Abstract

Atomiser consists of an antistatic tube (16) linked to a pressurised gas source, a detachable container (9) for the prod. to be atomised, and an ergonomic handle with a trigger (2) to give precise control of the gas pressure and, consequently, the power of the spray. The sprayed product is ejected through a lance (6) of variable length, ending in a detachable nozzle (15), and the is a curved guard screen (7) between the container and the nozzle. The compressed gas used for the atomisation is pref. oxygen, which is suitable for use in a hospital situation and promotes the healing of wounds. ADVANTAGE - More convenient cleaning and treatment of wounds, with lower risk of infection and less pain for patient.

Description

 The invention relates to a device for spraying an antibiotic or antiseptic or similar solution, for medical or paramedical use, for cleaning wounds or tissues.

 Currently, wounds are cleaned by swabbing the liquid solution with a compress or the like, or by spraying it with a manually operated spray bottle or aerosol. In all cases a mechanical friction action is necessary to strip the tissue.

This method has drawbacks that have never been resolved
- incomplete penetration of the solution into the folds of the tissues,
- painful nature of cleaning,
- impossibility of cleaning certain lesions by contact and friction and certain lesions difficult to access,
- use of a contact element, the compress for example which can be a source of contamination.

 The invention aims to overcome all these drawbacks.

 The basic idea is to vaporize the solution by means of a pressurized gas to obtain a powerful washing and mechanical action without using an intermediary such as a compress, a tampon, a syringe or the like.

 The inventor had the idea of using, as propellant, the gases made available by standard outlets near the beds of the sick.

He therefore had the idea of developing a spraying device of the type of pistols used in painting, stripping of slabs or the like, and of adapting it to the requirements of the medical or paramedical field, namely the requirements of
- sterilization: all the constituent elements must be sterilizable by conventional means to allow use during a surgical intervention.

- maneuverability and lightness,
- protection of the user and the environment against splashing,
- pressure adaptation: the available oxygen pressure can go up to 10 bars, it is necessary to provide a means to reduce and modulate this pressure according to the chosen application.

All these aims are achieved by the invention which consists of a device for spraying an antibiotic or antiseptic solution or the like, for medical or paramedical use, for cleaning wounds or tissues, characterized in that it comprises
an antistatic hose fitted with a standardized plug for connection to a pressurized gas source used in medical applications,
a unscrewable bottle, containing the product to be sprayed,
an ergonomic handle forming a trigger and allowing the gas pressure and therefore the detergent power to be adjusted precisely and at will,
a lance of variable length terminated by a spray tip.

 Oxygen is preferably chosen as the carrier gas because in addition to its mechanical functions of suction of the solution and pickling, it plays an important therapeutic role in the medical and paramedical application by promoting the healing of the tissues and contributing to the antiseptic action of cleaning.

The spraying device mainly comprises
- a pistol-shaped body (1) with an ergonomic handle (2) articulated on an axis of rotation (5) and brought back to the rest position by the action of a compression spring (4) (shown diagrammatically by a line axis) on a piston (3),
- a bottle (9) containing the solution, screwable and unscrewable on a stopper (12) secured to the gun lance,
- A spraying system with a pipe (10) immersed in the solution ending at the bottom by a sampling nozzle (11) and opening at the top in an inlet pipe (13) of the pressurized gas pipe provided in the lance (14 ) of the pistol,
- a spray tip (6) removable and interchangeable with a nut (8), the length and diameter of which are variable and the shape of the end (15) of which can be conical, flat or other, allowing the jet to be directed into the places difficult to access and vary the sheaf,
a protective screen (7) forming a shield against splashes, for example transparent and in an arc of a circle as in the figures,
- an antistatic hose (16) (partially shown), and terminated by a standard connection socket (not shown) to an oxygen source: general network or bottle.

 By its action on the inlet duct (13), the handle (2) allows the oxygen pressure, therefore the mechanical detergent pressure, to be adjusted precisely and at will.

