Description

The present invention relates to a podiatric orthosis
intended to be slipped into a sports shoe or, even
possibly in a city shoe.

More specifically, it is a sole having a
upper side and a lower side, an inner edge and
an outer edge, said sole defining an area
heel, a plantar area and a digital area.

When an athlete runs, he usually attacks the heel floor. He then passes from the taligrade position to the plantar position with a risk that at this stage, his foot will go "internally" or "externally". From the plantigrade position, it passes to the digitigrade position while coming to bear on the metatarsal heads. Because the first metatarsal head is very prominent compared to the others, it does not find its place in a conventional sole or shoe: it follows a sliding of the foot externally and a contraction of the toes, creating an imbalance.

The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks by providing an orthosis adapted to avoid any lateral drift at the foot.

This object is achieved in the sense that, in the orthosis according to the invention, the upper face of the sole has, on the one hand, at the limit between the heel area and the plantar area, a transverse protruding relief forming a bar anchor for the calcaneum of the user's foot and, on the other hand, in the digital zone, in the vicinity of the inner edge of the sole and in the immediate vicinity of the limit with the plantar zone, a depression adapted to accommodate the first metatarsal head of the user's foot.

The calcaneum's anchor bar stabilizes the foot in the longitudinal axis and prevents it from leaving internally or externally, during the transition from the taligrade position to the plantigrade position. For its part, the depression, by welcoming the first metatarsal head, allows the first ray to remain in the axis, when passing into the digitigrade position, thus bringing better stability to the foot.

In one embodiment of the invention, the underside of the sole consists of a shell of semi-rigid material.

amortissant.
As we know, during the ground attack by the
heel, harmful shocks rise from the ground and, to
remedy, the heel area of said shell has a
roughly circular recess and filled with a material
cushioning.

This recess may have a radius varying between 5 and
6.5 cm and it will be filled with an elastomeric, viscoelastic, polyurethane material, etc.

The cushioning pad will be inserted and molded into
the semi-rigid shell, without forming any extra thickness so
that it will not cause lateral instabilities.

The upper face of the sole according to the invention consists, as regards the digital zone, of the upper face of the semi-rigid shell and, as regards the plantar and heel zones, of a rigid material.

The upper side of the sole is
covered with absorbent material.

sous-astragalienne.
The sole according to the invention has, in addition,
advantageously, along the internal edge of the zone
plantar, a raised part forming a stop
subtalar.

figure 2,
The invention is described below in detail by
reference to the accompanying drawings in which
- Figure 1 shows the direction followed by the supports
successive feet of an athlete during the race,
- Figure 2 is a top view of the orthosis according
the invention,
- Figure 3 is a bottom view corresponding to the
figure 2,
FIG. 4 is an internal lateral view of the orthosis of FIGS. 2 and 3,
FIG. 5 is an external lateral view of this same orthosis,
- Figure 6 is a section taken along the line Vi-Vi in Figure 2.

If we first examine Figure 1, the arrow F indicates the direction of successive presses of the user's foot, whose skeleton is depicted. First of all, the contact with the ground is made, in 1, at the level of the external side of the heel (taligrade position), then, in 2, at a substantially median level of the sole of the foot (plantigrade position), and finally, in 3, where the foot rests on the first metatarsal head near the internal edge of the sole (digitigrade position !.

In 4 and 5 are respectively shown the anchor bar of the calcaneus and the depression of reception of the first metatarsal head which constitute the essential characteristics of the orthosis according to the invention.

As can be seen in FIGS. 2 to 6, the orthosis or sole has an upper face 6, a lower face 7, an internal edge 8 and an external edge 9.

The sole comprises, from right to left in the drawing, a heel area 1 #, a plantar zone il and a digital zone 12. At the junction between the heel zone 1 # and the plantar zone 11, the sole according to the invention comprises a transverse relief 4 projecting from the upper surface of the sole. This relief forms an anchor bar for the calcaneum. Furthermore, in the vicinity of the internal edge 8 and of the junction between the plantar zone 11 and the digital zone 12, the upper face of said digital zone has a depression 5 adapted to receive the first metatarsal head.

The sole further comprises, along the internal edge 8 of the plantar zone 11, a raised portion 13 forming a subtalar abutment.

As can be seen from FIG. 6, the underside of the sole consists of a shell of a first material 14 which has, in the heel area, a recess or a cutout 15 closed by a second material 16. The first material is semi-rigid and the second material has damping properties. As can be seen, the cushioning of damping material 16 does not form any additional thickness in the sole. The upper face of the sole is formed, in the digital area, by the upper face of the semi-rigid shell 14 and, in the plantar and heel areas, by a third material 17 which is rigid. The front part of the sole is therefore relatively flexible, while the central and rear parts are rigid. A layer of absorbent material 18 covers the upper face of the sole. This material can be made of neoprene foam, cross-linked foam or any other material that can help improve the kinetic energy of the moving subject.

As can be seen, the use of the cushioning material 16 is limited, according to the invention, to the heel area and as an underlay. Therefore, it does not absorb kinetic energy as do the shock absorbing materials applied to the entire surface of the sole.

The orthosis according to the invention is suitable for preventing and treating certain pathologies, such as tendinitis, fractures of the fatigue, sprains, etc. frequent in athletes, these problems having a common cause, namely the instability of the foot in the shoe, which the invention remedies.
