Abstract

The invention relates to a cushion that enables persons suffering from coccygeal pain or any person suffering from backpain, haemorrhoids or sciatica to be able to remain seated without the coccyx resting on the seat. It consists of a cushion (1) consisting of, in combination, a foam body with a rectangular opening (3) in its middle so that the coccyx does not come into contact with either the seat or the cushion, and a firmer part consisting of a semi-rigid sole that comprises the same rectangular opening and prevents the edges of the opening (3) from closing under the pressure of the body and deforming the cushion, leading to contact between the seat or cushion and the coccyx; with a cover (2) of a nonflammable fabric around the foam body and comprising both along the entire rear and halfway along the sides a zip (4) so that the cover can be removed. The cushion according to the invention is particularly intended to allow disabled persons, but also those suffering from backpain, haemorrhoids or sciatica to rest in a sitting position.

Description

The present invention relates to a cushion intended to equip the seats of people suffering from the coccyx, hemorrhoidal pains and who must keep an extended sitting position, in particular people with physical disabilities but also all people suffering from lumbar or nerve pain sciatica.

Several cushions have already been designed to relieve high pressures that the buttocks support due to prolonged sitting.

 There are also known seat cushions consisting of flexible covers containing liquids or gels, foam cushions of different thicknesses and even cushions combining the combination of foam and liquids.

The main disadvantage of these cushions is that if the pressures are reduced, they necessarily persist since, in principle, the coccyx and the bony parts of the body continue to rest on the cushion whether or not the thickness of the latter has been reduced or not. 'it is preformed to the shape of the patient's buttocks.

In addition, whatever the technique used to obtain the reduction in pressure on the coccyx, due to the maintenance of contact with the cushion, the risks of concentration or increase in pressure with the sagging of the cushion after a long sitting period remain .

The objective and the main advantage of the present invention is to protect these parts of the body from any contact with the seat by maintaining them, throughout the duration of the sitting in a vacuum, by the design of a cutout and the development of a process allowing the reinforcement, without altering the conditions of comfort of the cushion.

Indeed, the second objective is to ensure the non-deformation of the cushion and a permanently comfortable seat.

These objectives are achieved by the removable relief and rest cushion, which can be placed on any seat, wheelchair or not, car seat, stadium seat, chair.

This cushion I represented in FIG. 1 comprises a removable waterproof cover (1) which may or may not be covered with an anti-decubitus fabric, containing a body (2) of rectangular parallelepiped shape in polyurethane foam in which a cutout is made. rectangular (3), intended to eliminate any contact of the coccyx with the seat, the maintenance of which is ensured by a semi-rigid sole (5), of the same shape and same dimension as the foam body also comprising the same cut in the middle , placed under the foam and which prevents the two edges of the cutout from closing under the pressure of the body.

The structure of this cushion is better illustrated in FIG. 2. It can be seen that it comprises a foam body which has a thickness which can vary from 7 to 10 cms depending on the type of cushion (7 cms for car, stadium and of chair and 10 cms for the armchair cushions), from a length of 21 cms to 35 cms (21 cms for the chair cushions, 30 cms for the armchair cushions and 35 cms for the car and stadium cushions) , and its width also varying from 30 cm to 46 cm depending on the type of cushion (30 cm for stadium cushions, 36 cm for chair cushions, 38 cm for car cushions and 46 cm for armchair cushions).

The cutout (3) extends over 12 to 17 cms depending on the type of cushion (12 cms for stadium, chair, car cushions and 17 cms for armchair cushions) in the middle of the cushion and has a length of 10 to 12 cm from front to back.

The body (2) of flexible polyurethane foam, has a degree of firmness such that the initial thickness of a sample of 10 × 10 × 38 cms compressed by a plate having a surface of 320 cms decreases by 25% under a load of between 65 and 80 Kgs and can still receive a greater weight or 5% additional retraction.

The thickness of the cellular material and its density can be changed.

The semi-rigid sole (5), in the shape of a rectangular parrallelepiped, is composed of celluoid and also has in its middle a rectangular cutout.

The cushion is a combination of the elasticity of the cell body and the semi-rigidity of the sole placed under the cell body, which allows the flexibility of the foam body on its surface without retraction towards the cut.

The need for a semi-hard part in the cushion to allow it to hold must not take precedence over the need for comfort because people must sit there for long hours.

A compromise must therefore be found between the soft part of the cushion formed by the foam body and the semi-rigid part formed by the sole.

The dimensions of the semi-rigid sole and the density chosen for the cell body can therefore be improved in this sense as well as the materials chosen for the preparation of the sole, and without thereby departing from the scope of the invention.

The cover (1), waterproof and flammable, which surrounds the foam body and the sole, carries on the rear part and on each of the sides at the rear and at mid-length a zipper allowing to remove this cover in order to change or clean it. The cover can be made of anti-square fabrics.

The rigidity of the assembly and its resistance to deformation, source of contact between the coccyx and the seat, results from the packaging of the foam body and the sole which is below, by a flexible fabric cover but which does not should not float but be adjusted to the exact dimensions of the body so that no elements that compose it move and deform the cushion.

Seat cushion for people suffering from the coccyx, lumbar or hemorrhoidal pains and more particularly for disabled people constituted by the combination of a foam body placed on a semi-rigid sole, a fitted cover surrounding it and the enclosing, removable and carrying on its rear and lateral part at mid-length on each side a zipper allowing to remove it, comprising in the middle a cutout allowing the coccyx not to rest on the cushion or the seat. 2. Seat cushion according to claim 1 characterized in that said body is made of a flexible polyurethane foam and having a degree of firmness such as the initial thickness of a sample of lOXîOX38 cms compressed on a plate having an area of 320 cms decreases by 25% under a load of between 65 and 80 kg and in which a rectangular cut is made in the middle. 3. Seat cushion according to claim 1 characterized in that said foam body is placed on a semi-rigid sole in the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped having a rectangular cut in the middle and composed of celloid, allowing the flexibility of the body to be maintained foam on its surface without shrinking towards the cut. 4. Seat cushion according to claim 1 characterized in that said foam body placed on said semi-rigid sole is inserted in a waterproof and flammable cover, adjusted to the dimensions of the body and of the sole and bearing on its rear part and on each of its sides, mid-length, a zipper.
