Abstract

The container is characterised in that it is composed on the one hand of a stable base 10 made from a durable material capable of withstanding mechanical loads and having at least one passage, or cavity, and, on the other hand, at least one disposable removable cup 20 made from a thin material, the base 10-cup 20 assembly being thus able, through the combination of their individual characteristics, to constitute an entire whole, in this case an ashtray. The cup 20 is capable of being folded partly, after use, over its contents: ash, cigarette buts, etc. to confine them therein with a view to disposing of the whole thing.

Description

CONTAINING IN TWO PARTS OF WHICH A DISPOSABLE
Many containers are intended to receive dirty products and must therefore be cleaned after use.

 To avoid the disadvantages of cleaning, disposable containers have been produced, which are used only once and which are disposed of after their first use.

 From a strictly economic point of view, it is obvious that such disposable containers must be as cheap as possible and the low cost price implies the use of raw materials in small quantities and of little value: plastic cups , paper plates etc.

 However, this solution is not entirely satisfactory in all cases of possible application. Thus, for example, the lightness sought by economy has the consequence of depriving the container of rigidity and stability. These two qualities can only be obtained together by giving the container a large mass, which precisely, by hypothesis, we want to eliminate.

 When the container is intended to be handled or subjected to certain constraints, one quickly encounters difficulties which, to date, are insurmountable.

 This is the case, for example, ashtrays which are intended to collect the ash, the used matches, the ends of cigarettes or cigars. This "content" is extremely light and in a very economical form, a disposable ashtray in stamped metal sheet, is necessarily small and very flat to make it insensitive to accidental knocks because these would have the certain consequence of projecting into it. air and spread the ashes and ends of cigarettes. It is therefore not possible to economically make a bulky, deep and stable ashtray in disposable form.

 But ashtrays are also decorative objects because they are used in a living environment which, without exceptions, must be pleasant.

 However, ashtrays are not simple receptacles similar to wastepaper baskets or trash cans because they are very specifically subjected to such severe constraints that they cannot be made from any material.

 By "any material we must understand both the noblest materials and the most ordinary materials. The former are currently unusable because of the damage they could undergo.

If it is possible to use silver, for example, it is however excluded from using a precious porcelain bowl, delicately decorated and of old invoice, as an ashtray. Likewise, ordinary plastics cannot be used, which could not only be damaged but even melt or ignite.

 There is therefore here a precise problem which, not being solved at the present time, deprives the creators and the manufacturers of a lot of freedom by obliging them to limit the choice of materials to those who can resist the high temperatures of embers and the simultaneous rubbing that the smoker provokes by "crushing" his cigarette or cigar.

 Another problem is that of certain products, in particular food products, which are packaged in containers which must be very efficient but which must nevertheless be as economical as possible. For this reason, the performance conditions are limited to packaging, preservation, transport, storage and, possibly, reheating of the content.

Until now, it is not known, at a reasonable price, to make such containers suitable for being used in addition for the direct consumption of the content.

 The present invention solves all these problems.

 To this end, the subject of the invention is a container characterized in that it is composed on the one hand of a stable base made of durable material capable of withstanding mechanical forces and having at least one passage and, on the other hand, at least one removable disposable cup of thin material, the base-cup assembly being thus able, by the combination of their individual characteristics, to constitute a complete whole.

 Referring to the drawing, it can be seen that a container in accordance with the invention comprises two separate elements which complement each other to form an assembly.

 One of the elements is a stable base 10. Here, it is made of a durable material, having a large mass and having a central passage 11 which here constitutes a cavity with a bottom 1. The base 10 has an edge 13 and notches radials 14 used to support a cigarette, a cigar or a cigarillo, as is well known per se, in order to constitute an ashtray. By its mass, the base 10 is stable and is adapted to withstand the mechanical forces usually suffered by ashtrays: thrust, pressure, etc.