 Oxygen plays the role of carrier gas, it allows the suction of the solution by the pipe (10).

 In addition to this mechanical function, oxygen has a therapeutic function by its antibiotic power and its healing action by oxygenation of the tissues.

 All of these elements can be sterilized by conventional means and can therefore be used during a surgical intervention.

 We can consider sterilizing only the unscrewable tip when total sanitation is not absolutely necessary.

The first advantage of the invention is its effectiveness, which is based on a triple action
The first action of this device is a mechanical action of detergent and powerful washing.

 Thanks to the energy of the propellant gas, micro-droplets of liquid will be able to penetrate everywhere, including in the bone or tissue crevices performing their work of washing and detersion of devitalized or infected tissues.

 The second action resides in the nature of the propellant, oxygen.

 Indeed, the proper antibiotic power of oxygen is no longer to be demonstrated on anaerobic germs, moreover the oxygenation of contaminated or infected tissues stimulates their defenses and especially promotes the budding of sluggish wounds, losses of the substance , bedsores.

 The third action is the specific antibiotic or antiseptic activity of the product used, and whose action is favored by vaporization under pressure allowing it to be introduced into the intimacy of the injured tissues.

 The second advantage of the device is its ease of use in hospitals or private clinics since all treatment rooms, all operating room rooms, all patient rooms are equipped with oxygen wall plugs.

Ease of use in city practice (doctor's or nurse's office), since the socket also fits on an oxygen cylinder or in ambulatory practice (nursing home care) with a briefcase containing the device and a mini oxygen cylinder
The third advantage of the device is the saving of time and resources (compresses, washing syringes, antiseptic products, etc.) to perform cleaning or detergent work in optimal conditions of ease, cleanliness and 'asseptic.

 The fourth and not least important interest is the painless nature of cleaning and detersion.

 The best field of application for the device is certainly orthopedic surgery.

 In trauma: the usefulness of the device is immediately obvious for cleaning and paring contused and contaminated wounds in the emergency room or in the operating room (particularly in emergency hand surgery). It is also valuable in the treatment of open fractures or joint wounds.

 In regulated surgery: the device is especially useful in infections whether acute or chronic, whether they affect the soft parts (phlegmons, abscess, tendon sheath infections, etc.) or the bones and joints (osteitis , arthritis, resumption or cleaning of septic prosthesis) knowing that a special lance can be screwed on the device, allowing to penetrate inside 7a diaphysis.

 It can also be used at the end of a long and difficult intervention (therefore at high risk of infection) to clean and wash the operating wound before closing.

 In daily care: it can be used at the patient's bed by the nursing staff, to clean dirty or torpid wounds, to stimulate the budding of the losses of the substances and to accelerate the directed healing.

 The device is for example very useful for "pin care" of external fixators, especially in case of infection.

 At the border of orthopedics it is also very useful in the detersion and cleaning of burns (especially in case of secondary infection) and in the daily treatment of bedsores, both for the ease of cleaning bedsores, but also to accelerate healing thanks to the oxygenation of the tissues. Finally, it must be an excellent aid in the treatment of gas gangrene.

 In dermatology it can be used to treat oozing lesions, to strip crusty lesions, to treat certain torpid lesions such as varicose ulcers.

Device for spraying an antibiotic or antiseptic solution or the like, for medical or paramedical use, for cleaning wounds or tissues, characterized in that it comprises  - an antistatic hose (16) provided with a connection socket to a source of pressurized gas used in medical applications,  - a unscrewable bottle (9), containing the product to be sprayed.  - an ergonomic handle (2) forming a trigger and allowing the gas pressure and therefore the detergent power to be adjusted precisely and at will.  - a lance of variable length terminated by a nozzle (15) for spraying. 2. Device according to claim 1 characterized in that the outlet is an oxygen connection outlet. 3. Device according to any one of claims 1 to 2 characterized in that it comprises a protective screen (7). 4. Device according to one of claims 1 to 3 characterized in that the end piece (15) is removable.
