Abstract

The invention relates to a method for producing decorative trompe-l'oeil patterns of creases and folds. It consists in using a support which can be creased and folded, which can take paint (dye) and which can be stretched during drying. The support is creased or folded (10, 11). Paint is sprayed over the relief obtained (12). Once the paint has dried, the support is turned over, wetted, laid (pressed) flat and its perimeter is glued onto a board with gummed adhesive paper (13). As it dries, the support becomes taut and thus all traces of creases or folds are removed. Its painted surface faithfully reproduces the trompe-l'oeil pattern of the creases and folds (10, 11). The method according to the invention is particularly intended for producing decorative trompe-l'oeil patterns which are to be reproduced on materials for decorating and embellishing objects.

Description

 your present invention relates to a process for producing decorative patterns in trompe-l'oeil of creases and folds intended to be reproduced on materials for the decoration and ornamentation of objects.

 The representation of such patterns usually requires, using traditional drawing and painting techniques, excessively long or less precise work.

 The production method according to the invention makes it possible to remedy these drawbacks. According to a first characteristic, it is on the crumpled or folded support in a regular or irregular manner that the final pattern is produced. The trompe-l'oeil arises directly from creases and folds. It is the deposit more or less dense according to its intensity and its angle of a jet of projection of liquid color resistant to water, on the folded support parts presented directly or indirectly to this projection, which will mark in an indelible way the folded or crumpled up of the support. This marking, once the support becomes flat again thanks to the tensioning operation that it has undergone, will materialize in a colorful way, trompe-l'oeil creases and folds.

 To do this the operator has on a clean and smooth board the support, visible unpainted surface, which he wets and smooths out using a wide brush, by way of non-limiting example, an upholstery brush.

The operator then sticks strips of gummed adhesive paper around the entire periphery of the support so that it adheres perfectly to the board. The operator then lets the support dry. As it dries, it will retract and stretch perfectly, thus eliminating all traces of wrinkling and folding.

- The fourth phase consists of removing the support from the board by cutting, at the edge of the adhesive strips and the support, all around the latter. On the painted side and while it is perfectly flat, the support reproduces the creases and folds in trompe-l'oeil.

FIG. 4 represents the same dry and perfectly flat support which represents the trompe-l'oeil pattern of creases and folds.

 With reference to these drawings, the decorative pattern produced is a direct result of creases and folds and the reliefs they cause (FIs.1 marks I and 2).

Irregular creases are made (FIG.I mark I) as well as precise folds (FIG. I mark 2). The sprayed color is deposited on the exposed reliefs (FIG. 2 item 3) while the opposite reliefs are protected and less colored (FIG, 2 item 4). The angle and the flow rate of the spraying can vary and thus give particular zones (FIG. 2 marks 5 and 6). The drying and the tensioning of the support are carried out after the operator has adhered the entire periphery of the support using strips of gummed adhesive paper (FIG..3 item?) On a clean and smooth board (FIG. 3 item 8).

When the drying has been completed, the operator takes off the support by making an incision at the edge of the strips of gummed adhesive paper and around the entire periphery of the support (? IG.3 item 9). The painted face of the perfectly flat support restores the decorative trompe-l'oeil pattern of creases and folds (FIG. 4 marks at 0 and 11).

 According to variants not shown, all possible combinations of colors combined with all possible variations of creases and folds and all possible combinations of supports can be executed.

 By way of nonlimiting example, the pattern represented in FIG. 4 was produced with acrylic color applied using a mouth sprayer on a modern glossy coated poster paper Maine side 100 grams per square meter of format 70XI00 cm.

 The process for producing these patterns according to the invention is particularly intended to represent a crumpled eye and creases intended to be reproduced on materials, for the decoration and ornamentation of objects.

 By way of nonlimiting example, for the furniture, packaging and advertising, clothing and footwear, toy, travel and leather goods, automobile for bodywork sectors and external accessories, saddlery, housewares, home, fabrics, clothing, architecture, jewelry and ornaments, office ticks.

Claims (6)

 I) Method for producing decorative trompe-ltoeil patterns of creases and folds-characterized in that it allows from a crumpled or folded support (FIG.I reference I and 2) and then colored by spraying (FIG .2) to obtain on this same stretched support which has again become flat (FIG. 3), a decorative trompe-l'oeil pattern of creases and folds (FIG. 45.  2) Method according to claim I characterized in that the decorative pattern is produced directly on the crumpled and folded support (FIG, 2),  3) Method according to claim I or claim 2. characterized in that the decorative pattern is a direct result of creases and folds of the support (FIG 4).  4) Method according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the despite of the sprayed color is determined by the relief of the crumpled and folded support (FIG.1 marks I and 2), the intensity (FIG. 2 item 5) and the spray angle FIG. 2 item 6).  5) Method according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the support is made flat during a humidification operation on the support followed by a drying operation which makes the support stretch (FIG.3).  6) Method according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the support which has become flat renders the decorative pattern of creases (FIG. 4 mark 10) and folds (FIG. 4 mark II) in trompe-l'oeil. .