 The other element is a cup 20 made of a thin material but adapted to withstand the surface forces usually suffered by ashtrays: friction, high temperatures, flame, this cup 20 being intended to be placed in the passage, or cavity, ll as the arrows F1 evoke it, in as intimate contact as possible by their respectively convex and concave surfaces.

 Thus, when the cup 20 is placed in the cavity 11 of the base 10, it protects the latter against surface attack while the base 10, thanks to its mass, provides the cup 20 with the stability it is not in isolation.

 We can then choose the base 1 without taking into account the specific constraints of the ashtrays. It can be a pre-existing object and can be a precious bowl, dish, decorated plate, etc. Naturally, when the cup 20 is in place, the surface of the cavity 7: is hidden but it is sufficient to put it in place only when there is one or more smokers and then remove it to find the original appearance intact.

 These provisions are favorable to actions carried out against smoking since it is possible to use objects which are not suggestive of the action of smoking and therefore not inciting but which can nevertheless be used when necessary.

 The base 10 can also be made of a material completely incompatible with the function of ashtray, in particular a synthetic material sensitive to temperature and even more so to embers and flames. It is then thus possible to manufacture very inexpensive bases 10 with or without elements specific to ashtrays such as the notches 14.

 The invention therefore applies to two very different cases: either the base 10 pre-exists, or it is specially manufactured. In the first case, provision must be made for adaptability of the interchangeable cups 20, whereas in the second case it is possible to obtain a practically perfect fitting.

 In Figure 2, we see a diagram illustrating the instability of a cup according to the invention used alone. It is observed first of all that the cup 20 is, all other things being equal, much deeper than the existing light ashtrays, obtained by stamping a thin sheet. Generally, these are often less deep than the diameter of a cigarette and barely have a cavity. They can collect ash and one or two pieces of cigarette, after which they are full "and are either disposed of with the waste they carry, or cleaned because they are reusable. These ashtrays are extremely light and inexpensive but given they are much wider than they are tall, they have sufficient stability for their job: serve once or a few times on a quick service restaurant table.

 The depth of the cup 20 (that is to say its height if we consider it from the outside; is such that if we practice the classic gesture of the smoker which consists in tapping a cigarette A against the rim 22 whose the cup 20 is provided, to detach the ash B from the cigarette A, it is almost inevitable to tip the cup 20 which has only a very low inertia, so that the light ashes and even the ends of the cigarette that 'It already contains will be projected out of the cup 20, as suggested by the arrows F2. In addition, there is a high probability that the cup 20 will fall to the side and spill the content which would not have been projected.

 In Figure ^, we see a diagram showing that we get a deep ashtray, suitable for use and stable if we associate the cup 20 to a support 10, even if it does not have a significant mass from when it is stable in itself and has means for holding the cup 20.

 We deliberately chose, for Figure 3, a support 10 very different from that of Figure 1 because it acquires stability by mass, the weight of the material of which it is made, while that of Figure 3 is stable by its shape and not its weight. It is made of metal wire (possibly covered or sheathed with a decorative and / or colored material, shaped to present segments having essentially three functions: a basic function, a support function for the cup 20 and a connection function between the base segments and the support segments.

 It can be seen that the wire is shaped to present segments 15 constituting a base by which the support 10 rests on a plane C such as a table. Other segments 16 rise from the segments 15 to segments 17 forming a sort of ring which extends in a plane parallel to that of the base.

 The inside diameter of the ring formed by the wires 17 is coordinated with that of the outside diameter of the cup 20 measured under its rim 22. Thus, when a cup 20 is engaged in the ring of the segments 17, it is strictly maintained, which has two effects: the cup 20 is stabilized and further rigidified, which makes the assembly 10-20 usable as an ashtray because there is no risk here of the accident illustrated in FIG. 2.

