- on attribue une désignation spécifique à chaque combinaison d'encre ainsi caractérisée par au moins certains des éléments de la réponse spectrale et on mémorise cette désignation sous la forme d'une information codifiée,
- on attribue à chaque support, d'une part, l'une des combinaisons d'encre déterminées et, d'autre part, sous sa forme codifiée, la désignation de cette combinaison et on mémorise chaque attribution,
- lors de la phase de marquage, on appose sur chaque support au moins l'un des marquages distinctifs que constituent, d'une part, l'une des combinaisons déterminées d'encres et, d'autre part, notamment sous forme codée, la désignation correspondant à cette combinaison,
- lors de la phase de contrôle de l'authenticité du marquage d'un support, selon les étapes précitées
