Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of manufacture of self-breaking fencing attachments. According to the invention, the attachments are made by moulding ABS (styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer modified with butadiene rubber) without stoving and with a moisture content by weight lying between 1 and 5%.

Description

The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a self-breaking trellising fastener.

A number of fasteners or staples are known which are intended to hold the trellising wires which are stretched between sets of stems to support, particularly in spring, the fruiting branches of the vines. For example, in patent FR-2 647 633, a fastener in the general shape of a rectangular plate is described comprising two slots or the like, the width of which is sufficient to each accommodate a trellising wire; according to the invention described in this latter patent, the fastener is made of a fragile plastic material and is provided with breaking leads connecting said slots and its edges, so that it can be broken very easily when the trellising has to be removed.

However, the fact remains that most of the fasteners thus placed between two trellising wires do not break spontaneously, which is a major drawback in terms of profitability since it is indeed necessary to manually practice these operations of removing the fasteners. In addition, it has never been imagined so far to be able to ensure that the trellis fasteners, of shape and geometry varying with the nature of the vineyard, with the climate or with the cultivation habits, can be degrade and break spontaneously after an a priori calculable time, which, for the ordinary person skilled in the art, appears to be as many problems to be solved as there are staple models.

The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a method for manufacturing a trellis fastener, the deterioration of which does not depend solely on its geometry, but mainly on the nature of the material used and its thickness, so that 'it degrades and breaks after an approximately calculated time, thus freeing the two trellising wires which it had the effect of keeping close together. In this regard, the process according to the invention consists in that the fasteners are manufactured by molding unabsorbed styreneacrylonitrile copolymer of styreneacrylonitrile modified with butadiene rubber having a moisture content by weight of between 1 and 5%. In a perfectly unexpected way for the ordinary person skilled in the art whose habit is to completely oven the ABS before its molding, the fasteners obtained by this process are very brittle and break spontaneously under the effect of climatic variations (sunshine, rainfall).

It will also be observed that after their manufacture, and before installing them in the vines, it is advisable to protect the fasteners from humidity and solar radiation, for example by storing them in an airtight and opaque container.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the thickness of the fasteners is controlled so that, on average, the threshold beyond which they break, when a force is applied between the two slots where the trellising wires are notched , or divided by at least a factor of 2 after an approximately calculable time according to the average sunshine data and the average humidity of the vineyard in the period considered, the thickness of the vegetation (and therefore the shade) as well as the planting (on which the vigor of the vines and the average weight of the fruiting branches depend).

By a systematic approach according to the previous process, it was thus possible to highlight that, in the climatic environment which the zones of European cultures know, it was advisable to carry out fastenings out of unboiled ABS of a thickness ranging between 1,4 and 2 millimeters, preferably 1.7 millimeters, so that, after four months, the above conditions are met: thus, whether it is from a substantially rectangular trellis fastener with overall dimensions equal to 31 x 17 mm2 , or from a smaller fastener with overall dimensions equal to 19 x 15 mm2, we measured, with a dynamometer whose measurement points were placed in the two slots of the fasteners, a breaking threshold having varied in average in the period considered, from 100 N to 30 N for the largest attachment, and from 70 N to 30 N for the smallest attachment. As very generally, the fruiting branches grow alou rdissent as one approaches the harvest, there comes a time when, whatever the type of vines and the type of trellising used (wires stretched between stakes or between metal stakes), the ties connecting two wires give way under tension which has become too great with regard to their mechanical characteristics deliberately degraded by the choice of a material such as unboiled ABS.

The present invention is of course not limited by the description which has just been given, but on the contrary extends to any process other than molding, in particular by injection, providing for the use of unboiled RABS for the production of trellis attachments; in particular, the manufacture of fasteners by cutting from a large ABS sheet, or any similar technique, would not depart from the scope of the invention.