 The stabilization and stiffening of the cup 20 has the consequence, unexpected at first sight, that the cup 20 is made more solid as a whole and not only at the part of its periphery which is in contact with the segments 17. It is therefore superfluous to provide a bottom for the base 10 or support of the cup 20 on the rest plane C. It can be seen in FIG. 3 that there remains a distance x between the bottom of the cup 20 and the plane C and that the side walls of the cup 20 are practically in a vacuum. Lean that, it is possible to crush the embers of a cigarette against the walls or against the bottom of the cup t0 without puncturing the relatively thin material of which they are made.

 Another unexpected effect of the invention must be pointed out: the choice of a very thin metal sheet, the relatively very large depth of the cup 20 and its minimum contact with a support 10, make it possible to throw a piece of cigarette which has not been extinguished in the cup 20 without necessarily having to crush its embers because the high temperature of the embers is communicated by conduction to the cup 20 and the latter thanks to its large specific surface dissipates this temperature so quickly that the embers go out alone in very little time. This quickly neutralizes the smoke from poorly extinguished cigarette ends, increasing safety and comfort for people around.

 So that the cup 20 is immobilized at best in the base 10 when the passage 11 has a bottom 12, it is possible to give the convex part of the cup 20 dimensions and or a shape that, in combination with the concave part of the base 10 , cause a jamming or even suction cup effect when the cup 20 is pushed into the base 10.

 In Figure 1, it is noted that the cup 20 has no outer edge. It is therefore intended to leave free the edge 13 of the base 10. During its installation, one can pass the finger against its concave surface to apply it carefully against the surface of the passage II. Its removal can, then, prove to be difficult and runs the risk of a tear and this with all the more probability that we will have more often and more energetically pressed on its surface because this can cause a kind of sticking. .

 To facilitate withdrawal, it is then possible to provide an internal bead 21 under which the fingers, by the nails, find a fulcrum for exerting a traction suitable for extracting the cup 20 from the cavity ll.

 With this structure, the top of the cup 20 must be located just below the level of the notches 14, as shown in FIG. 4, in order to be able to place a cigarette A- in the notches 14 without risking moving the cup 20 and being assured that in the event of the cigarette A or its ash B falling only, the collection will take place inside the cup 20.

 When the cups 20 are intended for pre-existing bases 10 of all kinds, they must be able to be individually adapted as well as possible to: the shapes and dimensions of these bases. But it would be unrealistic to imagine that one can find a material which is able to satisfy both the requirements of its use as an ashtray and the needs of plasticity, deformability and elasticity of its adaptation, which is necessarily random.

 It is then necessary to provide several calibers, chosen empirically according to the dimensions most frequently encountered in practice.

 For this use, it has been found that a good solution for constituting the cup 20 consists in using aluminum foil which is fairly easy to shape by giving the final wall a large number of annoyed folds 2 and 24, as shown schematically in Figure 5.

It to be covered, one can easily, by hand, engage the cup 20 and shape its wall by causing the opening more or less marked with a more or less large number of folds variously located with respect to said cavity 11.

 Note that if the cup 20 is used without undoing the folds, it has superimposed layers giving extra thicknesses conducive to its resistance. Naturally, as a precaution, the nominal thickness e of the aluminum foil must be chosen according to its possible use in a single layer.

 This structure is particularly favorable to the constitution of cups 20 in accordance with the invention, because it makes it possible to form relatively deep volumes from a metal sheet which, by nature, is non-plastic.

 When starting from a planar material (sheet, plate, blank, etc.) it is impossible, for reasons of geometry, to obtain a cup 20 in volume without distributing the excess material. One solution is that of the multiple plies shown in FIG. 5. Another solution is shown in FIG. 6. It consists in forming ribs 25 whose depth p and / or width 1 are increasing from the bottom to the top of the edges of the cup 20 (Figures 6 and 10) and this all the more marked as the walls of said cup 20 are more divergent but, of course, the values of p and 1 also depend on the degree of elasticity of the material of departure, the value of the thickness e, the manufacturing methods used and the shapes of the cup 20.

 The cup 20 can be made by cold or hot stamping, with or without ribs 25, independently of the necessities arising from the choice of a starting material presented in a plane.

