Abstract

The invention relates to a trap permitting selective elimination of flying insects in general and, more particularly, butterflies, flies, wasps and hornets. It is in the form of a container comprising: - two compartments: one located at the centre (1) and intended to receive products which attract the insects, and the other (2) located at the periphery and intended to receive products enabling them to be eliminated; - six access holes (3) located on the side wall, the shape and size of which holes are a function of the insects to be trapped; - a cover (4) and three gripping holes (5) located on the upper part. The entire container is transparent with the exception of the area located around the cover, which is opaque. This arrangement aims to attract light-seeking insects to the centre of the trap.

Description

 The present invention relates to the sector of devices intended for eliminating flying insects.

 It aims to achieve a trap of the type commonly called wasp trap "which allows as selective elimination as possible of flying insects in general and more particularly of butterflies, flies and midges, wasps and hornets.

 Traps of this type currently existing can be divided into two large families which differ overall only by the position of the access hole of the insects. For one of the families, this hole is located on the top of the rod, for the other, below. The other characteristics are identical and boil down to attracting insects into a container with a single compartment by means of a liquid in which they drown.

 These traps have three major drawbacks in common: first, the random nature of trapping since we catch much more than we can than what we want; then trapping limited to a few species, mainly common flies and wasps; finally the risk of catching useful insects, and it is not uncommon indeed to find bees in such traps.

The main reasons for these faults can be summarized as follows:

sion of the two attraction and elimination functions, which limits
considerably the range of usable products. Furthermore,
the initial smell of the products is quickly changed from
fact that the insects captured can be very diverse and that they
come to drown there. Hence a significant lack of selectivity.

- The fact that the access hole is located in the center (upper or
inferior) implies that the liquid used is confined
in the annular part of the traps. This configuration makes dif
good diffusion of odors to the outside, which li
considerably limit their range of action.

 The trap according to the invention aims to remedy these drawbacks and to allow trapping that is both much more selective and much more varied.

To obtain these results, the trap made comprises
- Two separate compartments for receiving separately
products intended respectively for attraction and elimination
insect nation. This configuration has the essential advantage
to allow the use of a very wide range of products.

It is thus possible to use attractive long-lasting products
life and we can proceed with the elimination of insects by other
very good than drowning, for example using insecti
contact cides.

- Access holes located laterally whose shape and di
mensions can be modulated to get the best
compromise, depending on the target insects, between: good spread
odors, limited access, the possibility offered or
no certain insects to come out to avoid saturation
of the trap following an interest-free trapping.

- Transparent, colored or opaque areas, the color and
the provision takes account of the specific characteristics of the in
targeted sects in order to better attract them to the center of the
trap.

 The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention.

 Figure 1 shows a section of the trap according to the invention.

Figures 2 and 3 show a section through the two types of access holes.

The following description, with reference to the appended drawings, gives a possible embodiment. The device thus produced is in the form of a container comprising
- A central compartment (1) intended to receive products at
pulling insects.

- An annular compartment (2) intended to receive products
to eliminate them.

- Six access holes (3), located on the side wall, the
shape and dimensions are a function of the insects to be trapped.

- A cover (4) located on the upper part as well as three
grip holes (5) for hanging the trap.

 There are two types of access holes. The first is represented by (6); it is a smooth entry hole particularly suitable for trapping butterflies. It allows most other insects to enter and exit without getting caught. The second type is represented by (7); it is a conical entry hole which prevents almost any possibility of coming out.

 The entire container is transparent, with the exception of the area around the lid, which is opaque. This arrangement aimed at attracting insects seeking light towards the center of the trap.

 The materials used are chosen from the range of traditional transparent products, the most representative of which is plexiglass. As for the realization, it presents no particular difficulty and can be carried out using existing technologies.

 The operation of this trap is very simple. When an attractive product is placed in the compartment (1), its odor spreads outside through the access holes to the slightest draft.

The attracted insects then enter the trap, and possibly leave it, according to the possibilities offered. Insects that get stuck always end up landing in the compartment (2) where the products are found to eliminate them.

 With regard to the products likely to be used, it is obvious that it is irrelevant to list them. The possibilities are extremely varied, both among natural substances and among synthetic products. Note, however, the necessity that they must remain chemically neutral with respect to the materials used to make the trap.

 The example of embodiment above is given as an indication and cannot be considered as limiting. In particular with regard to the forms adopted, which can be very diverse and be the subject of a design adapted to their outdoor use site, veranda, house, etc.

 The trap according to the invention is particularly intended for the fight against harmful flying insects in the fields of culture and breeding.

Device for trapping flying insects consisting of a container characterized in that it comprises two separate compartments: one (1) intended to receive products attracting insects, the other (2) intended to receive products allowing their elimination, as well as lateral access holes (3).  2. Device according to claim 1 characterized in that the shapes and dimensions of the access holes are a function of the insects to be trapped and can be entered either smooth (6) or conical (7).  3. Device according to claims 1 and 2 characterized in that the container has transparent, colored or opaque areas whose color and arrangement take into account the specific characteristics of the insects targeted in order to better attract them to the center of the device.
