as illustrated for example by the bar (25) of the

  The rectilinear articulation lug (33) can possibly be completed by two small vertical end lugs which each connect one end of the rectilinear articulation lug (33) articulated on the lateral shell (3 or 4) at a point d articulation (26) located on the raised part forming the back of the pelvic girdle: in such an embodiment, which is not illustrated in the drawings, the rectilinear articulation tab (33) is preferably not articulated in the middle to facilitate lateral tilting movement and

  allow lateral movement of the patient.

  It should be noted that, if the corset according to the present invention allows a certain mobility of the patient, both in the anteroposterior plane and in the lateral plane depending on the mounting of its constituent elements, it can also be locked in certain positions for systematic treatment or intermittent spine. This blocking can be carried out by fixing a first element (3, 4 or 5, 6) using a second conventional connection means on the other element with which this first element is articulated, to prevent their rotation. , for example in a stop position in the implementations shown in Figures 1 to 10 or 17 to 31; blocking can also be obtained using a splint (25) as shown in Figure 16, in the implementation shown in Figures 11 to 16; which rigidly connects the lateral dorso support and the corresponding lateral shell, to prevent bending of the said support. this slot.

  The various elements of the corset according to the present invention can be manufactured by molding of

  conventional plastics, especially polyethylene

  lene or polypropylene, but also in other materials such as composites which may be carbon composites, in polytetrafluoroethylene or in silicones, in an appropriate thickness to combine the natural rigidity of these composite materials or not with a certain flexibility of the elements thus manufactured to facilitate the mounting and dismounting of the corset on the patient.

  It goes without saying that the different elements

  The corsets according to the present invention can be manufactured or prefabricated in isolation and that one of the means described in connection with a given variant can be combined with a means described in connection with another embodiment of

the invention.

  Finally, it will be noted that the corset according to the invention can be used with devices or splints of the lower limbs used in orthopedics, in one or more of the standing, sitting or lying positions; when used with a leg orthosis, the connection point is

  usually at the site of the hip joint.