 The presence of ribs 25 can be useful not only to increase the rigidity of the cup 20 but also to give it "nerve". Thanks to this, a spring effect is obtained which allows both better retention of the cup 20 in the base 10 and easier extraction.

 But, of course, we can adopt any other solution such as stamping for example. One can also choose multilayer laminate complexes of all kinds.

After use, when you want to "empty the ashtray", that is to say throw the ashes, matches, pieces of cigarettes and other waste placed in the cup 20, you remove it from the base 10 and fold it back -above its content D, as shown schematically in Figure 7, as crumpled up a sheet of paper to make a dumpling. Particularly marked favorable effects are obtained simultaneously - the waste is tightly confined and does not

It is understood that the invention leads to the elimination of a washing station, which results in an economy clearly compensating for the consumption of cups 20.

 As the cups 20 are disposable, that is to say disposed of at the same time as the waste D which they contain, it is necessary to have a stock of new cups 20 ready to use. To make this storage easy, it is possible to adopt flared shapes allowing the cups 20 to be nested one inside the other, as is known per se for cups, as shown schematically in FIG. 8.

 A stack of cups 20 can be placed in a dispenser or a display stand for their removal from the unit as and when required.

 To facilitate the folding of the cup 20 in order to wrap the content D and to confine it, each cup 20 can be associated with a cover. It may be, in particular, a holding part 26 obtained either in one piece with the cup 20 proper or fixed to it during the manufacturing process (Figure 9).

 The cover 26 can be folded laterally and under the cup 20 so as to take up no space during storage (as in FIG. 8, for example) and during use, that is to say when the cup 20 is in place in the corresponding base 10. The cover 26 is unmasked only when the content D is wrapped, then this cover 26 is folded down according to the arrow F3 over the upper opening of the more or less full cup 20 and the whole is compacted to obtain a dumpling like the one in Figure 7.

 Instead of a simple cover 26 clearly differentiated, one can also provide that the entire periphery of the cup 20 includes an extension in a skirt (not shown) which is placed e: <térleuremen against lil proper wall of the cup 20 during the 'use and that is deployed when wrapping the content D, this extension to be raised and then folded over this content D.

 It is also possible to provide independent covers that the user has at will on the cup 20 and also uses for the containment of the contents without wrinkling of the cup 20.

 A holding, attached or independent cover as well as a skirt extension has the advantage of increasing the surface available for wrapping the contents and making the manipulations which are the responsibility of the user more practical, more comfortable.

 As indicated above, the invention concerns both existing objects and bases 10 specially designed and manufactured.

 In FIG. 10, an example of a stamped metal cup 20 is seen, for example from an aluminum foil, of shapes and dimensions coordinated with those of a given base 10, which includes a peripheral rim 27 and stamped notches 28 corresponding to those 13 of the edge 12 of said base 10.

 In the figure it can be seen that here, of course, the adaptation of the cup 20 in the cavity of the base 10 is almost automatic and it suffices for the user to place the cup 20, and possibly smooth it out. finger, to obtain perfect covering of the base 10, covering which is, in this case, ensuring excellent contact between the convex surface of the cup 20 and the concave surface of the cavity of the base 10.

 To facilitate the extraction of the cup 20 from the base 10, an external bead 29 can be provided serving to support the fingers of the user to allow traction. Such means favoring the removal of 13 cup 20 are all the more necessary as the adaptation of the cup 20 in the base 10 is more precise and intimate because it promotes jamming, blocking of one in the other.

 To ensure the immobilization of the cup 20 in the base 10, it may suffice, as said above, to manually conform the cup 20 in the base 10 because this necessarily has the effect of an intimate association of these two elements promoting their connection and this is even more marked when the cup 20 is intended for a base 10 specially designed for it.

 Whether or not the cup 20 is intended for a base 10 designed to receive it, it may prove useful to provide means for temporarily securing them to one another, in particular to prevent relative movement between them.

