Abstract

The roof batten fixing cleat for use when existing nails have become too eroded by rust for use, is hook shaped (6,1,2,3) and is fixed to rafters (8) by a nail through the eye (3) at one end. The cleat is roughly L-shaped with the eye at one end and a rounded part (2) passing round the batten (7) for the pointed end (6) into the batten. With its flat rounded section (9) the cleat can easily be inserted between existing tiles and battens, and is drawn snugly round and against the battens when tensioned by nailing. It is made of stressed metal, stainless steel or metal well treated against corrosion. USE/ADVANTAGES : Easily fixed without need to get on roof to remove tiles from existing battens.

Description

The present invention relates to a fixed batten to provide defection nailing battens or battens on their rafters without having to climb on the roof.

Tile roofs of a certain age can present the risk that a tile will move when sliding a batten because its nail for some reason has failed, especially at the end of the batten. Any displaced tile offers an opening in the roof which becomes fragile to gusts of wind. Gusts of wind rush in through the hole and blow up the tiles which can seriously injure passersby
At a lower cost, the fixed batten can allow regular maintenance of the roofs which would not be done due to the fear of the cost of deploying sets of ladders. He also avoids the fall of roofers who would have to work on repairs in high winds to save a roof from disaster.

The fixed batten according to the invention is a hook which makes it possible to reinforce, consolidate, maintain or replace a batten or a batten whose fixing by nail on its rafter would be doubtful, insufficient, would offer a failure or for any reason would have affected .

It is in the form of a hook which will be fixed both on the right and on the left by a stainless nail like the fixed strip or which will have the same anti-corrosion coating as the fixed strip.

In order to fit between the wood and the tile, it will have the slightest thickness (9) without its strength being affected because it will have at least the resistance of the nail that it is supposed to replace.

Its shape allows it thanks to the slope of the roof and the load a permanent self-tightening. Figures (7) and (8) in broken lines represent a batten and a chevron. The design is flat but you must consider that the chevron is tilted.

The figure (6-1-2-3) represents the fixed batten; in (3) the eye for the passage of the nail which is not shown here, and which serves as a pivot axis for the fixed strip The fixed strip uses the natural tendency for the strip to slide along the rafter ( 8) by the weight and pressing at point (2) of the fixed strip which by its curve causes the point (6) and the rounding (1) to become embedded in the wood until total contact of the wood and the metal from (6) to (2) and the immediate blocking of the strip from the nailing which is done in the stretched position. The sliding of the batten is tiny because the angle (5) which determines the position of the axis of (3) means that the batten fixed cannot tilt over the edge of the batten grabbed in pincers by the batten fixed in ( 6-1-2) according to the radius circle - (3-2). In (9) cross section of the composition thread of the fixed strip (laminated wire). The dimensions of the fixed batten will be specific to the type of batten for which it will be used.
