Abstract

A switch (10), operated by opening the driver's door of a vehicle, energises a bistable relay (4) to close one pair of contacts (T). These maintain an earth return for a contactor (11) linked to the vehicle's throttle pedal. When the pedal is next depressed, a second bistable relay (1) is energised so that a pair of its contacts interrupt either the fuel pump or ignition circuits of the vehicle. Any attempt to drive off made by a thief is thus thwarted. The vehicle owner has a four-button coder which transmits a signal to release (16) the system by repositioning the relays (14,15). A monostable timer circuit (12) may be included to provide a brief time interval within which the relays will not set, thus allowing for door opening and immediate reclosing in the usual way.