 These means can be provided on the base 10 or on the cup 20.

 It may be, for example, lugs integral with the periphery of the cup 20 and having to be supported only outside the base 10. This variant is all the more effective as the base 10 has an outer rim under which the legs can easily hang on.

 I1 can also be elements forming part of the base 10: reliefs and / or hollows against which the periphery of the cup 20 is deformed.

 One can also provide an adhesive with temporary effect on all or part of the outer surface of the cups 20. By "adhesive" should be understood any product having a retention effect of the cup 20 in the base 10 and as the time during which this desired effect can be quite short, we can be satisfied with a product which is not an adhesive in the physical sense of the term: a simple humidity can be enough, or an extremely thin film of an ad hoc compound. Of course, the cups 20 can also be manufactured with a complex, the front face of which is made of a non-slip material in order to cooperate with the base 10 while preventing their relative sliding.

 When we adopt the variant according to which the cup 20 has a bead 29, it is good that this bead does not exist at the edge of the notches 28. First, this facilitates manufacture and then, this makes the notches 28 less stronger than the rest of the rim 27 comprising the bead 29. However, this is very advantageous when crumpling the cup 20 as shown in FIG. 7 because the notches 28 yield more quickly, bend and quickly cause the passages to be closed. between the inside and the outside of the cup 20.

 In Figure 12, we see a cover 30 obtained independently of the cup with which it is intended to be associated. This cover 30 has a bottom 31 and a circular peripheral wall 32 terminated by an external bead 33. Thus, the cover 30 has a concave shape, in the manner of certain already known covers, often used for closing cans of paint for example .

 (This formaldehyde has the advantage of ensuring very good resistance in the opening of the container to be closed. For paint cans, the primary quality sought after is sealing, while here the materials being less rigid, the desired effect is that of the mechanical retention of the cover on the cup.

 Of course, the bead 33 is optional. ri can be provided either outside the wall 32 but inside or be completely absent.

 Several covers 30 can be stored by being nested one inside the other, in the same way as that which is represented in FIG. 8.

 In FIG. 13, there is seen a cup 40 designed to receive the cover 30 of FIG. 12.

 It is of the same type as those of FIGS. 10 and 11 and comprises a bottom 41 as well as a peripheral wall 42 surrounded by a flange 43 and provided with notches 44.

 The use of such a cup 40 will not be described because it is the same as that which has already been explained above. It should nevertheless be specified that if the cover 30 is, as is the case, intended to be applied with relative precision to the cup 40, the latter must not have been too deformed beforehand, which supposes that it is designed for the base in front of it.

 When the cup 40 must be eliminated, a cover 30 is placed on its mouth, as shown in FIG. 15. There is no need here to overwrite the assembly in the manner shown in FIG. 7 since the cover 30 closes the cup 40 and prevents the content from falling. By observing FIG. 15, it is noted that in order to perform its function, the cover 30 must close not only the opening proper of the cup 40 but also the passage of the notches 44. This is why the useful depth P of the wall 32 measured between the underside of the bead 33 and the outer face of the bottom 31 must be at least equal to the height H of the cup 40 measured between its top and the lowest part of the notches 44. Thus, it is ensured that waste even very small, like ash for example, will not be able to escape when the cover 30 is correctly inserted into the cup 40.

 As mentioned above, we can group covers 30 together by fitting them into each other, as in Figure 8. We can also group a cover 30 and a cup 40 as shown in Figure 13 14. The differences in interior and exterior diameters respectively are negligible because the material used is necessarily very fine and substantially deformable.

However, as is well known per se, the cups 40 and the covers 30 can be given a slightly frustoconical shape.

 To make possible the use of the cup-lid assembly of FIG. 14 and of a base, one must decide on the advantage or on the contrary the disadvantage of the bead 33. If one wishes to ensure contact the As intimate as possible between the cup 40 and the cavity of the base, priority must be given to this arrangement over the ease which the bead 33 provides for handling the cover 30.

 Referring now to Figure 16, we see a base 50 made from a single bent and shaped metal wire. This base 50 is therefore of the type already mentioned with reference to FIG. 3.

 It includes "volutes" holding together but comprising three sets of segments to ensure the three main functions of this base: base, support and connection.

 The base 50 comprises a base formed by a central part 51 and two peripheral extensions in corolla 52. The central part 51 is of real use here only for making it possible to constitute the whole base 50 with a single length of wire. The corollas 52 are connected to the central part by radial segments 53 and provide the base 50 with stability all the greater as they extend over a larger diameter.

 For each volute, the support intended to be placed under the edge 27 of a cup 20 is formed by an arc 54 and by substantially vertical segments 55 coming from the radial segments 53 and connected to the arcs proper 54 by arms 56 whose length is less than the width of the edge 27 of the corresponding cup 20, the latter having to rest both on the arcs 54 and on the arms 56.

 The angle formed by the segments of the central part 51 with the segments 55 gives the latter an elasticity which allows them to flex towards the periphery and, therefore, to be constantly recalled towards the center.

 The segments 55 are separated diametrically by a distance very slightly less than the outside diameter of the cup 20 so that the positioning of the latter requires a slight separation of the segments 55. Thanks to the elastic stress of the segments 55, the cup 20 is pinched and therefore subject to the base 50. The forces exerted on its periphery no longer have the disastrous consequences illustrated in FIG. 2 and the cup 20-base 50 assembly is perfectly stable.

 We see that here as with the embodiment of Figure 3, the base plays a role of stiffening, tension and stabilization of the cup 20 not by its mass but by its shapes.

 The application of the invention to ashtrays allows an interesting variant for public places, waiting rooms or passageways, namely the production of fixed ashtrays, placed along walls and partitions. This variant will be described with reference to FIGS. 17 and 18.

 The important advantage of the invention for this application lies in the fact that the user no longer has to empty the contents of a box with the help of a knife, a spoon or other utensil and then , that after consumption, there is no trough to clean: the empty cup 20 is discarded and only a quick wiping puts the base 90 in perfect clean condition since it has not been soiled. If it has been soiled on its outer sides, it remains much easier to clean than a trough with a bottom directly placed in contact with food G.

 With this application, special care must be taken to prevent the cup from having a relative movement with the base 90. For this, we can use the means mentioned above but we can just as well give to the cups 20 and to the passages 11 -72- 91 complementary polygonal or cross-relief contours.

 The cups 20 can be provided with at least one interior partition to compartmentalize them in order to package products which should not be mixed.

In Figure 22, we see a cup or "hexagonal tray 20, intended for a base having a wise pitch of corresponding section and provided with two partitions 20- and 20b defining three compartments to receive different products. If, as is known per se,
The closure seal is applied both to the peripheral rim and to the partitions, the compartments are individually sealed and the various packaged products cannot mix during handling of the container: packaging, transport, storage, etc.

 For example, for animals that are transported while traveling, one can provide a compartment for food and a compartment for a liquid: water or milk.

 Of course, the invention can also be applied for the packaging of food products intended for humans: rations, meal trays, cooked or simple dishes, etc. In this case, the bases 90, far from evoking an unflattering trough, could have a more attractive shape. The ease of cleaning the bases makes them particularly suitable for their use on the move, camping, vacations, etc.

 By way of example, olives, peanuts and other small foods which are served at aperitif time or which are presented in bars and restaurants can be packaged in cups or trays in accordance with the invention. . These cups or full trays are then placed in stable bases for the presentation and consumption of their content.

 It is also possible, whatever the application envisaged, to provide several passages or cavities for the same base.

 It should be noted that when the base according to the invention is produced in annular form, that is to say without bottom, it is unusable threshold, which deprives it of any interest for a thief, unlike the current ashtrays which are often carried away by unscrupulous people.
